Bill problem

Had problem with 5g internet had to return defective equipment  per Verizon boxes and shipping labels (gateway/extender) I have proof of delivery of both items but now I’m being charged $186 for equipment not returned. Made several calls to correct problem  can’t  get it resolved we are seniors and can’t afford paying for something that was retire to there site with documentation.  How far up the food chain do we have to go to get it resolved and bill corrected ?  Any help out there would be appreciated we need to get this resolved now.  By the way they always say they will back never happens . Been with Verizon for 25 years so much to loyalty to good customers.
