G3 SIM card issue

My G3 was notifying me that there is No SIM found. At one point it said the SIM was not readable. I went through the troubleshooting steps and the problem remained. Once again, I went through this with the VzW representative over the phone. I took it to a VzW store and they replaced the SIM. After 24 hours I now have the same problem. I'm wondering if it is the phone and if there is a solution that anyone may know of.

I am having the exact same issue. Verizon replaced SIM card - worked for 2 days and now the "No SIM Found" message is back. I also went through all the troubleshooting steps. The issues (for me) started after the 3-3-17 4BA update.

I'm also seeing the 'no sim card' - I tracked mine down to an after effect of the Update to 4BA Firmware.

Settings>About Phone>Software Info> Software Version... Mine is VS9854BA.

I can see the affect on my antenna's (Wifi and mobile). The representative I spoke with obviously had no idea what this was. They need a software patch to remedy this issue - The thing is my phone was working great and I was out of contract by a few months - Why did I HAVE to accept this update???????????

I eventually went to a Verizon store and they couldn't get it to work even after installing a new SIM card. I ended up having to buy a new phone. Now it seems the update was the problem and that really[Removed] me off. When I asked about reversing the update, the Verizon rep just shrugged his shoulders and said there was nothing they could do. If you ask me, that is borderline criminal!

I ended up buying a new Samsung. I'm not sure if it was LG fault or Verizon's fault. I'm starting to think it is Verizon, but now I have a perfectly good phone that no longer functions and I'm out hundreds of dollars for a new phone. What a SCAM!

I too am experiencing difficulty with the recent software update from March 2017. Suddenly my phone reports a "Sim card is not readable." error, as well as draining my battery exceptionally fast. I have made no modifications, the phone is not damaged, and worked extremely well prior to the update.

Please advise as soon as possible. I would hate to have to leave VZW after 16 years because of no customer service and buggy software updates. Especially since my contract is up and I can choose any new carrier I prefer...

Why does Verizon "Support" keep telling people you want us to have working devices and then ask us what troubleshooting steps we've done? I for one have rebooted the phone. took the sim card out and replaced it and rebooted again. Then went to the Verizon store and a Verizon tech replaced the SIM card (and charged me for it) and it still doesn't work. They said they had no idea how to fix it. At this point Verizon knows exactly what the problem is and how to fix it, but you won't. Why? I think it is because people like me that don't have time to waste, need a phone. Tell us how to fix the phones please! My new S7 is not as nice as my G3 was and I want my G3 to work!

Amen, @sculpin59! I think Verizon is trying to force us off of the older phones so we have to purchase new ones. Seems like a clever strategy-- force an update on people that bricks their phones and then make them have to purchase new devices.

I have done all suggested fixes. Reseated the SIM Card, wiped the cache, factory reset (which is such a pain to restore everything.) And it worked for almost a whole day and then stopped again with the same error. This is all due to the latest March software update. The online community is abuzz with how it has bricked or ruined their G3s. Almost like we're being FORCED into new phones. But I am not accusing anyone...

Please advise. Make sure your "technical team" knows that they screwed over their customers.

I am having the same issue. My phone upgraded itself (I don't remember agreeing to any prompts) to VS9854BA and a day later starting having SIM card related issues including "No SIM card installed", "SIM card not readable", "SIM card not Verizon". Went to Verizon store 2 days ago and they replaced the SIM card and still received the message. They shook their head and said must be a hardware issue. After seeing multiple forums all reporting the same issue I have a hard time believing its not software related. Today I tried factory resetting the phone, and still cannot read the SIM card. I would like Verizon Wireless Customer Support to contact me about this, this is unacceptable. You can see in My Receipts where the SIM card was replaced at the VZW store. I have been a customer since March 2009 and have 4 lines on my account. If this issue is not addressed and remedied with a working phone I will be looking at another carrier.

Maybe I wasn't clear. I followed the steps VERIZON Chat representative gave me and then he recommended I take it to the Verizon store and have them install a new SIM card. The Verizon store representative tried several things (with no success) before installing a new SIM card. He then installed the new SIM card and it appeared to work for about one minute then started giving us the same message again. Can't read SIM or No SIM installed, etc. I believe this is now a known issue to Verizon and that you know what the problem is and how to fix it. All I am asking is that you tell us how to do that. And instead of asking us what we have done (because we are not familiar with your terminology and procedures), just give us the steps to follow. Most of us don't have hours to spend on line with you guys chasing dead ends, so a concise list of steps to follow would be great for allowing us to make the corrective actions at our convenience. As for me, I already have the new SIM card, so I wont need one of those.

I have TWO of these phones. When this happened to the first one, I did everything suggested by other users and what Verizon required. Even went to the Verizon store, which was no short trip, and played that game. The Verizon people in the store literally told us that they know it's going on and have no intent to fix it. The guy, under breath, apologized and stated the update creates an issue with the antennas. They know it will force people to buy new phones. We had no choice and changed out the first phone. Unfortunately, an update pushed to my second phone and it's now bricked too. If I don't have an update pushed to my phone that resolved the issue before the weekend it's over, I'll likely look at another carrier. Been with Verizon a long time, but this is unacceptable.

The last thing we want is to see you leave our family. I have researched this concern further and from the information we have gathered, the pin's in the SIM socket can be bent down causing issues with connecting to the SIM card. This would result in the message you are receiving. When did you first purchase your device? Do you have our extended warranty or Total Mobile Protection?

I am also having this same issue, my sim card pins are fine, did a factory reset, switched sims, all the above. I can almost a sure you this is from the last update. Phone was fine until then. No I do not have total protection coverage.

Yesterday, I started having the same problem only 1 month after the phone was paid off!!!!!!!!! We've tried all of the troubleshooting recommendations and will be going to our Verizon store for a new card just for grins and giggles. We've been customers since Verizon took over Alltel and I think they need to undo that last update that we were forced to get. If a new card will not fix this issue, I will not purchase a new phone nor continue to use Verizon. The new phone will be with Sprint, Walmart, T-Mobile......... a TracFone......... but it won't be with Verizon!!!!!! Seems like a way to make you purchase a new phone.

I'm now having No Sim Card found as well, it started the first time I restarted my phone after the update.

This is my 3rd LG G3 that has had this issue. The 1st phone got it after an update 12 months after I bought it. It would come and go, originally I thought there was some rhyme or reason to it, but after this many phones it seems completely random. Since I was just outside the warranty period I tried to get it working for weeks. Eventually I gave in and paid the deductible on Asurion for a refurbished one. The 2nd phone worked for maybe 6 months before getting Sim Card Not found errors. Asurion replaced it for free with a third LG G3. Now after the most recent update I'm back to not having a working phone.

Since I've had 3 different phones on 3 different software updates, and I've researched this issue extensively I think I can add a little insight.

When you restart your phone, or turn your phone off and on for any reason, it's always a gamble. Sometimes it'll turn back on and find the sim no problem, other times you can restart 50+ times in a row and none of them will work. Sometimes you try 100 times it doesn't work, then you wake up the next day and the first time you turn it on it starts up perfect.
Once your phone is working it generally stays working until you turn it off/let the battery die/restart....but eventually what's happened on all of my phones is after a few days/weeks of never letting it turn off, you will take an incoming phone call, and during the call the phone will suddenly shut down and then you get NO SIM CARD FOUND again.
It creates a situation where you can't let your battery die, or risk not having a phone.
It also means you can't swap batteries without risking it, which takes away the best feature of the G3
Getting a new sim card, sometimes has fixed it for a day for me on the 1st phone but no the 2nd phone and I haven't tried it on the 3rd phone. Given the random nature of the restart and reconnecting to the sim/network, there's really no way to test if it worked, unless you actually stopped ever having it happen again which it seems has never happened to anyone on the internet who's had the problem.
It has nothing to do with the SIM Card slot pins, attempting to bend them back or adding tape or paper or other "fixes" I've seen online are all worthless. Since the pins aren't the issue, all you are doing it risking damage to the pins. The fact that sometimes it seems to work as a fix, is just because its random every time you restart, so by nature sometimes it will appear it worked.
It's 100% in my opinion a software bug, possibly specific to Verizon, since every shred of evidence I've ever found about the issue is from Verizon customers. All 3 phones I've had it happen to had an update in the days preceding the problem. All 3 phones would work on and off, WITHOUT opening the back or messing with the sim card in any way.
The first 2 phones eventually got to a point where no matter how many times you restarted it never found the sim, or at least not in the 100's of restarts I was willing to attempt.

I'm having the same problem with two phones in my household and VZW is not helping. Mine started just over a week ago on my phone that's just a little over 2 yrs. old. Tried 2 new SIM cards, a replacement lg g3 from Verizon and even my daughter tried the replacement phone with the same No SIM card phone and no service. Phones are in great shape with no physical wear or damage, card reader is perfect. Spoke with someone who works in IT and they think it's a firmware/software issue. Verizon needs to get with LG and come up with a fix. This is a terrible way to try and sell more overpriced phones. The equipment works excellent as far as a computer with Wi-Fi but no connection for phone, texting and data. Come on Verizon, step up and confess there's a problem, don't tell me there's only one other occurrence as you did when I called in and get us a fix for this problem.

2 days ago I started receiving sim card not found or sim card not readable. I looked and my software was updated in May and just now I'm having the same problem as everyone else. Funny thing though my husband & I have the same phone. I'm out of contract he is not and he's not having this problem. Could this update be an update to push out of contact peps to get into a new contract? If that's the case that's illegal.

this just happened to me too. I am furious. this is clearly a software problem. the tragedy is that verizon needs to be connected to your phone through their cell network to update software. so, no connection, no update. dead.

Has anyone had any success in finding a solution to this? My wife's G3 got the same error in the March/April timeframe and I didn't have time to chase it down so I moved her to an old phone until recently when I could back up her data and do the required Factory Reset. It has been getting on the network intermittently since then but is now mostly failing again with the error.

If anyone has any solutions to this I would appreciate your insights. If people have just left Verizon as a result I certainly understand (I am extremely upset at this the more I read about how widespread the issue is). There is no way I am buying her a new phone through Verizon at this point since I have lost so much trust in them (and I have been a customer for 13 years!!)

Story:

Okay so... I am going to share this as best as I can without trying to point fingers of foul play. So WHOEVER IS READING THIS, PLEASE DO NOT ASSUME THAT VERIZON OR GOOGLE IS GUILTY OF FOUL PLAY, Also note that this may not work for everyone.

I started to expierence with the sim card being undetected and detected on or close to my one year anniversary with Verizon. My battery was draining and my phone started overheating all of a sudden.

When I turned my phone off and back on, the sim card would either be detected or change its message to "This is not a Verizon sim card."

Explaination:

After reading countless posts and articles, with people having "slightly" different situations than mine, I could not rightfully assume that it was a hardware failure. I even read that someone replaced the sim tray and sim card, which should have fixed the issue.

I knew it would not be the logic board because the entire phone would more than likely not work.

Analyses:

So, I enabled developer mode on my phone by clicking Build Number numerous times, went back to the system settings menu, went into developer options, went to the running services. Opened up Android System Service and seen the SimContactsService was having issues loading.

The SimContactsService deals with the authentication communications between the towers and your device.

Solution:

Given that I have done MANY factory resets and there was no success. I started looking at apps that may need to use the Sim Card to authenticate the identity of the device.

NOTE: Do a LG BackUp to your SD Card to save anything on your device!

To make a longer story shorter... I factory reset my LG G3 by...

1: Shutting down my phone normally.

2: Holding the volume down button and power button at the same time until the LG logo popped up.

3: On the LG logo screen, quickly release the volume down button and power button and then re press them and hold them down until the LG recovery screen options appear.

4: Use the volume keys to navigate the options and the power button to select.

5: Do a factory reset.

6: Once the factory reset is complete, setup the phone and SKIP setting up verizon cloud and google.

7: Power down the device and repeat steps 2 through 4.

8: In the menu, select "Wipe Cache" (May need to do this a few times.

9: NOW! (Verizon, I am sorry if this sounds bad but it could be an issue with android system communications and your apps.) Switch your default messenger to "Messenger" and force stop (disable if possible) Messages+ (Also known as Verizon Messages). Also Force stop My Verizon and any other Verizon apps.

10: Setup your google account and update all the apps on your phone. (After the apps update, MAKE SURE you go back and force stop the Verizon apps.)

11: Repeat steps 1 through 4 and wipe the cache again.

12: Your phone should be working.

13: If you have a LG backup, go ahead and restore, just make sure you force stop and disable those two apps.

14: I got Verizon cloud to work okay on my phone, so I could resync all my contacts.

It has now been approximtely 48 hours since my last issue and my phone was having this issue every few hours to minutes.

Message to Verizon...

Verizon, you need to investigate and FIX THIS PROBLEM before people think that you are trying to pull the same garbage as Apple. I strongly suggest you take this to the top, IMMEDIATELY.

Message to consumer...

Note: If your phone is still doing this, make sure to look in the running services in the developer options (right when the phone starts up) and look to see if the Android System service (SimContactsService) is still turning on and off. That means there is something in your phone trying to make your device authenticate with Verizon or other telephony services.

I also recommend ordering a new sim card replacement and reapeating steps 1-4 with the wipe cache option. Note: Wipe Cache option in that menu wipes the cache on the hardware memory. The cache on the hardware memory is used to help quickly authenticate you when needed, and helps the Android system work quicker, and many other things.
