I will surmise you downloaded the My Verizon app from the QR code, but the "start free trial" thing doesn't work. Setting up the free trial has changed since the last time I saw it on the website. It's possible you're not eligible for some reason, or your phone isn't compatible. Fine print in the FAQs say if the activation fails or some other tech issue occurs, then the free trial automatically ends. 😞 You could always ask your neighbors or friends who live nearby to see how well Verizon works in your area. There are apps which give you an approximation of how well all the carriers perform in a location, but it's been my experience they aren't always completely accurate.
I'm not a Verizon employee, just another customer trying to help.
