I’m reaching out here because I’ve encountered an issue with a wrongful debt collection mark from Verizon that has been reported on my credit. I’m hoping someone in the community or a Verizon rep can offer some guidance.
For context, I have used Verizon Fios wifi for 3 years, and had moved apartments in April. When moving, the building had said they weren't wired for Fios so I ordered a Verizon Internet Gateway. After 1 month, I learned that my building did support Fios, so I canceled my Internet Gateway and went back to the Fios wifi and returned the device a little over a month later but I had received confirmation that the device had been returend.
I was just hit with a $323 hit on my credit report for collections from Verizon for the internet gateway for which I have documentation that the device was returned. Whenever I call Verizon, I get redirected to Seqium Asset Solutions who is trying to get me to pay with the argument that it can get removed from my credit report after payment (which is clearly not true).
I've been an extremely happy Verizon customer for 3+ years and obviously want to remain so, but this has been a deeply disappointing experience. As someone who has had an 810 credit score for a better part of most of my life to have it drop by 150+ points by an incorrect charge that Verizon won't even let me call in to dispute is difficult.
I’m now hoping that sharing my situation here might lead to some support or additional avenues for resolving this issue. Has anyone else experienced something similar? Should I just dispute this directly with the credit agencies as I have the documentation that I do not owe $323 to Verizon?
Any advice on how to escalate this within Verizon or deal with the credit report impact would be greatly appreciated!
