Gateway internet so slow

  • Only 800-1200 kbps (yes,  we are watching the lowest standard def football game-- like in the 70s).  Yesterday customer service told me that the nearest tower had been updated but my gateway hadn't updated.  Rep supposedly rewrote code to update my gateway.  Over an hour on hold.  He told me that it would take a couple hours for the gateway to receive all the updates.  This morning, the Australian tennis open was live and was in high def (780 p). This afternoon, the football game is in 240p... not cool.  They will need to shut down the gateway to fix the issue which means we miss the game.  Anybody else in central Florida having the same problems?

As a side note: our phones updated 3 days ago... and internet slowdown began the next day

What is happening??

That is certainly not a fun way to watch some football, 20yrswithverizon. I know I would be concerned if my home internet was behaving the same way. The good news is you're in a great place for some support. I'd like to start by gathering some additional details. Can you share with me the nearest cross streets and city there in central Florida where this is happening? How is the data performance on your cell phones with Wi-Fi turned off? Aside from a recent update, has anything else changed before this started?

Our phones are slow here at Cantabria Drive and Del Webb Boulevard in Davenport.  And according to your colleague, there was some updating done on a tower near us. Said tower still isn't performing as it did a week ago because our television still doesn't have enough speed to play sporting events in HD.  It just took my phone over a minute to load my account in your Verizon app.
Beginning to wonder if I might need to make a call to frontier since their cables don't rely on cell towers.
What would you do if your Verizon Gateway home internet connection speed was less than 5 mbps, Joseph?

We want to make sure you get the best service possible, and we don't want you to leave the Verizon family. There's a few things that can be done at home to improve reception. Please give these a try and let us know if it works: https://www.verizon.com/support/knowledge-base-303197/
