Should I wait until after my contract is up?

My contract ends in 21 days. I just paid my last bill ahead of time which is due 2 days before my contract ends. I have been happy with Verizon but will be moving to a different service. I have a smartphone (iPhone SE). If I move my number now, will I be charged an Early Termination Fee? Will it be $60?

Will there be any additional charges (besides the ETF?) since I have already paid the bill due two days before my contract end date if I move my number now?

You should port your number out AFTER the contract term completion date and shortly before the next billing cycle date that is after the contract term date. The bill itself is never due on the billing cycle date so you should review your account/bill to verify the exact billing cycle dates. You will not be prorated for the billing cycle when you cancel/port the number so it is best to get "your money's worth" by waiting as close as possible to the end of the billing cycle.

wait till contract over ....no proration credit on billing ....mean you still pay for that whole month bill as now.

Normally, your bill DUE date is 5 days before the closing date of your billing cycle.

For example, my billing cycle ends on the 15th of the month. The bill is DUE on the 10th of the following month.

With this in mind and the fact your contract ends 2 days AFTER your bill is DUE, I would guess your billing cycle ends a couple days after your bill is due. Personally, I would wait until AFTER your contract ends before cancelling service, i.e. if your contract ends on the 20th then cancel service on the 21st. The only additional charges you would likely have would be for data overages in your current month. Of course, you should check to confirm when your contract end date and your billing cycle date falls.

If your contract end within the next month and you cancel service before that time, your ETF would be $120 for a smartphone and $60 for a basic phone. This does not necessarily reflect the phone which is CURRENTLY on your line, but the phone which was purchased to place you in a contract. If you purchase a smartphone to enter into a contract and then activate a basic phone on your line, you would still be responsible for a smartphone ETF.

The information provided by the community is correct. If you are still within contract and port your number, you will be charged an early termination fee. That fee is based on your contract terms. We would have to review the account to provide you with accurate information about the fee. If you already paid the current bill that is due, this would have covered your current bill cycle. If you start a new bill cycle before your contract ends, this will generate a new bill. You will get a final bill once the service is disconnected which will include your final monthly charges and any fee's.
