5G Home Internet fast on phone, but slow on PC (wired or WiFi)

I'm really frustrated here, and ready to give up. I have 5G Home Internet Plus. When I check the download speed from my phone, connected via Wifi, I get 300 Mbps download speed. When I test from my PC, whether wired (ethernet), or via WiFi, I get about 50. I put the phone in airplane mode and only turned on WiFi so it wasn't using the cellular network. There was a thread about wired connections and iPv6 checksum offload, etc. I tried that fix, and even got a different gigabit network card. Same issue. I disabled Norton firewall and auto-protect, but no difference. Any ideas as to why the PC would be so slow? Prior to Verizon, I had Cox, and got 300 meg down without a problem.

More information: I put a USB Wifi Adapter on the PC, and still get slow speeds. I updated the drivers for the ethernet card. I tried using my phone as a hotspot, basically sitting between the Verizon WiFi and the PC. Fast download on phone, slow on PC. Booted PC into Linux. Speed is fast.

So that points to Windows/drivers/settings. I don't know what else to try. I reset all network settings to defaults.

I have the same issue on Verizon 5G Home Plus.

I turn off cell service (airplane mode) on phone and use WiFi-only to test network speed near (within 3" to 5") laptops.

Get good speed (200Mbps) to phone but slow & laggy (5 to 10 Mbps) to laptops.

I'm not about to replace NICs or disable anti-virus on laptops when I formerly had good speed using Comcast/Xfinity WiFi with no issues to laptops.

You may be in luck. After messing around with this for a long time, I found TCP Optimizer from SpeedGuide. It changes your TCP/IP parameters in Windows to be the optimal ones for your connection. You can download it here: SpeedGuide.net :: TCP Optimizer / Downloads You can save your original settings before optimizing and you can also have it reset to Windows defaults. Once I ran it, my speeds got close to what the wireless speeds were.

Hmmm. Not sure what to suggest for that. It's frustrating that it sure seems to be a Verizon issue, but they just want to wash their hands of it. When I used that utility to tune my TCP/IP parameters, it changed about a dozen things. I tried narrowing it down to see if there was one parameter that had the biggest impact, but I wasn't able to find one.

Hey, have you tried moving the modem closer to a window and at a high place? For me, at the moment I have no issue with the speed either via Ethernet cable or WiFi on pc/phone. Though I gotta say I see a bit of a difference speed on pc than my phone. On my phone the speed is a slight faster by 15 to 20 mbps.

Overall I get 300 Mbps down on my phone and about 275-280mbps on my pc. Hope this helps!

I have the modem in the window with line-of-sight to a neighborhood Verizon 5G repeater literally 50 feet from the window. Thus the strong signal into the router.

It's the WiFi signal coming out that is in question. My phone appears to be measuring burst speeds for an instant and the laptops are measuring sustained, low speeds --which are inadequate for my application.

I'm now questioning sustainability of Verizon 5G Home Plus internet service in general because the laptop speeds return to normal (300 Mbps) late in the evening after neighborhood network demand drops off. It would be great to have a Service Level Agreement from Verizon on minimum speed but the service is sold on burst speed (300 Mbps). Which is good for marketing but turns out to NOT be effective for customer satisfaction.

Low speed during peak hours won't work for my home office. I'm fighting to find a solution but may have to go back to a cable provider for internet.
