E-mail not able to use my netzero acc.

I have both yahoo and net zero e-mails the yahoo works fine but when I set up the the netzero I do the first part of it and when i go to next it is asking me for imap or pop? incoming mail server info?and out going mail server? so i put what i think is correct which is probable wrong!! then hit save and it comes up with ssl failed. i have tried both the imap and pop didn't matter so if anyone could help i need it lol PS. the netzero is blablabla@netzero.net if that matters which should not because i had them on my blackberry with no problem!!!!!!!

you'll have to find netzero's incoming server, outgoing servers, ports, etc.

I am in the same boat here. I have just switched to the iPhone. I had everything working fine with my BB with Netzero and gmail. Now I've made the switch, and gmail is working just fine (because it has a special setup in the main menu for gmail, yahoo, aol...). Netzero falls under the "other" category. I have tried every possible configuration I can imagine, but nothing works. I keep coming up with the SSL error message. I hit continue, but nothing happens. I've gone to the Netzero site for help--Nada. I would love to say goodbye to this account, but it is the only account that has remained constant in my life for the past 10+ years, and I cannot simply change it. Please advise. I'm certain the solution is simple, but I am SIMPLY not seeing it. :smileyhappy: Thanks in advance for your time and patience.

...and there was much rejoicing!!!! Thank you soooooo much! (geez, it's the little things in life, eh?) I'm back up and running, so I may just keep the iPhone... Now if only I can find a way to video chat with my Deaf clients who do NOT have iPhones, I will be positively EXTATIC!

I have three email accounts set up on my Iphone, and one of them is a netzero account. I went through a LOT of frustration getting the Netzero account to work, and I just want to make a couple points here and get this down in writing for others (and myself if I ever have to do this again).

First off, if your trying to set up a Netzero account, make sure any other computers you have are not currently logged onto that account. Shut off any email applications, like Outlook on any PC's that get email off the Netzero server. You may also have to be logged off for a period of time before you are able to set your Netzero account on your phone. I think this is some sort of securtiy setting on their server that doesn't allow multiple log on's to the same account at the same time.

Second. I had zero luck setting up my Netzero account when I was connected to WiFi (ATT). It only worked for me when I was using the 3G Verizon connection. I don't know why, but as soon as I shut off WiFi and did the setup will on the 3G Network, it worked fine.

Third. There is some confusion about user names. Some places tell you to use your entire email address like JoeT@netzero.com in the user name block, and other places (namely the Netzero help page) tell you to only use the user name like JoeT with nothing after it. I found it worked for me with just the short name WITHOUT the email address at the end. Also, make note that I use my email address as netzero.com (NOT netzero.net). Same for the POP server and SMTP server. I don't know if it will accept netzero.net, but netzero.com works, so use that everywhere.

Fourth. I have NOT yet be able to find ANY configuration settings that work with SSL turned on for either the incoming or outgoing servers. I've tried port 995 for incoming and 465 for outgoing with SSL enabled, and they won't work for me.

Though I have not been able to get those settings to work.

Fifth: You can't even get to the advanced settings to input the port numbers on the iPhone without first getting the account set up, and if the account fails to "Verify" during the set up phase, then you can't even get to the settings for ports to try to change them. So you end up in a vicious cycle. The only way I was able to break out of this was to log on using 3G and then input just the basic user name, email address, and password and let it "Verify" Once it verifies, THEN you can go into SETTINGS for MAIL and play with the ADVANCED tabs and try different ports. I also found that previous failed attempts at setting up the account were causing problems with the phone and I had to reboot the iPhone just to get the other email accounts back into a working state.

Sixth: Here are the only settings I have found to work, and they are the ones that got set by default when I did the above fifth step and let it auto set up my account.

Server Port : 587

And finally, if anyone figures out how to use NETZERO with SSL enabled, PLEASE post the settings you used, because I have been unable to get it to work.

I hope this helps anyone who's having problems. It took me two days to get mine set up so it worked.
