Does Verizon perform a hard credit inquiry when ordering home Internet and a VoIP phone line?

I would like to switch from Optimum to Verizon for my home Internet and one VoIP phone line.  But I am hesitant to switch because I don't want a hard credit inquiry.  I have nearly a perfect credit score and have had Optimum for probably more than 25 years and never had a late payment.  But I hate these inquiries on my credit report and probably won't switch if they are going to do that.

Please only respond if you are sure of the answer.  Thanks for an informed response.

Well, you did say only reply if you are sure of the answer.  It's probably not a clear cut, one-size-fits all answer.  It may depend on an individual's business history with Verizon, the type of service being purchased, and probably other factors.  So, the best way to find out if they will do a hard-pull for you is to ask them.  Have you tried that yet?

In addition, I'm not sure why you're so concerned about a single hard-pull.  A single hard-pull is usually only a short-term, few point hit on one's credit score; assuming everything else is good.   It usually takes multiple hard-pulls to make a significant impact on your credit score.  If you haven't had other hard-pulls recently; say form a mortgage, auto loan, or new credit card; you should be fine.  If you never want hard-pulls on your credit report, you're severely limited your financial options.  There are lots of resources online to help you understand the impact of hard pulls.  Here's one from Experian that may help you:

It's a national security secret?  I  guess no one but Verizon knows. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
