Purpose of Preorder?

I'm really curious what the purpose of waking up at 2:00 am CST to preorder 3 iPhone 7's only to have it delayed while others can walk in the store on launch day and come out with a new one? My order was confirmed at 2:30 and has been on the "processing" state ever since. Expected ship date of 9/28. I'm very dissatisfied. Verizon had no problem charging me $60 for some bogus upgrade fee but fails at fulfilling a preorder on launch day. Ridiculous.

I preordered my 256gb jet black iPhone 7 plus and Fedex just delivered it an hour ago. I'm sure people are waiting hours outside of the Apple store trying to get it right now.

I ordered a black 128GB, black 32gb and a rose gold 32gb. When I hit submit on my order, stated delivery date was 9/16. Confirmation came in at 2:30 am CST and stated 9/28. Verizon's website wasn't working for me (and many others) until well after 2:00 am. Def my worst preorder experience.

Looks like your in the same state as me, I ordered 2 phones the 7+ 128g in black and the 7 128g in flat black. My order showed a delivery date of 9/16 for the plus and 10/5 for the flat black 7. After arguing with verizon yesterday my theory was correct. Since I ordered both phones at the same time and not separately they will only ship them out together when the flat black one comes available. I spoke to sales associate the night before pre-orders and asked if ordering both at the same time was ok and he said certainly. Very frustrated considering I sold my 6 to someone in hopes my new 7+ would be here today!

No one can walk into a Verizon store here in Metro Atlanta and get a plus. But you can walk into the Apple store to get a plus. I am not understanding the whole pre-order thing either. Last year the big unicorn was the Rose Gold. I pre-ordered that and got it on time even though the delivery date wasn't the launch date. This year it is the plus in Jet Black. I hope to get mine sometime this month.

Nowhere does it say Verizon, Apple, or any other retailer will guarantee you a preorder on launch day. It states that you are guaranteed an iPhone. The people waiting are taking a risk. Sometimes it pays of sometimes it doesn't. Right now everything I've read is that there are no plus' available for walkins. As for the time of preorder its just luck whether you are able to connect to the online store or not. Unfortunately, you were late. Its certainly not Verizon's fault for millions of other people trying to do the same exact thing at the same exact time. Just luck.

Connecting to an online store should NEVER be luck. Poor planning on someone's part is more to blame. Wish I could use that excuse for a lot of things. Oh, it didn't work? I guess you just aren't lucky. SMH.

I agree with you...I don't understand the pre order. Which I already did. Mine doesn't even show a date so I have no idea when I will get it, but people can walk into the store and get one. I think I will head over there and see if they have one. Customer service said they can delete your order if you get one. But to me, pre order should mean you get it first, not the other way around.

I preordered and I am getting both phones today, an iPhone 7 rose gold, and an iPhone 7 Plus matte black.

The benefit was I do not have to stand in line today, and even if I did I would not have been able to get the iPhone 7 Plus matte black anywhere from the reports. Additionally I was able to carefully read over the terms for the $650 refund and $400 refund for used 6 and 5 I am sending back. I only stood in line once and told myself I am never doing that again. Doorbell literally just rang - phones are here.

i preordered my jet black on 9/9 at like 9:30am. my shipping date is 10/12! i go on verizon.com today (9/17) and the jet black 7 will be delivered by 10/12 if you buy now. what is the point of ordering these things early if they past them out at a particular day? not quite fair. i thought preorders get their phones before everyone else? isnt that the point? apple and these phone companies cant get this right ever. you would think they would know how this was going to go down and make sure they delivered.

This launch was extremely fubarred. I ordered 2 iPhone 7s one being a 128+ MB and the other a 128 RG. The delivery date was originally 9/16 then 9/23 now a ship by date of 9/30. People that placed their order after me are receiving the same iPhone 7 model as me. What's the point to preordering if they don't ship in order?

I've had the new iPhone on launch day since the 4S. Just stating that this has been the worst preorder experience I've had. Between low stock (or whatever) and the website not working when it was supposed to. I'm using Apple next time for my preorder.

There are two things about the preorder that I'm really aggravated about: 1) I was online at 2:00 am CST sharp to preorder. I lost time because Verizon's site wouldn't let me get started. I finally was able to do the preorder using the iPad app. Losing those few minutes apparently cost me maybe a month on the shipping date. This was Verizon's fault, NOT mine. 2) All the way through the preorder process, the "deliver by" date was 10/5 for the 7+ 128 JB that I wanted. That's what it showed when I placed the order. That's what it showed on the confirmation email. That's what it showed on My Verizon for days after the order. I was ok with that date or I wouldn't have continued with the preorder. Then, after placing the order, clicking on the "Check Order Status" in the email showed a delivery by date of 11/2. Surprise!! To me it was a kind of "bait and switch." Web technology is advanced enough today that the date showing during the preorder process should have been accurate, and changing in real time. I'm NOT ok with the 11/2 ship date, but there's nothing I can do now except either cancel the order or hope it will ship sooner. I've always been happy with Verizon's service until now.

So what is Verizon Wireless actually DOING for this mess of delays? Basically all I EVER hear when I have questions or complaints is, "We're sorry." Ok, thats great and all, but that does jack crap for us, the customers. We pay all these fee's, accept all these agreements, are told if we order the shipment date would be the 16th. Then MAGICALLY that date turns to the 23rd, then again to the 28th, and finally I am told my phone may not come until well into October? If Verizon was honest, it would have said, "We're not a very dependable company, so, if you preorder this phone from us, you will have a definite possibility of NOT getting it on the 16th. We love to extend the truth in our benefit and will take all your money, so buyer beware." I think that would fit much much better for Verizon. I should have learned my lesson from dealing with you when I was supposed to receive my phones back after a HUGE ordeal with Verizon a few years ago. But no, you guys said shipment got lost but wouldn't pony out the $300 that I lost because of that. You can have the most loyal customer, who pays all their bills on time, who has been a customer for 10+ years, never missed a single payment, and you will still treat them like crap. The second somebody makes a mistake you charge fee's and hit them with everything you can to get their money. But when Verizon makes a mistake, you will drag it out as long as you can and will make it such a horrible headache, the person will just give up. Verizon is a HORRIBLE company, period! Look at BestBuy, they are offering everyone who preordered $100 off their next purchase at BestBuy to try and say sorry. They are actually reaching out to the customer and trying to make some sort of effort to apologize for the delays.

I can only imagine your anticipation on getting this new phone in your hands! I can see your point on the pre-order ship date compared to the ship date if you order the phone today. It can be very difficult to predict when the ship dates will be since the iPhone is in such high demand. As the pre-orders started to go through, perhaps this particular color & model didn’t sell as much as anticipated, so therefore that is factored into this finding.
