they've done away with the $15 plan and will do away with the $30/unlimited plan in the near future.

Ya, that's what I figured, and the "or higher" is probably a data+tethering plan. too bad they are getting rid of unlimited data, and capping it like AT&T, I really thought that was what was going to give them a huge advantage over AT&T, since a lot of people complained about not having unlimited data.

It will still give them the advantage. You arent gonna lose your unlimited data when they get rid of it, it just means anyone that doesnt already have it will not be able to get it. They are probably doing this to counteract all the "well Ill just wait for the iphone 5" lol. The people that wait for the iphone 5 will then be griping cause they cant have unlimited data.

Ya, but there are still a lot of people in a contract with AT&T, that probably would like to move to Verizon when their contract is up, but if they get rid of their Unlimited Plan, it will look less desirable to switch. But your right we won't lose our unlimited data plans because we got them before they got rid of them.

I have seen posted elsewhere, ATT is quietly offering unlimited data if requested on an iPhone.

If verizon decides on changing thee data plan in the near future does that mean,

1) it will only change after the current customers contract ends?

2)since it is a change from verizons side on contracts, does that mean we can all cancel our contracts early without penalty since Verizon is changing the terms of the contract?

3)Or will the data plan just change and we have to deal with it?

If you have the unlimited data plan before they get rid of it, you will NEVER lose it as long as you don't mess with it (cancel your account, switch data plans, etc.). This is why some people have really old minute plans because they never switched over to one of the new ones and Verizon never said they had to. However, one thing Verizon could do would be to make you switch your data plan when you upgraded to a new phone after this iPhone 4, but they normally don't do this.

When AT&T got rid of their unlimited data plan, everyone who was previously a AT&T customer and had the unlimited data plan got grandfathered in. This will probably be the same with Verizon.

When you say grandfathered in, that just means they got to keep it forever as long as they didn't mess with it, right? Or does that mean they got to keep it until they tried to get a new phone/new 2 year contract?
