Why are verizon refusing to take note 7s back?

I've walked into a store with it, been told to leave as the store might explode. Been told I'm getting a box but they don't know how or when. Twitter support tells me to take it back to the store. That didn't work. Nobody will confirm its off my account. Meanwhile it sits in my house waiting to blow up.
