Why does my signal drop from 4-5 bars to 2 bars when I move from outside to inside of my house? I have an IPhone 6 and my wife has an iPhone 5 and we are continually dropping calls inside of my house. I have been a loyal Verizon customer for the last 16-18 years and I need help or I will be changing service providers very soon . My daughter in law had the same problem with ATT and they provided her with a mini tower for inside her home . I currently have 5 lines with Verizon . Please help !
Depending on the structure of your home and the frequency of the cellular signal, the outer walls can significantly degrade signal strength. The solution for you is easy, not as much so for your wife.
The iPhone 6 is wifi calling capable. Make sure you have the latest iOS update. Then in Settings / Cellular / Cellular Data Options / Enable LTE - Have that set to Voice & Data. Now go to Settings / Phone and switch Wi-Fi Calling to on. You will need to enter your home address (this is for 911 calls). Now when you are in a low signal area, like your home, your phone will switch to Wi-Fi Calling and you will see Verizon Wi-Fi where Verizon usually is. This will route your calls over wifi but otherwise work exactly like before. It is better in most cases than a "mini tower"
Your wife's phone, the iPhone 5, is not compatible with the new wifi calling. Getting a "mini-tower" will cost you about $250. It may be better to consider getting her up to an iPhone SE which does support the wifi calling for $399.
You shoudn't be having issues with 2 bars inside. I get 2-3 bars outside & barely 1 bar inside with zero dropped calls.(CDMA)
You will either need a booster or to look into Wi-Fi calling options as Weth suggested unless you move into an Android phone.
Unfortunately iPhones are not known for good reception with a marginal signal.
