Help me figure out the cheapest way to get the 5.

So here's my story. I got a 4S last year but I want the 5 and obviously do not have an upgrade yet.

So I've been thinking about my options, what if I upgrade at full price? What will happen to the 4S? Can I sell it off and finance some of the cost?

So far this seems to be the cheapest way, but I am not familiar with selling a Verizon phone in a marketplace. After the upgrade do I just sell it and the buyer can activate it with his connection? Or will it somehow be tied to my account?

For you the cheapest way would be htis.

1. Open new line and get iPhone at subsidized price

2. Sell your 4S for about 350-375 on ebay (granted it is in good condition)

3. Have Verizon put a "dummy" phone on your account so you can sell your 4s.

You will pay 9.99 per month extra for the added line which equals 240.00.

Here is a quick example:

New iPhone 5 -- 199.00 (16GB)

2 Yrs paying 9.99 -- 240.00

Total -- 440.00

minus -- 350.00 (selling iPhone on Ebay)

Total cost - 90.00

I do not recommend what Maria from Verizon is suggesting. You will get the least amount of money for your phone this way. Verizon wants you to fall for this program (notice how they ship the new phones with return packaging for you old device?). They turn around and make money on them or use them as refurbished, etc.

Stick with selling it on eBay, Craigslist, etc.
