Hello, I have noticed a few things in my home network and I want to understand port forwarding to troubleshoot. My router is located in Fairfax County Virginia. For starters is there a list I can reference for default port forwarding set by Verizon? Thanks.

As the Verizon person mentioned - you'll want to give your router model number.
There isn't a default port forwarding - but UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) is turned on by default. This should do MOST forwarding that you need if your software/device supports it.
