New 5G Gateway - fast ethernet, slow WiFi

Just got my ARC-XCI55AX gateway. Plugged it in and it came to life quickly. I ran an ethernet line from the gateway to my desktop. Did a speed check and I constantly get 300 Mbps+. which is all we need (just my wife and me). However, doing a speed test with my phone/tablet on WiFi I only get 50 to about 70 Mbps -even if I am standing next to the gateway.  Watched TV (YoutubeTV, had a couple of dropouts).

I turned off my old WiFi just to make sure there was no interference. Also, if I turn off WiFi on my phone and do a speed test just using the cell tower, I routinely get 1 - 1.2 Gbps!!! Any ideas why the WiFi on this thing is so slow when the ethernet is consistently OK) and why the gateway doesn't get the same speed as my phone (Pixel 8). Tried both 2.4 and 5 - no difference.

OK, I figured out the 300 Mbps.  I didn't realize that Verizon offers two speeds - 100Mbps and 300Mbps.  I paid for the 300Mbps sop that's what I'm getting.

I got the ASK but did not have that issue.

Did you try separating the 2.4 and 5Ghz networks? I do that at my residence and connect to the 5Ghz if possible. It may be defaulting to 2.4, which would be about right for the numbers you are giving.  That'd be my first suggestion.

Second make sure you are using WPA2 or WPA3. If it's just phones and PC's and all your devices support WPA3, I'd use it but most older devices do not.

What's your signal strength for your 5G? There are times I get 300+ and times I do not, I don't want it to be coincidental.

Yes, I made sure I was connected to 5Ghz, although my problem is solved - sort of.  I have an Orbi mesh network in my house - One main router and two satellites.  I turned of the WiFi on the Verizon Gateway, and plugged it into my Orbi system and now I get around 300 Mbps all through the house.

This still doesn't answer why the I could only get 50-100Mbps using the Verizon WiFi and also doesn't explant why my phone is so much faster going directly to the tower - I just got 1,110 Mbps!

No matter, it works with the Orbi.  I'll run it through the test period and if all goes well I'll dump Xfinity.
