I have noticed in the last few weeks that my phone starts humming or buzzing in my ear during calls. It sounds like interference but i have no equipment that would cause the problem. What is going on?
Irishpms, that could be anything did the iPhone take a hard drop, or maybe an App running such as a game App when the call is received? What I would try is, Go into Settings > General > Accessibility - and scroll down to Phone Noise Cancellation and turn it ON and maybe Mono Audio also. Just to see if that might help alleviate the humming or buzzing.
Thank you for the response. I do have a life case but have not dropped the phone. I already had the noise cancellation on, but have turned on the Mono Audio.
I have read in other forums that this type of problem is not new. My phone is only a year old and this just started so i was hoping for something more definitive.
I think it would be very difficult to pinpoint the exact cause. It's certainly not a wide spread issue with iPhones. I have the iPhone 6s Plus and over the first weekend it was released they sold 13 million just in the US.
I tend to first focus on simple causes such as settings or software. There are way too many iPhones returned for the slightest reasons that could be resolved, you see it time and again here at this forum where people are told, just return the iPhone.
You have a good post with a legitimate issue that deserves attention. It could very well be a defective speaker hardware issue. I guess Apple warranties for 1 year and maybe you may have insurance that may cover. Hopefully someone may come in with more advice.
Irishpms, I can imagine dealing with a buzzing noise is not ideal during a phone call. I want us to work together to get this buzz to stop. Have you recently made any changes to your iPhone? Is the iOS up to date? Also does this occur when using a Bluetooth?

well i read about this problem thru older posts/forums. I have had Iphones for years with nothing like this happening. I bought this phone about a year ago and have not had any issues until recently. I agree that it may be something simple.. but since i am somewhat a geek.. i have gone thru all of my setting looking for an answer.. maybe it is just [removal required by the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service] because i was eyeing the new Samsung..
Give this a look as it saved me a lot of time and frustration as my device was make random crackling sounds, occasional squealing and buzzing sounds. This was all apparent on my end but not on the other end of phone calls. Once I did this, problem was resolved. Verizon has "HD" voice on by default. If you have LTE turned on and are in a marginal error these issues will occur.
I immediately logged into My Verizon account on-line and looked under my line of service ...... Tab to "manage products and apps"....look for free apps tab..... Once there look for Advanced calling( previously know as HD voice)..... See if this feature is turned on for your line.... In most cases it's set by default to be on. if so, Turn this feature OFF for your'e line....... Save changes .... Log out of My Verizon......... Wait 15 mins for VZW system to update..... After 15 mins.... Reboot you're phone or reset network settings..... I actually did both..... Afterwards problem was solved..... Vzw should know how to do this but don't. Found this to work thru months of personal trouble shooting measures. If you're in a fringe area for LTE , and this Advanced calling feature is turned on for your line # you will have dropped calls like crazy. I personally have switched LTE off on my phone after doing the above with no issues sinc
I went to my Verizon but I do not have the HD calling on my phone.
