ARC-XCI55AX problem

I have an ARC-XCI55AX router. I’m trying to connect a device that only operates on the 2.4  GHz band.

I’ve turned off SON and given the 2.4 GHz band a new SSID and password. The router refuses to broadcast on the 2.4 GHz band.

The Network Settings says that the 2.4 GHz band is disconnected. I don’t see anywhere to activate it.

I’ve tried asking on various Verizon Reddit boards. They sent me here.

Hello, ChiefCook2013. Thank you so much for this info and rest assured, help is here. Just want to confirm the steps taken to change the Verizon Internet device to 2.4 GHz.

The Verizon routers by default broadcast the same name for the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks. There is a feature called SON, or Self Organizing Network, which combines the two bands into one name, and steers devices between them to balance performance.

If you need to break apart the bands into separate names, log into your router, enter the Wireless settings (you may need to go into the Advanced settings for this), and disable SON / Self Organizing Network. Afterwards, the router should present two different network names for you. You might need to manually rejoin your devices to the 5Ghz band for performance since the names will be separated. The router should be reachable at http://192.168.1.1/ or by using the credentials printed on the bottom.

Alternatively, Verizon is deploying a new firmware to the routers which enables an "IoT" network. This broadcasts on 2.4Ghz only. You can try enabling that for devices which are having a hard time joining your combined network.

I tried turning off SON, but the 2.4 GHz band isn’t visible to my TV. I can see networks from neighbors on the TV though. And it sometimes sees the WiFi printer. Both the printer and router sit across the room. Everything else but the TV can see the 5GHz band.

i tried turning on IoT, but that network is invisible to all devices. These other devices see neighbor’s networks.

i did reboot the router both times after the changes.

Thank you for sharing everything you have already done, ChiefCook2013. While we know that all your other devices can see the 5Ghz network, do you have any other devices aside from the TV that only support 2.4 GHz network to see if they are able to view the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network at all? Just want to make sure we're ruling out anything that could be the root cause. What happens if you disable the 5GHz network on the router admin page?

If the 5GHz network is disabled, no device can see my network.

Since my TV picks up my neighbor’s networks, I assume they broadcast on the 2.4 GHz band. That’s the only band that the TV can see.
