How do I stop receiving spam and blocked email addresses on my cell phone through the email app?

How do I stop receiving spam and blocked email addresses on my cell phone through the email app?
  On my computer all blocked or spam email gets dumped into a separate folder for easy deletion, but on my phone ALL of it ends up in my inbox daily.  Is there something to stop this?
