Default channel set to 501 - FIOS News.

Everytime I turn on the TV after the STB has gone into sleep mode, it starts back to channel 501, Fios News. It used to go back to the last channel watched.

I hate 501 Fios News. How do I change this setting to go back to starting on the last channel watched?

Finally figured out how to remove Fios1 as the default channel on start up. Menu>Settings>System>Set-Top Box>Power On Channel. Press OK and you will have a choice of FIOS1 News Channel or Last Channel Viewed.

Its mostly a bug as they are not suppose to do this or possibly a failing box which keeps reseting its info.

Same here. I'm not a fan of this channel and I hate having it forced on me. Also when I press guide that is exactly what I expect to show up not a pop to upgrade my package.

Some customers in certain areas who have this channel available to them are seeing this now. I guess it was a new update. Some say you can go into the menu and change it while some are saying they cant find the option. I dont have fios 1 news where I am so I'm not experincing this myself.....yet.

Sounds like a solution. Dumb option in my opinion. Its not on the VMS boxes, and was not on the STB when I upgraded, so I never saw this behavior.

User has the ability to disable the FiOS1 News Channel by selecting Menu >Settings >System >Set Top Box > Power On Channel using the Remote Control. This changes the default channel to the last viewed channel. È

My TV just recently started defaulting to Nickelodeon...which I hate! Noisy, cartoonish stuff for kids. I have no kids. My settings/set top box doesn't have an option for "channel on" or "on channel" - I forget the exact term given. The list is: front display, standby front display, screen saver, keypad, ste top box namd, LED brightness, Sleep Timer & help.

This is how you change it after the new update:

Menu>settings>system>media server settings>Power on channel

I have been having this issue since my last upgrade (several days ago). I had it happen after a previous upgrade, so I knew about the option in the menu.

However, no matter how many times I set power on channel to "previously viewed," box turns on to Fios 1. I called about it and tech told me to try setting it to "Fios 1" and turning it off and back on. Then change it to "last viewed" and it should work.

Well, it doesn't. I have tried doing it numerous times and it still comes on to "Fios 1."

I feel like I'm in a resort where every time you turn on the TV, it comes on as the "resort info" channel.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

The solution to this problem is to disable the promotions. Press menu on the remote then settings then system then notifications then promotions. After you choose promotions disable them then you will no longer have fios 1 pop up as the first channel you see. It will then ask you if you are sure that you want to disable and just press yes. This is a bug with the latest IMG that is causing a lot of headaches for customers who live in new jersey. By following these steps what this will also do is do away with the home page screen which is mostly promotions that also has the weather plus today's date and time at the top. Verizon needs to fix this bug because the promotions being disabled will then lead to lost revenue for them because customers will not see the advertisements that may entice them to purchase things that they had no interest in. Everytime they release a new guide update it always cause a lot of weird things such as the fios 1 channel issue which is almost like they are forcing you to watch their news channel which basically has the same half hour news show all day long. Some other weird things they should fix are missing logos on channels 1020,1021 wrong logos on channels 23, 464, 465, 474, 523, 571 just to name a few. They of course have no idea that channel 29 WNYJ is running the live feed of WNYJ 1 but the schedule on the guide is of WNYJ 2 and the most ridiculous of them all is that channel 481 is arise news but the schedule that they have on there is that of al jazeera english which is a channel that has not existed in three years.

Thanks. I just disable promotions. Turned set off and back on. Came back on to last channel. I'm hopeful.

The promotions are very annoying anyway. I didn't realize I could disable them.

Thank you for your help. Hopefully I don't see anymore advetising pop+ups. I didn't know I could get rid of them. It is so annoying especially when I get the same ones multiple times.

Go to Settings Go to System Go to " Set Top Box" Go to " Power On Channel " - Push 'OK'- now wait a few seconds till an option screen comes on. The screen will give you an option of viewing the last chanel you had on instead of " THE ANNOYING FIOS NEWS !!!!!!!! " I feel your pain Thanks
