iPhone 7 1x 3g LTE switching

My iPhone 7 keeps switching or sticking to 1x or 3G from LTE. When I put it in and out of Airplane mode it'll go to LTE and stay there awhile. I brought it to the Verizon store and went through the usual "Did you try this?" routine. I know they have to ask these question so I don't fuss about it. I have reset all network settings and reloaded as brand spanking new. Both with no luck. I was told it's not a Verizon problem and I need to wait until Apple releases a fix. This happens inside and outside. Speaking of switching.... I switched from AT&T to Verizon after being with AT&T since the first iPhone. Is anyone else having these issues with their iPhone or Android device in the Boise, Idaho area?

I'm having the exact same issues with my iPhone 7 Plus in the Denver, Fort Collins, CO Springs area... it routinely goes to 3G / 1X and I'm constantly having to switch airplane mode on/off to get LTE coverage back. Between the Verizon store and phone customer service I was told the same garbage... 'Reset Network Settings', turn phone off/on, let's try a new sim card, etc... then finally I'm being told it's Apple's issue and they need to issue an update for LTE connectivity issues. So frustrating because my previous iPhone 6S Plus never experienced these issues and I'm using the phone in the exact same locations.

Sad to say but it's nice to know I'm not alone. We'll have to keep hammering Verizon and Apple. I figure or rather hope that Verizon would not want this as I did not have this issue with AT&T.

I'm beginning to think it's a Verizon / Carrier Settings issue... reasoning is because I've talked with a few people using AT&T / Sprint in the same area's as me with the new iPhone 7 & 7 Plus and they are not experiencing any of the same issues....ugh!!

I agree with you, I'd hoped that I wouldn't have these issues with Verizon of all carriers... your right, all we can do is keep hammering Verizon & Apple to come out with some sort of fix or issue resolution!!

I know you rely on your phone just as I do. Let's go over a couple of steps to see if we can get your phone to work properly. Please follow these steps:

From the Home screen, navigate: Settings Settings icon > Cellular.

Tap the Cellular Data switch to turn on .
Tap Cellular Data Options.
Tap Enable LTE.
Tap Voice & Data to turn on or off.

Update me on your progress once you have tried this step.

This is a USER known issue and seems to be location based. Verizon nor Apple have made any official comments about the issue. Hopefullyefull a carrier update will be released soon.

I wish that were true, my wife and I did a little driving today - she has an iPhone 6S Plus and I have the 7 Plus. While my phone bounced between 3G / 1X / etc and had a horrible time trying to hold onto the signal, her's was completely fine and held nearly full cellular strength and full LTE all the time. So, I wish it was location based but based on real world samples its phone based from what I can tell and have seen/experienced...

I found that same "Fix" and am trying it now. I'll update after a few days of leaving just data on for LTE. I assume that is what you meant by the 4th step of "Tap Voice & Data to turn on or off"

Having the same issues.... was traveling from Northern Virginia to Charlottesville last night with my new iPhone 7.... on I-95 much of the way.... phone kept switching from LTE to 3G to 1x to No Service. My wife was with me and her iPhone SE had LTE all the way, just as I always do. I travel this route a lot for my work. BIG PROBLEM, and we need a fix ASAP.

Enabling LTE for data only looks to have helped with the issue but..... Now what do we do? I'd like to tear the band-aid fix off and have a real fix in place.

I have the same exact problem. I switched from att as well. It is frustrating to constantly lose connection. Go from 1x, 3G to LTE again. I had support open a case with Verizon Network team. I am hoping that they get to the bottom of it soon.

I have been having the same issues in NYC with my iPhone 7 and my wife's 7plus. I was DMing tech support on twitter and they said that apple and Verizon are aware of the issues. I did the same thing as all of you. Reset the network, remove and replace sim, restored phone to original state and even used it without a case for 12 hrs. Still had the same issues. Even lost service completely while driving on a major highway for about 6 miles.

My wife and I are both having the exact same issue. We are both using iPhone 7 Plus with 10.0.2 and carrier version 25.1

We live in New York City. I'm seeing the issue all over the city. Downtown Brooklyn last night where we'd normally have full bars of LTE we were on 1x.

We are coming from iPhone 6s and 6s Plus models. This was never an issue on those phones.

The 7 is just constantly being pushed down to 1x or 3G where we normally would always be connected LTE.

I thought we were getting the new advanced LTE?? Even when connected to LTE, I'm not seeing any kind of upgraded speed. Huge disappointment with Verizon right now.

Having the exact same problem...dropping back and forth between LTE, 3G, 1X and No Signal. GPS also dropping, although not every will notice this unless they constantly use a GPS enable app.

Same issue in Las Vegas with iphone 6. We have changed the sim card 3 times and not fixed. Went to apple and got a new phone, still not working. Went back to Verizon and upgraded to an iphone 6s and same problem. Only on my daughters line, our other tow lines with iphone 6's are just fine. We have tried every fix and still nothing.We are going today to see if changing her number will fix this, it has been almost two weeks now.

same thing this is upsetting! I have an iphone 6 for work and it has 4 bars and 4g LTE service my new I phone 7 is next to it and has 2 bars and 3G reception ! Don't make sense ! why does the new I phone 7 always go to 3G?

Same problem here. Upgraded 6s (with no issues) to iPhone 7 and immediately had problems with signal jumping from LTE to 1x 3g. I made multiple calls to Verizon: updated carrier settings, sent new signal to phone, replaced SIM card, iTunes restore on phone - nothing worked. Verizon advised me to replace the phone since I am in the 14 day return period. Replaced phone this past weekend and SAME PROBLEMS! Just called Apple and they advised me to drive to the nearest Apple Store to let them look at it. This is a brand new phone and it should work.

Please fix the network or give me my trade-in back!

Josephe_vzw you are reading the threads across the board and across the United States. It's seems to be something with either the phone or the network. I know that no one wants to point the finger at the other person but clearly this is a problem that should be brought to the attention of the higher ups. Like earlier post mention that we pay the most of any of the major carriers in cost and sorry to say, expect what we pay for. I never had a issue with my iPhone 6 regardless of iOS operating system and when putting my brand new iPhone 7 next to my wife's iphone 6 ( both on Verizon, both running the same ios system, just carrier was different (24.1 on 6, 25.1on 7) and both in identical otter box symmetry cases) the reception and signal is night and day. I know Verizon and apple are not prepared to swap out thousands of phones for this so there needs to be a happy medium. It's frustrating to have to look at a 849$ device and it says 1x/3G to only put it in airplane mode and back into cellular to pick up the right network antenna again. Please forward all these threads to apple and the heads of the technical DEPT and solve this issue.

I'm in Boston,MA and running iOS 10.0.2 on my iPhone 7 having the same problems most of you are reportin. Never had issues with my iPhone 6. It must be something wrong with Verizon's new advanced LTE

I am having the issue in NYC metro area to be exact. But have noticed it more in the 10303/10308/10312/10314 zip codes as well as jersey city / Bayonne / and on the lower east side of Manhattan 10013. Went to VZ store today and swapped my sim because the tech said that is the issue. I will try this for a few days and see. I will continue to monitor the thread to see if anyone else has seen an improvement.

There's only one way to get some real attention to this. Outside pressure and to get the word out. Instead of getting lame and unhelpful responses from all these T1 "support" people. Take the word to social media. Send tweets to Tim Cook, Apple, Verizon, and any/all media outlets you can find. Eventually the story will make the news and then MAYBE something will be done about it. Use the #antenagate2016 hash tag to get it trending.

Maybe be some external pressures will get the ball rolling. Samsung would be thrilled to know the iPhone is crap. New google phone coming out as well! Bet they would like the market share. So would AT&T and T-Mobile.

Verizon really needs to communicate with their customers. They MUST be aware that this is a fairly widespread issue. A little official communication goes a long way.

There may be hope. I'm not saying it's fixed, but I just updated to iOS 10.1 Beta 2, and my carrier settings are now 26.0. I noticed My LTE is now stable in areas where it has been switching to 3G. I was dropping calls when using VoLTE too. I turned VoLTE back on and made a few test calls with no issues. I've only been on 10.1 beta 2 a couple of hours now, so lets hope it sticks. :smileyhappy:

This issue only affects iPhone 7 users in certain areas of the country. The issue seems to be related to specific Verizon network configurations for certain areas of the country.

VoLTE and HD Voice is the same thing. Verizon, AT&T, and some others just call it HD Voice. Turn off and on by going to cellular setting and either choosing Voice or Data or Data only.

ok, i called apple they told me to rest the phone to factory settings by cleaning out the whole phone as a new factory set up, i did it , and also reset network settings then downloaded back my I Cloud back on phone. Still something phone goes to 3g ! the verizon store also changed out my a new SIM card, this is unacceptable!!! what is APPLE AND VERIZON gonna do about this? and do it fast to fix it!!!

dave427 - All those solutions are coming from low-level tech support. Restoring your phone is ridiculous as you've more than likes JUST done that when you got your new phone.

Changing the SIM is also a bit ridiculous unless you have a SIM from years ago. I don't kow about you, but my 7+ i bought from Apple came with a new Verizon SIM in it and the phone HAD to be activated with that sim in it.

This is a software issue - probably carrier software related and it seems to be affecting people in certain geographical areas. So certain users using this software on these towers are affected. At this point, we are at the mercy of Apple and/or Verizon giving us a software update.

For now, I can recommend that you turn off LTE voice. I did it a week ago and it did curb much of this behavior. To do that, got to Settings App -> Cellular -> Cellular Data Options -> Enable LTE -> and select "Data Only".

This will not allow your phone to access "HD Voice" as it is marketed. It is NOT an acceptable solution by any means, but it will at least hold you over until these 2 giant multibillion companies sort us out.

The lack of official communication about this issue is deplorable at this point. Both Apple and Verizon should really treat their customers better.

Just wanted to add my two cents. THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING! My wife and I will be driving down the road and she will have full LTE coverage 100% of the time on her 6s. On my 7 I will either have No Service, 1x, and sometimes 3G. Its not until I throw the phone into airplane mode and back out do I see LTE, and even then, I only have the LTE coverage for a min or so.

I am paying WAY too much money to have such horrible coverage, and being month to month, I am ready to dump verizon. They arent holding up to their reputation at this point.

Verizon Network and Apple are aware of the issue. A permanent resolution is being investigated. A temporary fix is to toggle the different network functions on the device (Airplane Mode, Voice/Data Roaming, HD Voice) on/off.

Having the exact same problem since I have had the phone. People say they call me and it never rang, dropping calls, spotty service. It goes to 3G to 1x to No Service constantly. My husband has 6 plus and no problems He will have LTE in same area that I will have No Service.

Using Waze is impossible because of constantly losing signal.

I also switched from AT&T on iPhone 6 to Verizon on iPhone 7. The Verizon signal on iPhone 7 is terrible.

Outside of my house and office, my phone is usually connected to 3G or 1x. Inside buildings, such as a mall, I have "no service". Considering I used to have LTE every where on AT&T, this is a tough thing to get used to.

I've gone through all the resetting and turning off this and that, but nothing has changed. I'm hoping this is an Apple s/w issue. Otherwise I'm stuck with a bad Verizon LTE network. I miss AT&T.

Hello! This thread seems to have faded but I am still having this issue. I have been on the phone with Verizon level 2 tech support multiple times as well as apple shpport 2x. I have had the issue since I purchased the iPhone 7 and it only affects my line. I have had 2 other Verizon phones alongside for independent testing and they keep LTE while mine goes to no service, 3G or 1x in an area with great service. Toggling airplane mode on and off restores LTE when the phone is stuck on 1x or 3G I have tried the following and spent countless hours dealing with support and resetting/restoring.

toggle "voice and data" to voice only

erase all content and settings / iCloud restore

restore iPhone using factory settings using iTunes and then restore backup using iTunes

is is anyone still having this issue or is there anything else I can do fix this? I am missing tons of work related calls and data communication - as well as burning my data allowance trying to troubleshoot in different areas constantly.

I am still having this problem. Verizon tried disconnecting my LTE service, then reactivating it. They even gave me a new iPhone 7 thinking it was a problem with the device. Nothing has worked.

Here is my problem that still happens daily. When I enter the parking garage at my office building, my service drops from LTE to 3G. When I leave my parking garage, the phone stays in 3G until I make a phone call. When I make the phone call, service changes from 3G to 1x, then the call disconnects. It's extremely frustrating.

After pulling out of the parking garage, I have tried turning airplane mode on and off, but the phone is still stuck in 3G. Even if that fix worked, I don't want to have to go through that process every day.

If it's helpful, the zip code where this is occurring is 77056, right in the middle of Houston.

Yes, restarting my phone will get it back to LTE. But that is not a fix, and it's extremely inconvenient. I pull in and out of my garage several times per day, so don't want to have to turn my phone on and off each time.

Thank you for clarifying that with us. You can also reset your network settings on your device to switch it back to 4G. This may be an issue with your SIM Card and device still being paired to a specific tower for the best signal possible. Once you leave the area, it is able to send stronger 4G signal to your device. Let us know if picking up a new SIM Card or doing a Network Reset can fix this issue.

I have had my iPhone 6 for over a year and mine has started showing 1x or 3G. I went to settings and mine was set to data only on enable lte so I changed it to voice & data. Now it shows lte. Will see for how long. Also recently I've noticed the little wheel spinning at the top like it's trying to download something but everything is closed. If I power my phone off and then back on it fixes it temporarily
