Ex won't let me off his plan, Verizon won't help

My ex is the primary account holder on my account. He refuses to let me off it, presumably so he can still control me, have an excuse to maintain contact, and threaten to turn my service off, etc. I called Verizon and they said there was nothing they could do without his permission. I went into a Verizon store at another DA survivor's suggestion (she was able to get help) but the customer service rep was unsympathetic, refused to help, and would not even give me their manager's name. He told me to show up at a Verizon Corporate office and "beg someone." He told me my ex owns my number, and that for me to get my own account he needs to call Verizon and give Verizon permission for me to leave and establish my own account. I asked--what if I don't care about keeping my number, and I start a new plan, but this old plan is abandoned under my name with my information, would I still be liable for that legally and financially if my ex does decide to cut my service? That rep couldn't help me, he said he didn't know. I asked to talk to someone who did and he refused to give me his manager's name, or anyone else's name who could help me. I was so humiliated I cried. I don't know what to do. Can someone please help me?

I'm trying to get away from my ex but they are holding my number saying I owe them. I had moved my number from my mother's account to their account when we got together but are splitting ways and they don't want to give me my number back please help.

I need help with the same situation, please I have tried to contact verizon about this issue for several months. My exes mother is the account owner and I just need to transfer to my mother's verizon account. But my ex and her mother will not let me make the transfer.

Can someone send me a note? And the email associated with this profile is my exes email and I can't change it and I cannot have them recieve an email about this so I need to know what to do.

If you don't want emails getting sent out, make sure you turned off email notifications in your forum account, otherwise, you'll get notified any time a thread you participated in gets replies. You can also deselect the "email me when someone replies" box at the bottom of the reply area, but that's kind of a hassle and easy to forget.

I don't know the specifics of what happens if you get a new number in a completely separate account, if your ex decides to not pay the bill on your current line which is in a shared account, but it seems like with the other person being the account manager, don't they have to pay the bill until they decide to disconnect the line, and any outstanding balance would still go to them? Because that's what I've been seeing from others posting about other issues elsewhere in the forums.

May just be me, but I'd say getting a completely new number so an ex can't get a hold of it to control you isn't such a bad idea anyway. Wishing anyone who is in such a situation the best of luck and may you have support from your loved ones and friends.

I am having a similar situation between me and my ex-wife. I transferred my number onto her Mom's Verizon plan, but she will not release that number and transfer it to my own plan. I have had Verizon call her mother and my ex-wife to transfer my number but they are not answering and not allowing the transfer. Every time I have called Verizon support they have told me that they need their authorization to transfer my number onto my account, but in this case is there anything else that can be done. Please help, I would like my old phone number back.

update. I just got off the phone with verizon support, and they said my old phone number has been blocked on my ex-wifes account. So without their authorization, verizon was not able to do anything to transfer the old phone number onto my account.

In order for us to be able to transfer a line from one account to another, an account manager or account owner needs to provide us with their consent before the service can be moved over. There are exceptions that can be made in cases of domestic violence.

For reference, for anyone who needs to know.In my case , it was a situation of domestic violence and I had to provide verizon with police reports in order to get my phone moved on to its own plan and keep my number. After I sent the paperwork into them.It was a pretty smooth process from there. I don't know any other policies that they have but.. .
