Last billing cycle we set the 50% and 75% alerts on one line that tends to use more data.
Two weeks later, that line decided to stream podcasts. They started under 50% usage and passed through 75% usage and got no alerts until 90% usage.
Probably because there were no more podcasts on that stream.
Of course I called to see why the alerts failed to notify the line and bill payer for the 50 and 75 percent marks. The explanation was that if data is continuously downloaded the Verizon system can't verify the data used.
Even though podcasts are broken up into files, the break in between did not provide enough time to calculate the data use.
Just so everyone is aware, this indicates that if you started a large download using your data, it is possible, though not likely, to use 100% or more of your data without being notified by Verizon. People with computer modems that use Verizon data need to be especially aware of this flaw.
If the file or podcast feed was large enough, you could rack up hundreds of dollars in overage fees without notification.
Be sure to give breaks to your data usage so Verizon can figure out if you crossed a threshold or not. They also said that you would only get the last notification not any of the middle ones to prevent over communicating.
This makes the throttled unlimited plans look good. Not that I am ready to go there yet. The lack of coverage is more of a deal killer.
