I have a droid x and my upgrade is soon. I am considering switching to an iphone. Would this be a good choice or more of a personal choice?

Switched from a Droid X and never looking back, Droid was nice but always seemed a ittle buggy. Iphone is smooth as silk, plays nice with my Macbook and there are apps for everything (and hopefully without virus's).

Depends on what you want to do with your device really..at this point it might be worth holding out for 3-4 months and see if the Iphone 5 drops this summer

It'll drop, but it won't be for Verizon if it does come out.  Next year is when you are looking.

As for Droid X and regretting the switch...  Personally the iPhone has better battery life than ANY Android device I have owned.  It averages 3-4 hours longer on a heavy usage day and nearly 80% longer on those light usage days(8am-10pm).  There have been days where nothing goes on and by the time I come home I still have 80%+ battery life.  I'd be lucky to be at 40% with any of my Androids.  That's the only reason why I made the switch.

How do you know they will not get the iphone 5,a lot of people think his is one of the reasons why thet are dropping unlimited data plans,so unlless you have solid proof either way i wouldnot be so sure of this statment or any other.

Just look at the release dates of all the iPhones across the world.  It's always 11-13 months from the date they released the previous version in that country.  Verizon just joined the list.  Also Apple isn't stupid enough to spend R&D money just to redo the 4 for Verizon then 3 months later roll out with another version.  They'd lose money.

They'd make money, people would ditch their i4's left and right to get a new i5.

They'd lose customers rather than gain. Just look at the complaints everytime a new iPhone came out for AT&T. People cried for upgrades. Nobody is going to dish out $800+ in 3 months after purchasing a phone. Wishful thinking I think.

I have had the iphone for one month and switched from the droid x. The only thing I miss 100% is the notification light. I was missing the drop down task bar but as I learn the iphone that isn't so much a big deal. I like how Facebook works on droid a little better then the iphone. But I do NOT miss the size, the freezes, the battery life(or lack of )of the droid x. I love everything else about the iphone4 and glad I made the switch. I used this thing really hard Saturday due to being stuck inside and battery lasted all day. It hit 20 % when I was ready to shut it down for the night.  Make the switch run it 14 days and decide yourself

So you would cancel your iphone 4 plan because an iphone 5 came out? And change to a different carrier and pay an ETF?

I SWITCHED TO IPONE4S JUST TO TRY. IVE BEEN A HUGE DROID RAZR FAN AND LOVE THE ANDROID SYSTEM. WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE OS7 UPGRADE ON IPHONE IS THE SCREEN RESOLUTION AND CAMERA QUALITIES. EVEN THOUGH THE SCREEN IS SMALLER I CAN READ IT EASIER. PLUS I GOT THE IPHONE FOR ONLY A 100.00 FROM A FRIEND. WORTH A TRY. THE DROID HAS SOME FEATURES THAT THE IPHONE DID NOT HAVE SO IN COMES THE I0S7 SOFTWARE UPDATE WHICH BRIDGED THAT GAP. STILL LOVE DROID THO AND WILL PROBABLY SWITCH BACK AND FORTH OVER THE NEXT TWO YEARS. JUST KINDA HOW I ROLL...

I am glad you asked this question trucougar. I have a Droid X and I was wondering the same thing.

My nephew has a Droid X, and I've compared both phones back to back I much prefer the iPhone to the droid x, I don't know if it's worth $200 to switch though. It's a nice phone, but the Droid can essentially do the same things the iPhone does, just with worse battery life, and a larger screen. Hope that helps some.

Glad you posted this. My upgrade is next week and I couldn't decide between the iPhone and a Droid OS phone. I'm now convinced the iPhone is the way to go. Originally I was hesitant because of the antenna problem users were having with the iPhone, but that problem appears to have been solved.  I'll get the iPhone.

Would you get bent out of shape if the 5 came out next year and you had to pay more for the people who bought the 4?
Just look at the outcry. Most people would have not bought the next generation if they didn't get the subsidized price. A lot of people actually moved on because they had to wait 3 months after the release of the 3G because they waited to buy the iPhone 3 months later. You really need to go to the Earlier pages of AT&T iPhone board.
Personally I will stick with the 4 and wait for the 6. The 5 won't have anything over the top special. Everyone who follow the trends knows it.

Nope, if the 5 came out so be it, I KNEW going into this that it could and might, but I wanted the 4 so I got it. Tough shnikes to me if I can't afford to get the 5 because I'm not due for an upgrade. I have read and understand my contract.

If you have a Droid X, or ANY Android, these are some of the pros and cons of going to the Iphone 4.  Cons-Iphone 4 is much less customizable(unless you jailbreak it).  Iphone 4 has less free apps, and free ways up putting apps on your device.  Iphone 4 has a subpar notification system with a subpar alerts customization ability.  It also sucks not having adobe flash anymore. Oh yeah, and having to use Itunes for media management really sucks compared to being able to just drop and drag, and being able to use a memory card.

Pros-Iphone 4 has a much more unified ui/os, with smoother operation, less glitches(random reboots, force closes, etc).  Also, Iphone 4 has better battery life than any Android device that I've used or seen.  The Iphone also has more apps, and usually higher quality apps than android.  Another great thing is, just as you can customize an Android phone by rooting, you can do many of the exact same things by jailbreaking your Iphone, but it will probably cost more.

For me, I've been team Android since the OG' Droid, but after seeing force closes, random reboots, other weird glitches, and poor battery life, with every Android phone that I've ever used, (Droid, Droid Incredible, Droid X, HTC Evo, Samsung Fascinate, Motorola Atrix, and Motorola Xoom), I had to give the Iphone 4 a shot, and it's much better than previous Iphone models in my opinion, and now, after jailbreaking it, I don't miss Android at all.  Oh yeah, and for those that need occasional adobe flash for website browsing, try Puffin on Iphone.  Its not the best browser, but it gets the job done to display flash web content, and sound.

What a great post. You have summed it up in a nutshell. Are you at all familiar with the iPhone antenna problem as reported in Consumer Reports, and if so, is it enough of a reason not to get an iPhone4 ?

Depends who you ask.  My wife and I do not have this problem AT ALL, but the one thing I did notice my mother WILL have this problem.  I think it's more of a biological thing than an iPhone 4 thing.  Some people will have more electrical charge on their extremidies than other people.  Did you know 2% of the human population can't use touch screens at all while 5% will have their touchscreen be super sensitive?  Best option is to try it out in store and see if you have a problem.  If you don't take it home and if it gives your problems return it.  Don't hold onto it and complain about it.  You have an option to get away.

Thanks.  I'm familiar with that problem on At&t Iphone 4's, however, I've yet to see it on mine, my wife's, or my mother's Iphone 4 with VZW.  I saw that Consumer Reports said that about the VZW Iphone as well, but various other companies tested the VZW Iphone 4, and they didn't notice this issue.  Most reliable reports suggest that the issue is mostly non-existant on the VZW Iphone, or that it at least happens a lot less.
