my data speeds have slowed dramatically since I have switched to the unlimited plan. Why is that?
My LTE data speed had slowed months before changing to the unlimited plan. My data speeds are so slow I can't check my e-mail. I was told by a sales rep that my iPhone 5s wasn't compatible with the new LTE service, so I bought a new iPhone 6se today and my data speeds are just as bad! I live, work and travel in St George Utah (84770), and my friends who live in the same area have similar phones and Verizon have far better LTE speeds than me. I'm very upset I pay so much money for absolutely the poorest service.
Having the best speeds possible is a must, BRIHES59. We would like to work on some troubleshooting with you to ensure you have great speeds. Have you attempted any troubleshooting steps on your new phone?

We pride ourselves in our network, so it's upsetting to learn you're having speed issues since switching. Let's get to the bottom of this.
What is your zip code? Does this happen all the time or specific times of the day?
EricaC _VZW
I switched to Unlimited plan just before leaving for pipeline job, my hotspot speeds before were 10-15Mbps down and 5-10Mbps up.
These are my speeds now-
I am assured that they are working to fix the issue as soon as possible, yet it seems to persist. I am sure you can imagine even the headache just to get here to type this. This is basically paying for unlimited internet to get no internet. If a tower is down then give us some [removed] satellite internet until it is fixed, it averages about the same [removed] speed as I am getting on your towers anyway at full 4g(10Mbps)

This is a speed test from today with 3 bars happens all the time zip code is 96150
Sent from my iPhone
We appreciate the zip code. It definitely was helpful. Let's dig deeper. If you don't mind me asking. How much data have you used this cycle?
AnthonyM_VZW
I've reset network setting numerous times.
I just started a new billing cycle on April 8th, since then there's been very little change in data speeds. Instead of .01Mbps, I'm getting about .50Mbps. I've only used 1.2G since the start of my new billing cycle.
Same here. Before 22GB
Same here. I detest the unlmited plan. Paying more for less data! Slowing to 3 g after 10 gig.
This was mine a few minutes ago.
Yes. Verizon won't agree that this is the issue, too many people with unlimited now and the band with they have isn't big enough.
Mine is also extremely slow. It was great for the first 45 days or so, then slowed to a crawl.
.63 up and maybe 1 down.
JUJU582010, we know how important it is to have access to LTE speeds. We want to make sure that you're having a stable and speedy connection. Based on these screenshots you've provided, it looks like you have your iPad connected to Wi-Fi. Can you tell us what type of device (mobile hotspot, jetpack, router, etc) it's connected to? Are the speeds this slow constantly?
So far this "unlimited" plan sucks. Why would a phone be allowed 22 gigs before being slowed down and a hotspot only 10? Not to mention that after 10 gigs the best speeds I can get on hotspot are .04 download and .11 upload, so basically useless for the rest of the month. I used to pay for the 40 gig shared plan, phones only used a gig or two and rest was hotspot but worked fine. I have 5 phones and a hotspot, how about giving me 22 gigs x5 plus 10 for hotspot as shared data? Maybe you can hire that "can you hear me now" guy but change the slogan to "I've never felt more limited until I signed up for the unlimited plan."
I am still on a shared plan and the speeds are just as bad.
Its the whole verizon network that has issues....not just the unlimited plans.
It just all happened to slow down when they put the unlimited plans in play for everyone to sign up on.
I am on a shared plan with my wife. Our data speeds are awful. We updated to unlimited and immediately noticed a change in speed. Went back to 8 gigs and no problem. Returned to unlimited and had immediate issues. Seriously considering finding another carrier for our phone/data needs. Don't appreciate be scammed by high costs for poor service.
jbaxtr, we want you to have the best plan for your needs. How much GB do you average monthly?

I have the same issue. I switched to the unlimited plan and it has been junk. Barely getting 0.90 down. I think they slow it down so we don't use as much data. Might be looking into another carrier that will give us money to switch. Paying over 200 a month for crappy service is not worth it.
I agree. Pretty much fed up with it. VZW is kinda becoming more costly than
the service is worth. Definitely exploring other providers.
Sam1980, we always want you to have the data that you need. Let's ensure that you are getting the speeds we would expect. How much data has the device used this bill cycle?
LorenB_VZW
2.39 gigs.

I'd like to point out also that my job takes me away from home and wi-fi internet for months at a time and rely on hotspot for internet. We got unlimited data plan to have unlimited data for this exact reason, not a measly 10gb cap before being bumped down to 3g with 1Mbps speeds if you're lucky. More like 100-300Kbps.
Verizon needs to seriously work on improving their unlimited services, OR offer services to people like me. Let me use unlimited hotspot data at 4g that wont be throttled for an additional whatever per month.
10gb is nothing, not even close to an acceptable cap on an unlimited plan. Maybe 1TB or something so people can't just go nuts.
Currently have 7.5 gig used. It's consistently slow from beginning to end of cycle never getting close to the 22 gig alotted data usage
Steve_Jep, it certainly sounds like you do a great deal of travel for work. I am saddened to hear that this option has not been what you were expecting. We certainly want these details to be known before making a change. Plan details for the hotspot are view able under number 9 at http://spr.ly/65888gzOj.
Sam1980, experiencing this everyday is truly not what we would hope for. Let's see what is happening. Are you using a cell phone or Jetpack device for this data? Have their been any recent updates to the device? Are others experiencing this slow speed at this location?
These speeds are on my phone and my wife's phone. I have a moto z play and she has a moto z force. Running speed tests at 4 out of 5 bars. Peak and non peak times.
Sam1980,
Thank you for that information. Can you run 3 speed tests on each device and post the results so we can see?
NicoleT_VZW
when our 4G is working the speeds are ok. The problem is that it just
stops, and then we cannot download or run speed tests at all.
On May 6, 2017 10:52 PM, "vzw_customer_support" <forums@verizonwireless.com>
Not sure how to post pics from the phone but I got .88 dwn 1.97 up , .92 dwn 2.01 up , .91 dwn 2.03 up. 4 out of 5 bars. I'm on the tower located in West Odessa,TX 8400 block of w 26th St 79763 if that helps.
Yours is fast compared to mine. Today my download speed was 0.03 and upload was 0.053 mbps....It's been like that for a couple days They say it's because I exceeded my 10Gig limit on my UNLIMITED PLAN (apparently they can say it's unlimited even though it has limitations- why don't they just say oh, we never lie almost, always ,everyday, sometimes....?) But c'mon this is ridiculous I had faster internet on a 1200 Baud dialup. I was lied to about the entire plan and each time they change things they say 'oh no one ever told you that" ...yeah they did...After over 20 years with Verizon I have pretty much decided enough is enough.
Thank you for that information. What steps have you taken to rectify the speeds? I do not want to ask you to do something that you have already done.

no your not paying more for less you are being [Removed]!! this unlimited plan is a big ripoff. I was told that i used my limit to the 4g and would be reduced to 3g. 10 g/bits is all you get, and that is throttled. do not go with the unlimited plan. i tried to change but was told that i had to wait til the end of my billing cycle.i will be changing to another carrier. VERIZON IS A RIPOFF!!!!!

I have the same issue here in St George, UT 84770 I live near the University and Interstate 15.
I opened a ticket and was told that all 3 towers in downtown St George are 3G towers not 4G. I get less than 1 mb download speeds its insane!!! I have a brand new S8. Feels like I bought a new sports car and I'm condemned to only go 10 miles per hour....I'll probably leave Verizon. For 2017 those speeds are just not acceptable. Makes no sense to me that a city of 88,000+ people with a University, High School, major interstate ( all less than a mile from where I live and work) and host to things like The Ironman, Senior World Games, etc that bring thousands of visitors each yr that Verizon would have the 3 towers covering the downtown area as the slowest most outdated, absolutely unbelievable. Everyone who is experiencing slow data speeds needs to call and complain and open a ticket otherwise nothing is going to change.
Before switching providers, check the fine print of the Unlimited Data plan being offered. Sprint, at&t and Cricket can also slow down data speeds after thresholds have been crossed. I'm not sure about T-Mobile. All will deprioritize when cell towers experience congestion.
Nowadays, seems like the only way to get unthrottled data is to go with a dedicated data plan that has a fixed cap.
yeah, not what I was told...and yes we found another provider
my data speeds are very slow as well and im not on an unlimited plan. I cant even break 3mps alot of the time. I dont know whats going on but they need to fix it or I will have to switch to something else
Outside of exceeding the soft cap on the Unlimited Data plan, there are two instances I can think of where Verizon Wireless would lower data speed.
. When a tower is congested.
. If a user exceeds their capped monthly allotment and subscribes to the option that allows the person to limp along at reduced speed with no overage penalty until the start of the next billing cycle.
This assumes that the slowdown isn't being caused by external factors such as a weak signal.
Sandy04-
Say it's not so, we don't want to see you go. I feel your need for speed and want to do everything we can to help. How long have you been experiencing slow speeds? What zip code are you experiencing the slow speeds in? Are other Verizon users in your area experiencing the same concern?
Same thing here. Had fast service before I switched to the unlimited plan. Now I have terrible speed. Need to find a different carrier because Verizon service isn't worth paying for any more.
ledford-
You're breaking our hearts. We don't want you to leave Verizon. I do understand how important it is to have service you can rely on though, let's turn things around. How long ago did you switch to the unlimited data plan? Are you experiencing slow speeds in just one zip code (if so, which) or everywhere you go? Are you using a smartphone or an internet device such as a jetpack?
It happened almost immediately when I switched to this unlimited plan. I was on the original unlimited data plan and switch to the new one. It is slow wherever I go. I leave at 2681 and it's slow, I work at 28613 and it is slow. I have a Droid Maxx 2 phone. I had awesome speed until I switch plans a few months ago. Terrible ever since.
We want to be sure your data is as fast as can be ledford. Let's work towards a resolution. I was not able to locate any alerts for issues in the area where you work. It appears there was a number left in the home zip code you provided. Can you provide us with your home zip code please? Also, what data speeds are you getting http://bit.ly/1ZDHbAp ?

Sorry for the zip mistake. it is 36861. My speeds are all over the place.
Downloads from 14 to 35 mbs. Uploads 4 to 17. The biggest problem is my
data stops working completely without warning, and this has been occurring
frequently. Also, it doesn't matter where I am. It happens at home (inside
and out), it happens when I am away from home as well. These issues have
happened ONLY when I have been subscribed to the "Unlimited" plan.
Thanks for the follow up,

Thank you for getting back to us. When your data completely stops working do you get an error message? How long does it last? A few minutes, an hour, days?
Ledford,
Thank you getting back to me. I see that you have done some troubleshooting steps with no improvement. This is certainly not what we want to see. I can see from the previous posts that this all started when you switched to the Unlimited plan and that the speed decrease was almost immediate. I want to look at your account. Absolutely. And thanks for helping me troubleshoot this issue.

Same here. Now under 1 mb
Same here, my network download speeds have dropped to around 1 mbps after changing to the Unlimited plan! I have talked to numerous friends and coworkers on Verizon who have had the same experience since switching. :smileysad:
I agree, I was with straight talk for 6 year prior to switching to verizon two monthes ago... their service is extremely slow and isn't worth the money I pay monthly. I will be switching back to straight talk. I recommend others to look into it as well, if not a different carrier

I'm in 60566. My speeds will wobble between 1.2 and 2.6Mbps down. From what I read from Verizon's information, LTE speeds should be between 5 and 12Mbps and, at times, bursting to as high as 50Mbps.
In all of my monitoring of this, I've NEVER even came close. Is this because, from my office (4th floor near a window), I only get 2 of the 5 bars/circles when it comes to signal strength? (My device is a brand new iPhone 7 Plus.) I just recently changed over to the unlimited plan.
Can someone from Verizon Support message me about the details? I'd like to know precisely why I'm not at least at the low end of the advertised LTE speed (e.g. 5Mbps). What are the advertised troubleshooting steps assuming this is not a network/tower issue?
Thanks.

Several factors will impact what your level of signal will be, buildings being on of the factors which impact signal strength the most. You say your office is near a window, but you are assuming the tower servicing your area is on the other side of that window instead of the other side of the building. If it is the latter, the signal would have to go thru the entire building before reaching your phone, not just the window.
Good luck getting someone from Verizon to give you a reasonable
explanation, or to provide a solution. They pretty much just brushed me
off. I will brush tjem off pretty soon by changing providers. Verizon is no
longer worth the hassle.
Jim
JOHLEW75, we always want to ensure you have the best signal possible. I welcome the opportunity to address your inquiry. You advised that you're experiencing this issue inside of your office. Do you also have concerns with your speeds while not in the office? I ask because different things can impact signal indoors which is why no cellular provider can guarantee indoor services. If the issue with the speeds is primarily confined within that location, it wouldn't be indicative of a network issue as those are much more widespread. It's likely related to an obstruction that isn't allowing the Radio Frequency (RF) signal to get to your device. Issues indoors can be related to terrain challenges, new construction, metal roofs, transformers along with a few other factors. For example, we are in a 12-story building occupying 7 of its floors. It consists of heavy masonry and metal construction. There is a tower on the roof as well as ground towers less than a quarter of a mile away in each direction. Because the RF signal isn't able to penetrate the structure even with 64 windows on each floor, we have boosters installed in the ceiling of each floor to assist with getting the signal into us. One thing that you can do with your device in lieu of having a booster is to utilize wifi if available. Since the wifi router would be located in the building, it would be better suited to getting signal to your device when RF signal isn't able to penetrate through it.

Had a 30gig plan...it worked great. "Unlimited" plan came out so we switched to it. After 10gig we could not access the internet unless we wanted to wait...it was dial up speed. Called to switch back to 30gig and Verizion "accidentally" forgot to put us back on our old plan for....2 MONTHS. 5-6 phone calls and over 3 hours on phone with customer service to straighten it out.
Now, back on a 30gig plan and now guess what??? Yep it's getting slower buy the day and even when we are in a 4G area it's slow on both phones.
Hello Verizon??? unlimited internet is a terrible idea since obviously your equipment can't handle it. So, stop with the unlimited [Removed] and go back to what worked.
Motor7,
Having slow speeds in never the experience we want you to have. We are truly sorry of the experience you have received with trying to make the plan change back to 30 GB. With moving to a non unlimited price plan your line of services should not be affected by their availability of speeds. We would like to review further regarding this matter. Can you please provide us with your zip code? Also, can you let us know if all of your lines are affected?
SylviaT_VZW
37881
Sylvia,
I appreciate the effort, but I have already talked to several Verizion techs and all said that dial up speed slow down after 10g use is not possible. Friends that live in the same area when the Unlimited plan was rolled out could even stream movies after 10g, but now cannot at all. To all of us on the receiving end the answer is obvious....too many people overloading the Verizion towers causing these slow downs.
So, not enough towers and existing Verizion equipment not designed to handle such a demand as Unlimited is the problem. I know you as an employee are not being told the whole story by those that designed Verizions internet systems.
We are quite rural here, the only other internet option to us is satellite which has a different set of problems(we also have HughesNet). I was happy with the 30g plan, even in our marginal cell coverage area it worked pretty darn good. Right now @ 0840 hrs I have 9.80mbps download & 1.24 up. Later today at peak hour I will run it again and post it for you....it has been as low as <1mbps.
0949 hrs today.....2.52 down, .46 up
1401 hrs.............1.34 down, .59 up
1924hrs..............1.11 down, .27 up
If Verizon thinks this is an acceptable mbps then they need to change their ad campaign just a tad.
My data speeds have been unacceptable for over a week now, 1.2 mbps download. I have the grandfathered unlimited data plan with a hotspot, definitely not worth the $150 per month I'm paying now. I hope that what I'm reading here is NOT true, the new unlimited data plan users have overburdened the LTE network? If it does not get resolved soon, I will be switching carriers for a less $$$ plan. Verizon wireless step up and fix the issue, I've been waiting a week for a resolution.
melman,
I think you will be waiting a long time. I could be wrong, but I don't think the issue is fixable with their equipment/technology that they have at this time. Even "we" went a little hog wild when we signed up for unlimited.....never could stream a movie(not even in HD) before, so we watched quite a few no HD movies our first month. Then it all came crashing down. Now imagine thousands of others on the same tower going "hog wild".....game over.
Unfortunately for us, there are no other cellular companies operating in our area. We have 3 verizon towers in our county and verizon does not share them, so for us it's back to Hughes net{groan}...
yah me to so I switched back to the 40gb and now it wont work at all. They want to continue to charge me and its $125.00 a month! Been on the phone several times for hours with them and they cant figure it out.
I got a text from verizon yesterday saying the reason it wont work is because we have no coverage in my area. im not happy.
Like everyone else here mine has tanked as well. I live out in the boonies.
29847 zip code. I can see 3 towers within 20 miles of my houses. When I
was on the grandfathered unlimited plan I never had an issue and always
had 4bars or better. Last April I received a letter from Verizon stating I had
to switch plans and move to the "new" unlimited plan. Since doing so our
phones have gone from 4 bars to 1 maybe 2 most of the time. We have
no other option for internet out here. No cable, no DSL. This is our connection
to the internet, to pay bills and yes stream a Netflix. It has gotten so bad that
after a long relationship with Verizon I am researching other options. The
Verizon store rep told us each line got 22gb and would only be throttled if
the tower was congested. It doesn't matter if it is the first day of the billing
cycle or the last. Doesn't matter if I have used any data or 200gb of data.
We use our phones as hot spots. It is our connection.
I have taken all 3 of our phones to the Verizon Store(2 Droid Z Forces and a S 7 Edge)
and they all check out okay so it is not the phones. This had been working
fine the 2yrs prior on the old grandfathered unlimited plan.
This is just totally unacceptable. Verizon, you were good... now you are the
bottom of the barrel. I will be surprised if I can even get this reply to upload.
Totally frustrated.
Gene
Because Verizon does not understand what the definition of "UNLIMITED" is, soon someone will file a class action law suit to show them what a court will define UNLIMITED as, the advertisement is a scam, thank God you have 14 days to terminate your new service.
Other carriers (at&t, Sprint, T-Mobile and Cricket) also offer Unlimited plans. All of these plans are very similar to Verizon Wireless's.
For Smartphones...after you exceed a certain amount of data within a single billing cycle...you can be slowed down in the event of tower congestion. Once the congestion clears, or, you connect to another tower that is not congested, full speed resumes.
For devices such as the Jetpack, once you exceed a certain amount of data within a billing cycle, you are throttled down to 3G until the start of the next cycle.
Because all of these carriers run similar plans, I tend to think that the FCC is setting the ground rules and the carriers are complying.
This has gotten so bad that I am seriously considering paying the ETF and moving my service via Unlimitedville or 4GCommunity.
Verizon used to care about their customers, now we are mere dollars in their pocket.
I am at the point I am losing business and having to go to McDonalds to use their wifi.
At this point I would never recommend Verizon to anyone anywhere.
A very dissatisfied long term customer.
Hi Gene,
We would never want to see you leave the VZW family. I completely understand your need for great speeds at all times and we definitely want to get this issue resolved. I am going to send you a direct message for review, please respond.
Thanks,
PamelaF_VZW
Pamela,
I answered your PM. I still don't get the feeling that Verizon really cares about me
or my business. I have 3 phones and 2 are over the 22gb limit. The 3rd is not. In fact
far from it yet we still are lucky to see 0.62 DL and 1.2UL on it. 2 of the phones are Moto
Z Force Droids one is a Samsung S7Edge. I have friends with iPhones that are experiencing
the same issues and they are not going over their limits.
So what is the real issue in such that all of us here have seen signal degradation? Will
Verizon even acknowledge an issue? Something has changed out here in the last 3 months.
Frustrated in Twin Lake Estates, Trenton, SC 29847.
Gene,
I'm in the Metro NYC area, I too have been experiencing slow data download speeds as of late, I also get drops in the data stream. It is impossible to download files when that happens, I rely on Verizon wireless for my internet at home via a hotspot. It is hardly worth the $150 a month I'm paying for one line/phone. It might be time for me to switch up my service and I might have to get cable supplied internet too. Verizon has not yet reached out to me with a resolution, it's been over a week and it makes me think that there is no fix. They have possibly overburdened their network with the new unlimited data customers, therefore my only option is to leave VZW or drop to a less than desirable plan and get rid of my grandfathered data plan. Very frustrated here in NY.
I am now 90% sure that I will leave Verizon. I answered the CS rep in a DM as requested.
All I am hearing are crickets. CS and Verizon doesn't care, no matter what they say they
are just empty words.
Today this page took 7 minutes to load. 7 MINUTES!!!! Either the page needs optimizing or
the bandwidth is not there. I just searched and there are 4 Verizon towers within a 10 mile
radius. Yet I seem to be relaying through McDonough, GA which is over 100 miles away.
So Verizon CS Reps, what do your engineers have to say about the [Removed] cell signals?
I literally just went and parked in direct sight of the nearest tower and standing outside of
my car I barely had 2 bars. Tried to pull up 2 different pages and they took painfully long
to load. Like I said this page took 7 MINUTES to load completely.
Verizon forced me to move to the new unlimited plan from my grandfathered unlimited data plan.
Since this is what I get from Verizon it is time to see what the others can provide. Again, they
will reply here asking you to reply to a DM and then go silent. Unbelievable lack of customer
service. I am now wondering if a complaint can be filed concerning fraudulent advertising the
fasted network? And people wonder why the "Can you hear me now" guy has switched providers.
I received my answer on the download speed issue, you can see it here:
Signal Concern Resolution | Verizon Wireless
I never had an issue with signal strength in the past, so I guess the new unlimited data plan has signed up new customers and it has overburdened the network.
melman8r-
Our goal is for you to have the best plan for your usage. I would like to review your account so that we can find the best plan that will fit your usage and data speeds. Please respond to my private message at your earliest convenience.
CarmenT_VZW
I have responded to multiple VZW employees direct messages and they cannot help me? I arrived home tonight and my data download speeds in CHESTER NY are less than 1 mbps. .51 & .55 to be exact. VZW you are telling me that's normal and acceptable, it is neither. I have lived at the same address for 20 years with the same Verizon account the majority of that time, the service was NEVER this bad. If it was I would have left VZW long ago. I'm paying $150 a month for what? The support ticket says that the area is a poor signal area? Hogwash! Maybe it is an over congested network now because VZW has oversold it's unlimited data plans and the network CANNOT support its customers? It looks like my only option is to walk away from Verizon, not by choice; I'm being forced to find a reliable data network to satisfy my needs...
Please tell us how plan selection has anything to do with poor tower signal strength? Your customers are not stupid, just tell us the TRUTH!
How about acknowledging there is a tower problem, then have someone that knows what they are talking about tell us how it is going to be fixed and a timetable of this happening?
I believe the issue is not congestion related. I believe it to be a software glitch caused by a programmer or hacker. It could be Verizon has been hacked and is not telling the world. I am on the 16GB plan for my company phones. I have been blazing speed wise for years. I live in a town of less than 2000. It is happening only on the two towers near where I live. Once I get away from here, my data speeds go from 0.02 - 1.2 mbps up to a cool 20-30 down. It works like a champ. Tier 2 support has verified the towers appear to be functioning correctly and are NOT congested. Tier 3 (the network group) has the ticket opened now. If they are unable to resolve the issue, they will kick the ticket to Tier 4 (the guys that actually go to the tower). It worked this morning for a little while, but was out by the time I returned back to town after being gone to a customer site. It is happening to my mom's phone. It is also happening to my co-worker's phone from time to time although a reboot seems to resolve his problem when it happens. These are the reason why I believe Verizon is either being attacked or has a glitch in the software program running the data algorithms. None of our phones are on the unlimited plans.
As everyone has noticed data speeds have dropped tremendously on Verizon. If everyone can recall and Confirm on these forums. The slowness started October last year. The reason you want to remember that (if it's true in your particular case) is Verizon launched its "Network Optimization" protocol. I spoke to corporate and they were actually kind enough to tell me the truth. At least I feel it's true. They said they planned on launching a new Unlimited plan again but they were going to limit data speeds (like ATT put in their fine print 3mb speed for their unlimited, but Verizon has not specified in the fine print the speed) They also mentioned that the ruse for this to get the heavy data users on the plan and slow them so they leave Verizon. I have been permitted to leave with no penalty (17 lines they told me I should take else where, despite I am the only one who goes over 5gb of data a month, I use 24gb on avg but I am not on the new Unlimited plan, I pay for the 24gb, 16gb plan and 8gb bonus due to admitted data problems they are not willing to fix). So if you are noticing slow speeds you are "flagged" for removal. If Verizon is your only carrier in the area. The only known loop hole for getting around the throttled speed is to get a new account and new phone number and new phone. If you just change phone number but still on the same account well it's your account that is flagged so it's a moot point. It's clever really. I give my vote to Verizon for doing this. Hopefully this answers everyone's concern on slow data... You notice the same repetitive response, oh let's get to the bottom of your problem, then the final question is how much data have you used already this cycle? Genius.
That's an interesting theory, but it does not make sense. It's the nature of the beast to use more data as the speed increases and speed has increased every year since wireless data inception. I was paying more for my 30gig plan than the "Unlimited Plan" that didn't work.
So, Verizon's evil plan now is to make everyone stop using smart phones as computers and go back to using them as phones?
If it's to get rid of the grandfathered accounts, I am sure there has always been some fine print that they could make these "no longer available". Or, just cap the gig's available for all users.....would that not be easier? Unlimited is just asking for abuse......and here we are.
I spoke with Verizon over the weekend. They said since I signed up for the
unlimited plan at the time the speed was 4G for routers with no throttling
to the lower speeds, I am entitled to the 4G speed because when we signed
up for Unlimited, it did not state the routers would be throttled, only
phones and JetPacks. She said she would put it in for my account on the
router to be restored to 4G. She did tell me they made the change at the
end of May which is why we are seeing terrible speed in June.
we recently switched to the unlimited data plan when we had a 18 gig plan and purchased a brand new iphone 7plus and have had absolutely horrible data speeds recently even in towns with normally good speeds. this is absolutely ridiculous! just a couple weeks ago we had amazing speeds and then we switched to this unlimited plan and we got [Removed]! we want our old speeds back!
It seems obvious to me that there is some language in the contract or agreement that unlimited users forfeit their ability to maintain 4G speeds at peak usage. It's not the towers or service, it's the priority lineup. If you can be capped at 30GB, then they can rely on you probably using only up to your 30GB. The traffic stays predictable, you get more reliable speeds. Unlimited clients will always use their data at peak times, and it will never end at 30GB. That's the point of unlimited data; one can't predict their usage, and wants the flexibility to use however much they need. Verizon is clearly taking advantage of these customers by throttling speeds to manage better connections for those that have data limits.
No amount of "escalation" will fix this issue. No matter how many ZIP codes they collect, it'll never solve the problem. They aren't going to send out a tech to adjust some antennas and you'll suddenly feel all better. It's in the automation of those systems. And they will never fix the prioritization to get YOU better speeds, because if they concede to one, they'll have to concede to all.
I don't mean to say that we shouldn't complain, but rather dont expect it to be fixed. They won't change the policy until their reputation is in the toilet and they can't get new lines, for they don't care if they lose YOUR service, they want everyone else's business. They don't care about your money, so quit with the "I pay $150 a month, and you're losing my business, I'm so important to you and my money is worth more than that other persons money" and so on. Trust me, they don't care. They've got new lines rolling in every day. New suckers to suck on. It's when they can't get new lines that they start to struggle. Then they have to change to remain competitive.
Case in point? They offered unlimited again. Verizon started losing market share to AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile despite better cell service and coverage. They're competitors we're giving people what they wanted: unlimited data.
TL;DR
They throttle your speeds to make way for capped clients, and they'll never fix your issue. Despite this, continue complaining so their reputation on this unlimited plan starts to be less than stellar, don't just threaten to leave.
I have the same issue reported in this topic I used to have a 24 GB plan with 3 phones sharing it I got a smarthub for my RV so I could have wifi on the go and I assumed that going unlimited would be good.
Ever since I did that I get less than 1mb upload/download, I need to know why?
eclarkmx, ensuring that you have the right plan to suit your usage needs is a must. Help is here. Our unlimited plan is great but it is important to understand all the ins and outs. With unlimited plan for cellular devices, upon reaching 22GB, your data usage may be prioritized but still unlimited. When using mobile hotspot via the unlimited plan, upon reaching 10GB, your usage will be changed to 3G for the rest of that bill cycle. Are you using your unlimited plan with a hotspot? Hell, I couldn't send 9kb text files if I wanted.
