New version of message app

My tablet downloaded and installed the latest version of the message app from Verizon. Is there anyway to configure the screen to REMOVE recent contacts from the display ? It is just a duplication of my text messages.

Is it possible to revert to the older version ?

Verizon Messages just updated to v. 6.0.8 and the split screen is gone ... wahoo! :smileyhappy:

We are so happy that you have reached out to us here, because help is our middle name! Let’s roll up our sleeves to get this fixed for you ASAP. What make & model tablet do you have? When did this problem start to happen with it showing duplicate texts? Does it show duplicate texts that you are receiving as well as duplicate texts you are sending?

To answer your question about going back to the previous version. You will check in the Play Store & open the app page, you should see an option to uninstall update. Many times you wouldn’t want to do that, but it could be a temporary fix until the next update to the app comes out. Please keep us posted on this.

Thanks for getting back to me I am running it on my Asus table (ME173X) with Android Version 4.2.2

The display looks something like the attached image. I would like to suppress the recent contacts since it is a duplication of the phone numbers displayed in message list.

The screen shot shows you are using Chomp SMS, not the Verizon Messages app - or are you suing both? Choose one as the default and see if that resolves the duplicate listing?

I've seen a similar 'split screen' when using Verizon Messages on a tablet after the latest update (and no other text apps installed), and have noticed several others have posted with the same question, but no answer as of yet, unfortunately. I've yet to find a setting that allows it to be turned off, and it's very annoying ... to the point that I may uninstall the latest update.

I agree with you tikibar1 I have only seen it on my Android Tablet ( I also have it installed on an IPAD but I do not think it has been updated yet) It is annoying and I would love to disable it.

I just tried uninstalling the updates and then reinstalling, in the hopes that it was a quirk during installation, but it was a no-go ... the annoying thing is still the same way it was before. And I hate it.

Yeah, I had my tablet on airplane mode and when I enabled the wifi all the apps updated, and now I've got that split screen. Individual convos show up on the right side when you tap the contact on the left, but the initial view is two columns of basically the same contact list/message list. I can't seem to adjust the width of either side, and no way to disable. This is an enhancement that isn't...I've liked Messages+ but this will take some getting used to. I like having the full screen convo, the split view is, well, awkward.

So, who do we complain to so we can at least have the option of the new or old view?

aliem_vzw - would you please review this thread and others regarding this 'split screen' and consider reverting back to the 'old view' whenever the app is updated (or at least provide the option to choose which view we prefer)? Thanks.

Or consider making the "split" sizable, so you can drag the split to the left or right as you would like. I can see where the split might make it a bit easier to have two text convos at once, but I prefer the larger window for the conversation, and I really don't need the whole list of recent contacts taking up half the screen. :smileyhappy:

Thank you for your comments and feedback on the split screen design. There is not 'fix' because it is a UI design, and clearly not a beloved one... :smileysad:

We hear you and we will be updating it so you have other options. I do not know exactly when the design will be updated, but if your app is set for 'auto update', it will auto update on its own. Thank you as always for your feedback.
