When will the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active be offered by Verizon?
I am due for an upgrade in February 2014. If Verizon has not stepped up with a smart phone equal to the ATT Galaxy S4 Active I will be switching to ATT.
Mikey444
No one on these boards will be able to give you a specific date, let alone whether or not it even WILL be offered by Verizon.
When-O--When will Verizon step up and offer a Ruggedized Smart Phone? I am NOT talking about a "rugged" Case
for my smart phone. The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active would seem to fit the bill. AT&T seems to get all of the sexy new
phones on "Exclusive" which implies that Verizon will have to wait 6 months to offer their version of the S4 Active.
Put a rugged case on the S4 Active and you would have the best of both worlds of ruggedness covered.
My contract is up.
I am ready to upgrade...But Verizon does not offer any "Rugged" Smart Phones.
AT&T does.
What are my options Verizon????
Yes Verizon Wireless does have a rugged phone. Casio Commando.
Just because it doesn't suit you, doesn't mean you should dismiss it.
I am interested in the S4 Active and it does not look good for Verizon to not offer this phone.
I am up for an upgrade and has a few months to go on my contract. Verizon is going to loose my account for sure at the end of my contract. ATT here I come....
Why is Verizon late to the game on all phones? I am sure there is a true business reason, but one would assume - being the biggest and the best carrier would carry some weight with the manufactures. HTC One and S4 Active?? why not carry them? if you are, what is the hold up ? Are you waiting for us to leave before you decide to carry them? ATT is knocking on your door, if you think folks will not leve for a better device selection you are not thinking!!
if you think there is no intrest go to google and see how many people are searching for the news on your release date??? I would think we are tired of waiting, we want to be the first on the block to have it, now we are just poor suckers waiting for you to feed us$%^&*().
If the other carriers can do it why no Verizon!!
The reason VZW is late to the game with all phones is because they run on CDMA technology, have to load crappy bloatware on the phone, and strip out the good functions before it can be released. 80 to 90 percent of the world runs on GSM, so that means VZW will always be late to the game unless they pay extra to get the phone at the same time and eat the cost. I left for AT&T because VZW has the worst phone selection of all the carriers and their coverage is not as great as they tout it. I get 4G way faster on my AT&T phone in comparison to my VZW counterparts. My other thought is that if VZW doesn't care enough to announce phone availability earlier than a week before it drops, then they can keep waiting on people to buy them because I'm never going back. The day they allow me to buy any phone out there and bring it to their network, then I might consider coming back.
Sprint runs on the same CDMA, but they get the phones the same time ATT does!!
You are incorrect on that assumption yknotbw. Do they have the LG Optimus G Pro? Do they have the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active? That is a no on both phones, right? So you need to correctly state that Sprint gets some phones at the same time as AT&T, but most of the time it's after it has been launched on AT&T for a bit. Check official launch dates sometime and you'll see that Sprint does not get 90% of the phones AT&T can get their hands on because of CDMA technology.

OK, then, what is your experience with buying an unlocked phone and putting it on the VZW network?
My experience is that it does not work. If you purchase an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S4 Active from AT&T, it will not have the CDMA radios needed to work on the Verizon network. Additionally, Verizon only allows phones in its database to access its network.
I would love to know when also. I have been holding on to our UNLIMITED data. But we have those AWFUL thunderbolt phones. I HAVE BEEN VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS PHONE. it has been the ABSOLUTE WORST phone we have EVER had. I am trying to figure out a way to keep from getting screwed out of our unlimited data. I am thinking we will have to just switch carriers. Hopefully someone can find out when/if verizon will get the s4 active.
I would not expect Verizon to get this device.
tibblgr434,
You can keep your unlimited plan intact, but, you will have to pay full price for the phone. Could be worth it, say you pay $600 for the Galaxy S4 Active...that is $400 over the discounted rate that Verizon offers you on the phone if you completely change your plan into one that does not have unlimited data. Your plan does not change in its terms and your plan does not change in price and you get a pretty good phone, maybe. You would not have a contract and could jump ship anytime...however, not everyone uses CMDA and your phone may not be transferable to another carrier.
Fabulous, yes?

I still have my unlimited data plan and get my upgrades at the discounted price. I typically go in every time I am eligible. I haven't this year because I am holding out to see if they do get the Active and my service has been really crappy lately. For what our family pays per month for our service plans, I would expect to get better service so we are contemplating switching to a different provider once all our contracts are up, or most of them are up. We just have to shop around and ask friends about the providers they have to see who offers the best service for our area and when we travel. Hate switching since we were with Alltel before they were bought out by Verizon, so technically with the same provider for about 10 years.
Thanks so much for 10 years, jhawkinson. Your loyalty is appreciated. We are concerned about the service you have been getting, especially if there has been a decline in service. Where are you located? Have we sent an engineer out to check the area for you? For information regarding new products & service, check out http://bit.ly/n5snpq. I heard it will be available Aug 31st
Gonna need a source on that one.
Mikey4444,Switching? Well, that's certainly not something I like to hear this early in the morning. Mikey, we don't have any news on the Galaxy S4 Active or comparable models but you can check in frequently for news on device launches at http://bit.ly/n5snpq . Additionally, if getting the most out of your device while leading an active lifestyle is what you're looking for, check out the Casio G'zOne 4G LTE Commando http://vz.to/14DZDf5Evan_VZWPlease follow us on twitter @VZWSupport
Verizon store rep told us a few days ago.
I wouldn't believe it. Most store reps don't know anything about device release dates.
Any updates on when/if verizon will get the S4 Active?
Verizon Tech support supervisor (level 2) told me a few days ago that it's definitely coming soon!
I wouldn't put too much stock in that, there hasn't been any reports of this in the rumor mill (unless this phone isn't even popular enough for the blogosphere to take notice).
In July, I wasn't given when but told 'exclusivity' is only purchased for a certain amount of time, typically a few weeks or months, then it's available to other providers. I can only have 4 or 5 downloaded apps on my Vortex without running out of internal memory and becoming unable to receives texts or calls, plus I want my phone to go with me in water activities, so I am waiting with bated breath.... Come on, hurry up!
This phone was released by AT&T on 6-21-13 so if you do the math it should be available 10-19-13 on Verizon. The htc one was released 4-19-13 on AT&T and became available on the Verizon network on 8-22-13. 120 days is a long time to wait but if you really think the active fits your needs like myself, you will wait another month.
Mobile phones are a little like automobiles: you might get tired of the one you own, but you'll only truly make your money back over the long haul. It stands to reason that Verizon will get the S4 Active, but not before the next iteration is already on the horizon. True enough, on the whole Verizon is not on the breaking edge of phone releases, but their overall coverage (albeit not 4GLTE) is hard to beat.
Among the most cost-efficient options remains finding a program like Ting and buying an available phone through them. You may be salivating over your next mobile device, you will be okay if you let it go, trust me.
I bought my S3 at full price through Verizon (the amber phone). I listen to FLAC to Samsung had me there, and no phone, not even a 64 GB version (plus card) would make me happy enough there (I need a 2TB MicroSD). I could root my Verizon phone to expel some of the bloatware also, but I have it pretty much under control without doing that. Even the S3 phone works well.
(Rooting discussion removed)
I also may choose to change providers, but not because I must have the latest phone in my pocket upon release date. The things you own can end up owning you.

I spoke to a rep today who told me that Verizon is getting the Galaxy 4S Active soon. He said that Verizon's network requires that the phones have more sophisticated and expensive hardware than AT&T and that is why Samsung initially issues to them first. He also noted that typically, the Verizon versions of the phones that AT&T are able to issue earlier than Verizon tend to have better user reviews than AT&T's versions because the Verizon hardwared phones end up being more robust.
I've been holding out for an rugged smart phone to replace my Casio Boulder. I was interested in the Casio G'z one 4G, but the reviews have not been solid enough for me to make that leap. I'm figuring that the reviews of the Galaxy 4S should be an indication of how the 4S Active will be and although there are phones with better reviews, I think I'm going to hold for Verizon's version of the 4S Active.
That rep is feeding you a line.
Verizon likes to make phone manufactures display the verizon logo on everything and then they like to get their hands on the U/I and tweak it all around their wonderful bloatware. They install things like VW backup and try to charge for it even though your gmail account does that for you for free. This takes time. Also they like to pick up a phone after the original release and bully companies way down in price so they can charge the same as everyone else and benefit from a larger delta. That rep, though he made it sound apealing, was telling you nothing but lies. is there a difference between different data networks? Absolutely. even if there was a vast difference between hardware in phones.... Don't you think that Samsung would have known this and started custom building the ACTIVE for verizon when they started building it for ATT (or sooner so they could be released at the same time)
Again, is the Active coming anytime soon? Contract is close to up. ATT is a consideration if this phone is not available. Not happy with my Casio.
Hi CoachRob1010,Don't go! I know new phones are so exciting. We have no information on the Active. You can keep you with the latest device news here http://bit.ly/n5snpq . What's going on with your Casio? What model Casio device? Keep me posted.Thanks,PamelaF_VZWTweet us@vzwsupport
I have been waiting too long for the Galaxy S4 Active I dont see what the hold up is! I see you finally are offering the mini but if the Active does not become available soon I will have to switch providers. Which are also offering cheaper plans as well. I have been with Verizon for over 10 years guess its time to switch...
OK, but do you gave any information on how long AT&T gets to keep exclusive rights to the active? This is crazy, I've been waiting a long time to finally move to a smartphone. Due to my work, a rugged and water resistant phone is a must. The Active is perfect but I've no desire to move to AT&T. Why can't these phones be offered across carriers and let the public decide who provides the best service/signal and choose a carrier based on those qualities rather than this situation which is forcing people to maybe change to a company they would rather not go to but is only way to get the needed phone? Now waiting for S5 , initial rumors were it would come ruggedized as standard since so many people like the Active which was great news but now it appears it will not have the S4 Active ruggedized features. :-(
Great questions!

We do wish we had more information for you, becker69. We do not have information on a device we do not carry at the present time. We appreciate you wanting to stay with us for the long haul. TamaraH_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
If you don't buy this phone soon it will be discontinued by at&t
Been with Verizon from 2002 till now.. But I'm like you aslade. Verizon seems to be loosing ground. AT&T, T-mobile, and Sprint seem to get it. Unlimited stuff for less than Verizon. I have a discount through my work and I can get service cheaper without it anywhere else. Plus they keep getting all the worst phones and you can't seem to get a good one (i'm on my 6th Bionic and Verizon don't care). All they want is to make me run over to the New big spender plans. Great strategy! Economy is still rough and Let's charge more for data and give them less. My contract is up in Feb 2014. My wife and I are most likely going to switch. Hey I'll get a Phone like the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active that's worth a ****!! YAY!
Much as I hate this, I may have to leave Verizon too. I'm one of those forever committed types and this sucks! My contract ended and I REALLY NEED a phone with a good processor that is pretty much unbreakable - the galaxy s4 active is the only thing I can find. I would be happy if Verizon had any smart phone with good processor, memory, etc. that was tough, but they don't and I don't feel like having a bulky otter box which doesn't even water protect it. I have a Razr Maxx and it still works (A first for me. I break everything!) It just can't handle the load I put on it and it barely works due to lagging. It's probably beat up too but I haven't even cracked the screen which makes me extremely happy. I have a family plan and despite it costing me a few more dollars to move my number to AT&T, I think I'm going to do it. Then I can just move my three kids over one at a time as their contracts end. Honestly, about 6 or 7 years ago, Verizon told me they would have internet to where I live "in a few months". I still don't have it!! I understand that businesses just do the best they can but I am getting too many disappointments. :smileysad: Maybe I'm being suspicious, but I have to wonder if Verizon actually DOES NOT want a great, unbreakable phone because they make so much money off of people breaking their devices! I am happy to pay more for a tough phone that does what I need and I would upgrade when the next best thing came out even if my phone still worked. Most of us would. Seriously, I can't believe that it just isn't possible for them to offer something. My guess is they've had the capability for a very long time already!
Why am I ranting/whining here? I really wish someone would tell me that there is an option! It would have to be better than a Razr Maxx from usefullness perspective or I might as well keep the lagging one I have and no I do not just want an otter box. I have searched and googled soooo much for the answer. Please tell me there is one!!!!
