I can't text my boyfriend, why?

I just got a brand new iphone 4 phone from my friend (not even used, she got iphone 5 from her boyfriend so gave me this). I'm on a family plan, in which my boyfriend and I are on together. He's an android, however. I can text everybody else but him. Don't bother asking me if I could call him still - I do not call because I am Deaf, it's pointless for me to. I tried deleting his contact information and previous, attempted messages. I tried eliminating the +1 thing in the phone number. Nothing works. I still get the exclamation mark, informing me that the text did not get through. Help.

You dial *228 then hit send so it calls that number, it will reach an automated system which is where you then press 1 on the dialpad. If I'm not mistaken it will show on the screen what's going on while it does it.

are any of the other people you're texting successfully have androids?

You can try going to settings->general->reset->reset network settings and see if that helps.

Actually, no. I tried texting the other person on the family plan, my boyfriend's best friend, andriod. Doesn't work. Also noted when I resetted the network, after that, I get the 3G thing on then it changes back to a small circle. Maybe this is why?

I'm wondering if your phone has data connectivity right now but no regular service which would prevent calls and sms that aren't going through data. Dial *228, option 1 from the phone and I believe it should display programming succesful when it's done then turn it off and back on and try texting to the android users again. If it doesn't display it on the screen then I would try getting someone who can listen to it to assist you.
