Why is my iPhone6's battery indicator stuck at 100%?

I'm having battery issues. The icon/indicator on the upper right-hand corner of the screen always says 100%, even after a full day of use. I'm streaming Netflix on it right now, at full screen brightness with the flashlight on, and it's still at 100%. I'm using iOs 9.3.5 and I've tried both a hard reset and turning the phone on and off and neither fixes the problem.
