So my Son was complaining because he couldn't remember his password that he had on his iPhone5. He said he hadn't changed it and had locked the phone up 3x trying to remember it. Considering he is 14 and changes passwords weekly, we decided to do a factory reset. After reset was completed the phone restarted and on the configuration screen it says that the phone is managed by CPI Security Systems. It then stated that CPI Security Systems will automatically configure the iPhone. I was then prompted to enter a username and password to finish configuring the phone.
So after trying factory reset four times and receiving the same message we decided to call Verizon tech support. AFter going around and around with them they come to the conclusion that it was a software problem, that undoubtedly CPI encrypts their software. I called CPI Security Systems and talked with the tech guy and he said they don't encrypt any software that can't be wiped by Verizon. It is not their responsibility that Verizon sold a refurbished phone with their software still on it. The resolution that Verizon offered was to send it in and they will send another phone. Since it belongs to a 14 yr. old it has a cracked screen, plus it is still under contract. So i can buy insurance for $150 and file a claim or I can send it to APple to get a new screen put on it (est. $150 +) or they will be more than happy to offer me an upgrade (= more$).
MY whole deal is that we never would be in this situation if VErizon had done their job in the first place and cleaned the software and reset the phone before selling it refurbished. Kind of makes you wonder about privacy and security doesn't it? SO here we are stuck with a phone w/a cracked screen that is locked out by software from the previous owners and VErizon wants us to pay for their error. After being a Verizon customer for nearly 20 yrs you would think there would be an easier resolution. I guess customer loyalty don't mean anything anymore?
