Hello
i just started working at a new building and i was informed that the boos had a IT guy come in and put software on the computers. This software can tell if anyone in the building is using there personal cell phones and gives the phone owners full name and phone type. The guy showed it would work by telling the other workers that a different employee was down the hall and was on a phone call on her phone, he then gave her full name and cell phone type to them. When she came out of the hall she was asked if she had just been on her personal cell phone of which is a iPhone and she tried to play it off but then said yes she had been on a call in the bathroom down the hall. I understand we have a policy in the building that personal cell phones are to be in our lockers unless we are on a break. But is it really possible to get this info from a computer software? plus is it legal for the employer to have this kind of software invading our personal cell phone and possible exposing our data to others with out our ok? would this not be a type of cell phone tracking software? plus can that software be used in a public building like this, because if its tracking the use of all cell phones in the building the visitors to the building or none employees would be being tracked as well without there ok right?
i work in PA and I'm not sure of the laws for the use of this kind off software in a public building or if this kind of software even exits?
Thank You for any help with this question. if this is possible is there a way to block whatever software he is using? i keep way to much personal info on my cell phone to have his software possible making it vulnerable to his eyes or others that are tech savvy?
