Please confirm this scenario: the phone is outside Verizon's network. The phone is on Wi-Fi. The phone uses the Verizon Messenger+ app.
Someone else sends a text (SMS) message to the phone.
Does the phone get the text?

You've got it right, richardchaven. If you're using Verizon Messages, aka Message+, you can even have your phone set to airplane mode while connected to WiFi and receive your messages through the application. I highly recommend turning airplane mode on during your cruise if you were planning to rely solely on the ship's WiFi and do not want to use one of the Verizon Wireless options at www.vzw.com/tripplanner in order to avoid cruise ship and international charges.
