What is the HUM device and why is verizon a better direction to take for the "connected car" market?

I don't know that Verizon is a "better direction to take" - it's one of the options. Research, compare, and go with what works for you. Me? I don't see a need at this point for another app, and device, to tell me how my car is running.For me, that's just TMI. I take it in for servicing on schedule, deal with flat tires and broken windshields as they happen, and it starts when I turn the key and gets me where I need to go....
