my data speeds have slowed dramatically since I have switched to the unlimited plan. Why is that?
I have the same problems. New month just started and I can't even use data at home because it's so slow! I work from home as well and this data speed is just getting worse each month! Do we have an answer to this problem
We want to make sure you have reliable data speeds, Cindymcclain. What is your ZIP Code? How long have you been experiencing this issue?

I'm in the same boat, I had the great original unlimited and switched over to save a little bit a month (this is a couple of months ago), but I was never told from any sales agent that I could be throttled! I went from having great reception everywhere, too I can not even download my email sometimes because of this horrible unlimited throttling. I have called and put in a trouble ticket and they forwarded me to apple to fix my problem, sorry but it isn't an iphone problem its a Verizon problem! When I get to the point of being throttled I check my internet and my up and down speeds show as err since they are so slow, they do not even register. I'm not paying over priced compared to the other carriers to not be able to use my own phone. I live in Houston (77346) the nations 3rd largest city, and in some spots I have no reception, I can't even download a simple email. I would never have switched plans if I knew this, and I am definitely looking at other carriers now that I see how little I feel you care about your customers problems. As we speak I have been staring at the spinning wheel on my email on my phone, trying to get my work email that my boss keeps asking me about.
[Removed] my speed is really slow now after i switch to unlimited. is verizon capping us secretly? is this one of those thing where they get sue later on and we each get a dollar each after filing a claim. sad thing is i'm never even close to 5tv yet. and the cap is suppose to be after 22gb.

This evening it took SEVEN minutes to load the Verizon speed test. They are
throttling us below the 3G speed.

Your not the only one like my data went from being like good to now being spotty. Specially on hotspot all the time like works good for netflix but browsing and downloa forget it about it!
So I make a complaint in here about speeds, and no Verizon customer service has come in to assist. they came in to moderate someone who was upset about the throttling but no customer service. It just keeps going back to what we said before of customer service not really helping customers!
TEKKEN3POWER,
We want nothing more than for you to be able to get the best available speeds where you need it most. If you haven't reached the 22GB, you should definitely not be deprioritized in any way. What zip code are you in? When you leave your area, do speeds improve? If so, how far do you have to travel? What speeds are you getting on your phone?

I also have an iphone 7 plus and switched to unlimited about 3-4 months ago. Before i switched to unlimited i had a 40gb a month data plan and my service was very fast no complaints. Since i have switched it seems everyday to get worse. It is to the point i cant even use my phone. It took 8 min just to log in to be able to post to this. The frustration is real. I am no where near the 22gb cap either. I cant even use a gb because my phone wont load enough to even use that.
There have been pieces written that speculate that Verizon Wireless is experiencing network congestion due to the popularity of the Unlimited plan.
If this is true, I'm not too sure that the company will take major steps to tackle the problem...primarily due to the fact that the focus is now on getting the new 5G network in place and closing off the existing CDMA network to new activations.
Ok, I might be able to shed some light on what is actually going on for most of you. I worked for T-Mobile for years and have 2 friends that currently work for Verizon. They are not allowed to share this information, as it could be viewed as a conflict and is grounds for termination. It's the closest thing to the truth that you'll get.
1) While signal strength, interference and weather do cause issues, you can check your device relatively quickly to find out if it's you or the carrier. It's usually in "settings>mobile networks" or something like that. For example: I'm on the line for central / east Texas, in a small town of about 1500 people, with no close towers belonging to Verizon. My signal, while holding my phone in my hands is -114dBm 26asu. That's basically 2 bars of 4g LTE. It gives me a consistent speed of 67ms 7.25 down and 0.25 - 4.15 up. My signal strength is currently poor, but setting my phone in the window, upright and at least 5 feet away from people or other electronic devices helps by giving me an extra bar. Anything that carries an electric current, generates interference, including the human body. You won't have to stand on one leg, but you get the idea. Also, having your device on a charger is ok, so It doesn't drain your battery. The lower the dBm, the better reception you will have. My example should at least show you what to expect on your end. Network congestion or not. Research noise levels for a more detailed explanation.
2) Network congestion will give you erratic speeds, but in the sense of "throttling" it's slightly different. With a 10GB cap on hotspot, and 22GB cap on devices, the further you go past that cap, the more you will be throttled, or slowed down. Load balancing is to blame for this, but it was set up to be that way. It's not true that "data hogs" are "blacklisted". It IS true that throttling isn't a one time thing that occurs during a billing cycle. It KEEPS happening, the further you go past your data caps. You can and will be throttled to somewhere between 10kbps - 600kbps. If you have a high latency and low speeds for upload and download, but good signal, you're probably looking at network congestion. It's dependant on your signal. If you're looking at low latency and low speeds, you're being throttled. Being throttled does not always cap you at a certain speed, but that's the general idea that was put into place to deal with the "data hogs". That's when it's on THEM.
3) The techs, Reps and general employees only know what they're taught or told and have to figure the rest out for themselves. They're not your enemy and about 95% are actually just trying to help you on a professional AND personal level. If they could just snap their fingers and fix everyone's problems, they would. Believe me when I say that I've been there and dealt with it for years. The stress of being screamed at by different people over the phone or in person for something you cannot fix is insane. All carriers have a retention department and their sole purpose is to give in to some of your demands to retain you as a customer and shut you up. Literally. If a rep and or tech can't help you, that's where you'll end up if they want to retain your business. Not everyone ends up there. It is TRUE that they know more about your plan than you do and what will happen to you if you do certain things, but they can only tell you if you ask directly. They are allowed to hang up on you if they feel threatened, but they have to go about it a certain way.
4) Threats of legal action will get you nowhere. The FCC regulates what they can and cannot do as pertaining to transmissions. BBB won't do anything as they all know what they're doing and they're technically not breaking any rules. A class action suit would only be affective with enough complaints and enough angry customer involved, but you would have a lot of rallying to do.
In summation: You're going to have to pay special attention to the fine print from now on, no offense intended. Nothing is free. Nothing is truly unlimited. There's almost always a catch. That's just the way the world of cellular service works. No matter which carrier you pick, you're going to have these issues with data. This hotspot is my primary source of internet, and I will never use satellite connections again. So if you're in a situation like me, then you're literally out of options. I hate it too, but that's just how it is. An omission is no better than a lie, but it's not a lie. Sometimes that's all that keeps you from a lawsuit.

You're probably connected to the towers in Memphis, so some of that could be congestion. Not THAT much though. Easiest way to tell is to do a few speed tests at 0300 -0400 if you just happen to wake up in the middle of the night. Seeing numbers like that generally means you barely have a usable signal. Having several bars of signal doesn't always means it's a good signal. I'm connected to Houston, which is 2 1/2 hours south of me, and during the day, my numbers plummet. You're in a way better coverage area than me though. I'd start raising [Removed] because they're doing you dirty. I'd rather tell you a harsh truth than a sweet lie.

I too have experienced a slow down. I switched to the unlimited plan just 2 days ago and my speed/performance has been reduced.
I chatted with 2 service reps who had me doing all kinds of checking and resetting settings etc. The problem is not my device. I have a newer iPhone 7 plus that was running flawlessly right up to the moment I switched my plan.
I'm afraid that there are possibly some sneaky business practices going on here. We know that according to Verizon, throttling isn't supposed to happen until 22 gb, but they have something called optimizing or optimization which they say is not throttling, but as far as the user experience is concerned, it has the same outcome, slower speeds.
I'm done. I'm switching to a new provider on Monday. I realize all of these providers do the same thing, but I'm switching because I can take advantage of a deal that will get us new phones. Then, I'll switch again after a year or two and just keep playing these companies off of each other. As the customer, that's about all we can do.
Seeing you look at any other providers is not the outcome we want to have happen, Atonal. We don't want to lose you! Let's take a closer look at your service. What speeds are you getting? I've chatted with two customer service reps as it is. I'm done. The problem is not on my end with my device or with any lack of knowledge on my part. It is slower network speeds for unlimited data users. Nothing changed from the moment I had lightning fast LTE to slow LTE except my plan went from XXL 24gb to unlimited. My device did not all of a sudden have problems. LOL
In a couple of years I'll see if Verizon has fixed the situation and has ended throttling and "optimization".
And my month ends on the 4th and I've only used 8gb!! I'm sorry but I'm not buying there's nothing wrong in the area!! It was just fine before I went on unlimited!! Heck I could hit 15 gb in 2 weeks! This is the only source of Internet I have available in my area, besides at&t! I've been a Verizon customer from day 1 and this is probably the worst it's been!! I'm loyal but it's getting hard especially when I'm getting a reminder that my bill is due in two days and I can't even use the internet!! Because my speeds are ping 118. .28 upload. .10 download
speedtest on 7/27 before switching to unlimited:
46.12 down, 3.33 up
speedtests after switching to unlimited:
7/29 6.22 down, 1.03 up
7/30 5.94 down, 0.09 up
7/31 7.49 down, 4.80 up
I realize my results seem to be quite a bit better than many other posters on this thread, but you can see the immediate performance degradation that happened on the day that I switched. The lackluster speed tests show in laggy performance in real world use.
I had the XXL 24gb plan before I switched to unlimited and had no performance issue whatsoever. Now I can't even switch back because the largest plan is 8 gb. Very sneaky on VZW's part.
I'm heading to another top tier provider that will pay off all 5 of my family's phones and we will have a much better monthly rate.
Good luck everyone!
Atonal wrote:I had the XXL 24gb plan before I switched to unlimited and had no performance issue whatsoever. Now I can't even switch back because the largest plan is 8 gb. Very sneaky on VZW's part.
Atonal wrote:
Of course, you mean the largest plan available online without calling CS or stopping by a Verizon store is 8 GB. If you call in to CS or stop by a Verizon store to make the change, you can get a plan larger than the 8 GB. It is likely you can even switch back to your 24 GB plan.
Atonal wrote:I'm heading to another top tier provider that will pay off all 5 of my family's phones and we will have a much better monthly rate. Good luck everyone!
Keep in mind when you have another provider pay off your Verizon phones, you must turn them in to the new provider and purchase new phones on their payment plan or up front in full. Of course, this will bring your monthly payment up higher than just the cost of service. Considerably higher if you will be purchasing 5 new phones.
Good luck to you, too. Let us know how it works out with the new provider.
I've also been having issues. I switched to the new data plan (not even unlimited, just the 3Gb one!) and my data speeds have dropped to almost nothing. I'm not even close to using all my data for the month BECAUSE I CAN'T! I was thinking of going with a higher GB plan, but assuming these slow speeds continue, it'll just be a waste of money (I live in Tucson, AZ a large city that should NOT be having these data speed issues) my family are on the old pre-paid plans and their data is still fine. Somehow, by switching (I went from the 2Gb plan for $45/month to the 3Gb for $40/month) I got de-prioritized. Honestly, I'd rather go back to the 2Gb plan, even though it was less data, at least I was actually able to use it.
az_cactus, we want to speed things up for you on that device. Which make/model phone do you have? Did you recently download a new application or update the software on your phone?
LasinaH_VZW
Its occurring on all my devices. No, the problem is not my phone. The
problem is your network, which I have already proven. I have an s7, an s7
edge, 2 iphones. All experiencing same problem since switching to
"unlimited" plan. I am currently in contact with your executive office and
plan on switching providers if I am not completely satisfied in the very
near future.

It is fairly well known that Verizon Wireless is undertaking a network-based upgrade. The new 5G network is being installed and that will replace the current CDMA network.
In another topic, ANN154 notes that Verizon Wireless is repurposing some of its existing network hardware over to 5G. This could result in reduced signal strength and slower data speeds on the existing CDMA network.
Thats great but im not on CDMA and not experiencing low signal strength.
Either way, no excuse for poor service considering Verizon charges much
more than their competitors. Try again.
Maybe I should have said 4G as opposed to CDMA. Either way you are still on the old network.
If....and I mean if....this is what is actually happening, then no amount of "Try Again" is going to make any difference.
Verizon Wireless won't likely be augmenting the existing network because it will be closed to new traffic in the not too distant future.
If you feel that you can get a better deal/service with another carrier, then vote with your wallet. But keep in mind that, when other carriers start to upgrade their respective networks, this scenario is likely to be repeated.
Let me set the record straight Verizon knows very well what the score is - they offered this goofy unlimited data and the only way they could accommodate it is to [Removed] its current users out of our speed to enable them to offer unlimited and put a cap on the download speed ay around 1-2 meg.
White your congress man and notify the better business Bureau. Verizon is charging us full price for 3-4 G LTE and cutting us down to dial up speed. They are doing nothing at all to the towers so don't lety them tell you they are. One of their tech's which isa friend of mine advised me NOTHING IS BEING DONE.
They had to lower our speed so all the [Removed] who are paying for unlimited don't soak up all the bandwidth.
I have copied this page and if it gets deleted I will supply it to the trade commission with all my other documents.
Something is seriously wrong; I've verified crazy slow "unlimited 4G LTE" with all my co-workers, inside buildings, outside, multiple locations around town. It's not my devices (I have 4, 2 iphones and 2 ipads). Reset everything with Verizon customer service. No impact on the problem. Omaha area (tested at far East and West end of town - multiple zip codes). .5-1Mbps, occasionally 2Mbps. I think I saw 4Mbps once today; lasted about 10 seconds (back to 1Mbps the next test). Went to lunch with my co-workers today - 6 of us with verizon tested our speed - the max was 2Mbps. The 1 guy with "the other vendor" was laughing his head off ... 30-40Mbps with "the other vendor". I use my devices for work so if they aren't usable I'll be switching extremely shortly and doing what I have to in order to deal with the penalties.
Yep. Same deal here. VZW executive support told me today, "no problems in
your area. Please take your phone to a store for examination/repair." This
was an hour after we ran a test with 15 Verizon phones against a tmobile
phone and a few AT&T phones. The ATT phones got between 19 - 25mbps down,
the tmob guy got 9mbps, and EVERY Verizon phone was showing approx 0.5mbps
down by about 1.5mbps up. I give up. Verizon wins and the customers they
are taking advantage of are without any recourse, other than paying the
extortion (early termination) fee and going elsewhere. Obviously, they do
not want my $400/month. Basically, the lies just trickle down from the
top. You win, Verizon! Congratulations!! Enjoy the slow hemorrhaging of
your 10+ year customers.
MKITCHE, we surely do not want you to cancel service. It is important for you to have reliable and consistent service. Let's see if your data speed concerns are related to the unlimited plan. How many GB have you used? Please check via My Verizon: http://vz.to/2vhhRXH.

My plan was switched to the new "unlimited" plan without my knowledge, authorization or consent when I called to voice my concerns over extremely slow data speeds as of late. Once I discovered that the VZW CS rep had made the switch, I demanded that my grandfathered unlimited data plan be restored; it took a month to do so and I now have my " loyalty plan" back in place. The speeds are much much better than the new "unlimited" plan but at times they are not great, it seems to me that network congestion and overcrowding is the issue. I'm not sure what to do, switch to T-Mobile entirely or stick it out with VZW, when my VZW phone is sloooow, my T-Mobile phone is blazing fast. But in the end, VZW network is generally a lot faster in my area than T-Mobile when not busy. Choices... I have to decide whether it is worth paying a premium ($150 for one line) on VZW which is no longer the most reliable network in America or make the switch to another carrier for less than half the cost?
Fools working at customer service. Total neglect and disregard. Verizon has gone down the drain.
5 phone calls since I upgraded 6 weeks ago.
Every troubleshooting steps done, including replacing iPhone 7 twice
15 years with Verizon
7 years in current location where I used to get 40-50MBps download easily
On phone with tier-2 now, they're stupid and clueless and pretending they don't know about the many complaints.
These auto-responses are quite infuriating. Same problems today; multiple devices and accounts. Data plan is barely use, 1.1gb and none of it doing anything productive... all used running speed tests all over town.
Figured out I could get a genuine unlimited data plan from another provider, hotspot device only since I'm stuck with my verizon contracts. But if I drop the unlimited data plan I'm a couple bucks ahead with the other provider being my hotspot. Speed test was 33Mbps where my Verizon Unlimited had 0.01Mbps. Bought it; will cancel my verizon data plan at the end of the bill cycle.
I just went unlimited today and thought immediately there was something wrong. I couldn't get pages to load in Facebook or watch something on YouTube without it hanging up. I thought it was my phone so I restarted it and it still continued to happen. I work in downtown Sacramento, CA so I shouldn't be having any reception problems. Did I read I had 14 days to go back to my old plan? I'm not paying more for less service that is for sure.
LORIWELLS6, we want to make sure your service is working as it should. We are here to provide support. Customers can switch back to any qualified plan at any time. If it was an older or grandfathered plan then you should have the 14 days. Do you know what plan you were on? What zip code are you in?

Unlimited limitations. Welcome to the new Verizon. America's slowest yet
"most reliable" network.
Go back to your old plan!
Sent from my iPhone
Easier said than done. Verizon said that is not an option, then tried to
sell me one of their newer, equally slow plans.
Pretty much, 10GB download looks like this. I'll check back this time next year and see how much is left. My 90s internet was literally better than what Verizon offers with their unlimited plan. Lmao
Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet
It doesn't matter if your on the unlimited plan or pay like I do for 24 gigs. Since Verizon created the unlimited plan for the masses all data is slowed. My current location 8 years ago I could barley pull 3g speeds. Over the last 8 years my internet as progressively gotten better to the point right before the unlimited plan was I was pulling down almost 10mb which was amazing. Then it all went BOOM!
Congratulations Verizon in giving me the same if not worse service you did 8 years ago. So why stay as a customer? I literally have no choice... Verizon is the only service where I live. I can say the moment another service comes in , Verizon will loose hundreds if not thousands of customers at one time.
Some technical info : Love how the customer service folks on here say lets fix your issue.. blah blah blah stop the nonsense. Its your network period tell these people the truth. No matter how many times you reboot your phone or make your phone pick a cell tower.

[Removed]. Verizon Their 2 confirmed my lines were being "de-priortized" basically all the time. This started the day I switched! I went from the "More Everything 10gb" plan getting 40+mbps to UNDER 1mbps with the GoUnlimited plan, I often saw .32mbps download! I can't even stream music on my way to work like I used to all the time. Funny because upload was often 20mbps+.
They switch me back to the cheaper more Everything plan (cheaper because of 25$ per line discounts) It starts tomorrow. We will see how that goes and if my speed returns.
That will hold me over until I can review T-Mobiles offerings. Guys in my Office switch to T-Mobile and have really like its unlimited plan. Sad because I have been a VZW customer for long time.
I don't have unlimited data, but I do have terrible data speed and always have. I've pretty much given up on using my phone for anything requiring data. I just use wifi only for those features. If there was a better data plan in Oregon, I'd leave Verizon in a heartbeat.

My speeds slowed to a crawl before we switched to the unlimited plan. We were out and about no WiFi, driving. Neither my husband's or my phone could load anything. We were trying to check Redbox app for a movie, wasn't loading so I tried other apps and even tried pulling up Google search. No dice. They are clearly focusing on quantity ocer quality now. We will have to switch to another company.
JANSTR15, help is here as the last thing we'd want is for you to leave us. I know the importance of having reliable service. Let's work together to get this figured out. When did this begin? What do you experience with the other functions of your phone, i.e. calls and text messages? What's your zip code?

It started a while ago shortly after they closed our center, maybe in
April/May. There were a couple instances where I could not make a call. I
am too busy to document this and have been hearing other people with the
same problems. I honestly dismissed it a few times but getting kind of
tired of it and received a great deal already from a friend who used to
work at verizon with me and now works with sprint. All 4 lines unlimited
with device payments at 145 before tax.

I thought at first after reading this thread the trick was not to change plans but we have been experiencing slower speeds for a few weeks now. The only thing that changed was we were given 1GB in some promotional thing from Verizon Up. There I think is the problem once they go into your account and change it something either software or technical then hits the phones on that account and makes the phones slower.
Switched to unlimited a couple of weeks ago on 4 lines, been with Verizon since they took over Alltel. Speed slowed the day after switching, to the point now where a simple Google search takes forever to load. I used to use my data over Wi-Fi because it was faster. Seems to be at dial-up speed now. Nothing's changed on any of the four phones except switching to unlimited data.
Which unlimited plan was selected? The gounlimited plan allows for speed throttling at any time for any reason.
It seems like users who subscribe to one of the fixed cap data plans are not being throttled like subscribers of the unlimited plans are.
Went from a 12 gig shared plan to go unlimited. Wishing I hadn't now!
That seems to be the tradeoff between capped and unlimited plans. With capped plans data usage needs to be monitored, but, throttling and deprioritization are not real factors.
With unlimited service, there are no hard limits, but, data speed is going to vary.
In my situation, I have Verizon FiOS here at home, and, have access to decent wireline-based Internet in the places I frequent. A tiny 1GB plan does the trick and every time I do a speed check, I see readings around 50M.
BARNEYMIKE71 wrote:Went from a 12 gig shared plan to go unlimited. Wishing I hadn't now!
BARNEYMIKE71 wrote:
Yes, if you switch from a plan which has NO throttling to a plan which can throttle you down to 600 kbps anytime in your monthly cycle, you are likely to realize a difference in the speeds you are used to experiencing. Had you taken any speed tests while on your old 12 GB plan? If so and your speeds were well above 600 kbps why did you choose a plan which would allow Verizon to throttle you down to that speed anytime during your monthly cycle? Why didn't you go with the higher priced unlimited plan which gives you a higher data speed with no throttling until you reach 22 GB of data on a device before that device would possibly be throttled.

Hello,
The slow LTE speeds have been a continuing issue with Verizon since they added these misleading unlimited plans. Everywhere I go my data speed on a full LTE signal with a direct line of sight to the tower is 3 Mbps at the highest. This is 3G speed, not LTE speed. I along with many other people have tried to explain the extremely slow speeds to Verizon's Tech Coach team and their Network Dept. However, the only information they keep giving me is the same old story they tell everyone. Did you restart your phone, did you reset network settings, there are buildings in the way of your signal, and etc. The people answering the phones at Verizon don't have a clue what is really going on and they are trained to give you those same old answers.
I'm a radio communications tech and I have connections with the contractors that service Verizon's repeaters and network systems in our area. They confirmed to me that Verizon is defiantly deliberately ordering their contractors to slow the data transfer rates way down due to the new "Unlimited Plans".
With that being said there isn't much we can do at this point because Verizon is playing stupid like they don't know what's really going on. Maybe if enough people get behind this they will put the data transfer rate back to where LTE is supposed to be.
Verizon LTE Slower Than Dial Up - YouTube
This should sum up how they are treating unlimited plans
Ran a test earlier tonight with my iPhone 6 on an Unlimited Plan and my mom‘s iPhone 6 on a 6gb/month plan. My monthly cycle just started and I’ve only used 2gb so far. My mom has used about 1.5gb in her cycle so far. All network settings were reset and phones restarted before tests. All other potentialay relevant settings (such as roaming settings and others were set to match as well). Ran numerous speed tests through different outlets on both devices. So you would assume both phones tests similarly......NOPE. My mom’s phone averaged download speeds of 12-16Mbps and uploads of 2-4Mbps. Mine however average downloads of .9-2.2Mbps with uploads ranging from 1.4-4.7Mbps. So how does one justify 14Mbps compared to 1.5Mbps when the only possible difference is that I’m on an unlimited plan? I’m not even close to my 22gb “deprioritization limit” yet I’m CLEARLY being deprioritized. So just a disclosure before anyone on here thinks about switching to an unlimited plan, beware. Your speeds will most likely get [Removed] :-(

My wife and I have been on the unlimited data plan as of October 17, 2017 and have been very disappointed with the service we have been receiving. All experience up until this point has been superb with Verizon, but the past week and a half has had us both wishing we had never gone to the unlimited plan.
Our zip code is 72764, Springdale, AR. This is a large metropolitan area, made up of roughly 500,000 people, so it is not like we are in the middle of the sticks.
I am currently reading -77dBm for signal strength in my area based off of 42 individual cell recivers, so the signal strength is not poor.
On my last recording of my service I had a download speed of 0.58 Mbps, an upload speed of 5.55 Mbps, and a ping of 54.
Needless to say all we were watching was a loading sign spin on our phones for content to load before timing out.
Any help on trouble shooting our problem and restoring the speeds we once had with Verizon would be greatly appreciated.
For those experiencing similar problems, use the Coverage Map app by ROOT Metrics, it provides excellent information on cell signal.
Because the go unlimited plan allows them to throttle your speed down to accommodate people on the Beyond unlimited plan. Just spent two days on the phone with them the only way to get your speed back is the spend more money on the Beyond unlimited plan.
That was a great test! You should get a big star for that one.
If you are nowhere near the de-prioritization threshold, what's going on?
Is it a case where VZW's own description of de-prioritization doesn't match the technical realities of their implementation?
Not only is the term "Unlimited" misleading, so is the term de-prioritization, and the threshold provided.
Also, de-prioritization is effectively throttling under high-use conditions.
Analogy: Let's say you were trying to take the subway, but you were de-prioritized by having to wear a ball-and-chain, such that every time a train arrived at the station, you could only move slowly to the doors, and they would close ahead of you such that you missed another train. In the system, you wouldn't get very far, very fast compared to other travelers would you? Now imagine, instead of you, it's your data packets from your phone we are talking about.

I can't help but notice you don't indicate which of Verizon's Unlimited Plans(gounlimited or beyondunlimited) to which you have subscribed. I switched to Verizon's beyondunlimited data plan on October 16 because I did not want the possibility of re-prioritization until I had reached 22 GB of usage on my phone. I have experienced none of the problems you have described. Of course, had I made the switch to Verizon's gounlimited data plan I would have expected some of the problems you describe.
I have run at least a hundred speed tests since I have made this switch 10 days ago. In fact, OpenSignal is my BIGGEST user of data during these past 10 days as evidence I have made so many speed tests, with well over 1 GB of data usage for that app alone for performing speed tests.
While I have had 1 or 2 speed tests that had upload/download speeds near 1 Mbps, I believe that is simply due to the location of the speed test as a subsequent speed test less than a minute later in a location a short distance away was at a much more reasonable speed. Out of the 100+ speed tests I have made, I would estimate over 90% of these tests were for download speeds of 20+ Mbps with more than a few tests exceeding 100+ Mbps. I was so surprised with this speed the first time I saw it that I took a screenshot of it:
Not once has my data speed prevented my phone from streaming audio without ANY buffering. Not once has my data speed prevented my phone from streaming video without ANY buffering problems. No spinning circle during playback during any of the times I have attempted streaming. I will give you that I have only streamed video for a total of around 1 hour, but I stream audio over an hour a day on my commute to/from work, once around 6AM when I would not expect any re-prioritization and once around 4 PM when I would expect some re-prioritization. The speed test from above with download speeds of 100+ Mbps was taken when I was ALSO steaming music AND was taken at 4:12 PM during my commute when I would expect the possibility of re-prioritization IF that was how Verizon was choosing to treat ALL unlimited data plans and not just the lower cost one which warns of that being a possibility regardless of how much data you have consumed instead of the one which states you have 22 GB of usage before re-prioritization is a possibility.
Bondtoo7,
We don't want you or your wife regretting. Help is here. Everything checks out in that area. Which Unlimited option are you on? How are voice and text services?

Hi Kati,
I am on the GoUnlimited plan. Even still, I wouldnt expect to go from 30.1Mbps to 0.58Mbps.
In regards to voice and text services, the voice quality is meiodcre. I used to get HD Voice level call quality, now it sounds as if I’m talking to someone on the old Motorola brick phones. I am using an iPhone 8 Plus, and the people I am calling are on at least an iPhone 7, so I know HD Voice is compatible.
Texts seem to not have an issue, maybe a slight delay, but nothing absurd.
Anything suggestions?

What is your basis for this expectation? On the gounlimited plan, Verizon states it can re-prioritize your data at ANY time the tower you are using is experiencing high traffic. This would result in a slower data speed.
And if you are measuring the data used by your phone's hotspot, THAT data is restricted to 0.60 Mbps at ALL TIMES, regardless of how much data you have used.
We definitely want you to be able to enjoy your service, Bondtoo7. It's very possible that based on the information you've provided earlier, you could be experiencing network management (prioritization) if the tower you're connecting to is congested. Let's dig into this a bit further. What times of day are you experiencing these speeds and poor HD voice quality? Are you having this happen indoors only, or outdoors as well? How far must you be from your location to see things improve?

I just switched from an unlimited plan from another carrier to Verizon's unlimited plan and now I can't get over 1Mbps most of the time. It's not due to signal strength as this picture shows.
As I just signed up with Verizon and only used <200MB this month, it's not from being throttled. I stopped by a Verizon store to have them look at it and the guy reset my network settings but that didn't help. I'm going to need to switch back to the other carrier because this is almost unusable.
I'm in the San Diego area but I was in Houston over the weekend and saw the issue there. One of my friends who also has Verizon doesn't have this issue but she's not on an unlimited data plan.
I've seen a lot of responses from Verizon technical support in this thread but I don't see anyone responding about the outcome of this being resolved. I'm hoping no one is responding since they fixed the issue.
Did you switch to the lower priced GoUnlimited or the higher priced BeyondUnlimited? If it was the lower priced plan, that may be the reason you are experiencing the slow data.
We definitely want you to stay with us for years to come Cliffart, welcome to our wireless family. We also want you to have the best possible wireless experience.
You indicate that you joined us with an unlimited data plan, and I would to clarify the depending on the plan you have your data may be subject to network management at all times.
If you have the Go Unlimited plan, network management can be implemented during times of cell site (tower) congestion, and data may be temporarily slower than other traffic. This is normal with your Go Unlimited plan (please confirm on number 1 at this link: https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/go-unlimited-faqs/).
If you have the Go Unlimited and you change to the Beyond Unlimited plan, data will be subject to network management until 22GB of fast LTE data have been used (please confirm on number 1 at this link: https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/beyond-unlimited-faqs/ ).
If you have the Go Unlimited plan you can change your plan online to the Beyond Unlimited if you login to your Verizon account on your computer, on the Verizon Mobile application on your phone.

Like I said before on a lot of these threads. I had the beyond unlimited plan and they were slowing my speeds down to below that of dial up connections. no matter what plan you get Verizon is being extremely dish with us. Until they fix thier net, the beyond unlimited is the same as go unlimite. Believe me I had the beyond unlimited and it was very slow and I was no where near the 22 GB mark.
I also have the BeyondUnlimited plan, nowhere near 22 GB of usage on my line and my speeds are quite speedy. The speed test I just took had a data speed of 20 Mbps and I have NEVER had a problem streaming music or video during the time I have had this plan.:smileyhappy:
My data has been slowed to 9 kb. I have consistent speed tests showing the only time data is anything near LTE is between the hours of 2 am -7 am (40mbs Download). The rest of the time it is non existent. Verizon staff has told me that they Have nothing they can do to help As i am in a high congestion area. I live in one of the most desolate regions in America, the Oregon outback. There are people here who don’t even have computers, let alone a verizon phone capable of LTE. I’d like an official response from Verizon as I have recorded responses telling me getting 0, zero, data is normal on they limited plan. I have been recording the speed test results for the past week and our speeds are purposely slowed to snail speeds during the day time. Verizon only provides fast data speeds, consistent with their advertising, during hours when people are generally asleep. We are being duped to pay for non existent service. If this continues, I will switch to US cellular which has consistently better reviews in my area.
I've been able to confirm with Verizon contractors at the tower sites that Verizon has begun updating the cell sites in my area and the entire southeastern US to be able to handle the unlimited data traffic on the network. Verizon and other carriers were not ready for the switch to unlimited and now they are trying to get their cell sites updated with the nessesry harware to handle all this data. That's why in some areas the data traffic was very slow because some of thier cell sites where not designed to work with the huge data amounts that unlimited plans bring. If you ready my other comments I say that my problem isn't everywhere, but it's in selected areas. My data speeds in my area have been fixed and it looks as if they should have all of their sites updated very soon.
I was just told by customer service that the unlimited data plan will be prone to slow internet and its basically something I'll have to get used to unless I upgrade to the beyond plan.
My internet speeds are terrible now.
