How do I go about the free iPhone 6 with old iPhone trade in? Do I do this in stores? Do I trade in my old one before I preorder? Do I wait until they are available in stores? Can anyone explain this whole process to me?
Thanks so much for asking! We knew this would be a hot topic. Don't trade in your phone before you get a new phone. We don't want you to be phoneless. You can accomplish with with pre-orders as well as upgrading in the stores. Beginning on 9/12, for a limited time, customers can trade-in an iPhone 4, 4s, 5, 5c, and 5s from any carrier with the purchase of a new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus and receive a $200 gift card (iPhone 4, 4s, 5, 5c) or $300 (iPhone 5s).This can be done at the store or you can submit for the device trade in online at http://vz.to/17tYyaN. It is imperative that you disable Find My iPhone http://vz.to/1wwKZbR prior to trading the phone in to us to ensure that you get the proper trade in amount. The trade-in Apple iPhone must be in good working condition based on Verizon Device Recycling Program requirements: • Phone can turn on and off. • LCD screen is free of cracks and functioning correctly. • Phone and connecting ports are free of visible corrosion and water damage. • Battery is present. • Phone and charging port are free of cracks and dents, and are not missing any pieces or chunks (not including cords or accessories). • For iPhones running iOS 7 or higher, the Find My iPhone feature must be deactivated (turned off) before iPhone is traded in. -Tamara
My guess is that you buy your new iPhone 6 (paying the discounted price), then you would send your trade-in phone to Verizon after activating your new phone. You will then receive your $200 gift card the website says about 2 weeks later.
Good luck
Do you have the link to that info?
Since he stated it was a "guess" I would "guess" not.
I had seen it in a Verizon web page yesterday but that page appears to have been removed (or changed). If I find it I will post.
Is the trade in program only for new customers/customers with an upgrade currently avalaible?
Should I not set up the trade in online until the pre orders are open? And can I still trade my old iPhone in even if its not active on the account? And this is not just for new customers, correct?
We appreciate the question, Deltaxi1867! The trade in program for the iPhone 6 is eligible for: • New customers • Existing customers • Port-in • Upgrade • Add-a-line TamaraH_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
It says this on channel 7 news article
Free iPhone 6 from Verizon...what's the catch?
The iPhone 6 won't go on sale until Friday morning, Sept. 19.
But already, the nation's second largest carrier for iPhones, Verizon, is offering it to customers free.
If you qualify, you won't have to pay the standard $199 with a 2-year contract.
What's the Catch?
To get a new 4.7" iPhone 6 free, Verizon says you need to trade in a working iPhone 4 or 5 model (4, 4S, 5, 5S, 5C), and sign a new 2-year contract with Verizon.
If you do that, Verizon will give you a $200 gift card, which makes the new phone free. (It also makes the even bigger iPhone 6 Plus just $99).
Can anyone tell me what this means and how it works?
I have a question. If I want to trade in my iPhone 5 for the $200 toward the iPhone 6. How does the timing work? will the trade in promotion work on September 19th, if I go to the store to trade in the 5 for the 6? will there be an option when you preorder to say you're trading in your old iphone?
thank you
The article fails to mention that you have to have an upgrade available. I was all excited to be able to get a new phone but my upgrade is not available until October 2015. I would pay the $199 to get it with new contract if that is an option. Customer Service rep are you there?????
Thanks!

see post above from Vzn support - they explain it pretty well. And what you posted also explains it. Trade-in an iphone, get $200 giftcard - which would cover the $199 cost of the iphone6.
But it says If you qualify, you won't have to pay the standard $199 with a 2-year contract
to qualify...
1) be currently eligible for an upgrade
2) purchase the iphone6 for $199
3) sign a new 2 yr contract
4) have an iphone to trade-in - trade it in after or during purchase of iphone6
Do all of that and you will receive a Verizon give card for $200.
Net cost of new iphone6 $Free
I have a crack on the back of my iPhone 4s, will this affect it? Also, you pay for it then you get a $200 giftcard? Can the giftcard still be applied to purchase of the phone?
Physical damage will negate the trade in amount to zero.
My upgrade isn't till February 28, 2016 How does that work and how much is the discount gonna be if I was to upgrade at Best Buy Mobile inside of Best Buy or at a Verizon Wireless store?
I was hoping I could get the iPhone 6 for free if I'm an existing Verizon Wireless customer and could transfer my current sim into the new iPhone 6 by keeping the same cell number.
Your only option is full retail price, Becky.
Since the gift card is received after the purchase of the new iPhone, how does it offset the price? Is the giftcard for a future purpose. I'm just confused because we wont have the actual gift card for the preorder.
So according to this, I do NOT have to be eligible for an upgrade to get the offer if I am an existing costumer I can still qualify? My upgrade isn't until November
I've been reading articles that this trade-in is only good for the 16gb iPhone 6, I planned on getting the 64gb. Can I get the gift card towards that?
I have read through all the posts on this thread and did not see my question answered so here goes..... I am eligible for an upgrade. I have an iphone 4s that has been in an otterbox since I got it so it is perfect condition. Can I pre-order my iphone 6 / 6plus tomorrow for the $199 cost and then once it arrives (hopefully the 19th) take my new phone as well as current 4s directly to my local VZW store and have them run the trade-in transaction to confirm the $200 gift card to be mailed and then take care of activating my iphon6 and transferring everyone over? When pre-ordering will I have an option to say I am going to trade-In my old phone but will do that in store as opposed to mail-in once the new one arrives.
Thanks in advance!
If the gift card is not available for weeks after trade in, how is this a free iphone 6? What can the gift card be used for because it cannot be used to pay for the iphone 6 if that is the case. If you do an instore trade-in will the gift card be issued immediately? Do you have to trade in and upgrade at the same time (wait for gift card to upgrade and reactivate older phone in the meantime) ? Doesn't seems like that great of a deal if you can only use it to pay for overpriced in store accessories. Can it be used to at least pay your monthly bill? Hopefully that can be cleared up because the advertising of a FREE Iphone 6 has the potential to be extremely misleading.
Verizon CSR,
How does this offer work for someone who is currently 1 year into their 2 year contract (not an EDGE Customer)? I have a 32 iPhone 5s and I would like to upgrade to the 64 iPhone 6. I would really like specifics about trade in and pricing, cost to upgrade, do I extend my 2 year contract to a 3 year contract? etc.
Thank you,
Good questions rs8005. Our information is limited as the pre-order date has not yet approached. However, in the past anytime you do a trade in, in the store it is immediate. If it's done online, you will receive a gift card that can be used towards your balance. So if you bill the phone to the account, you would apply the gift card and then you have your free phone. Keep an eye out on our website as the date gets closer! We are just as excited as you are!ErinW_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
I know this is an exciting device dasme, and a lot of people want to get it right away! If you have a line that's not eligible for an upgrade but really wants this awesome new phone, you do have the option of full retail or even possibly Early Edge http://vz.to/1fgoBWC. (You're not able to extend your contract from the current one year remaining, to three years.) To see what the value of your current device(s) is towards the purchase of your next phone, visit www.vzw.com/tradein. Pricing and promotional offers may change at any time, so keep your eyes on those sites and www.vzw.com/iphone .Thank you,VanessaS_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
Since pre-orders start tonight, I think this is a pretty important thing that Verizon needs to get figured out now.
I personally am planning on pre-ordering a 128 GB Phone 6+, and paying full price for it. I need a 100% straight answer on whether or not I am going to be able to trade in my old iPhone 4 and get $200 for it. If not then I will most likely go somewhere else to make my purchase, and possibly drop down to the 64GB model.
It would also be nice to get a straight answer on if I will have to mail my iPhone 4 in if I pre-order and sign up for the trade in online, or if I can take it to my local Verizon store and get the gift card/credit right away.
Vanessa. Can you purchase the new phone anywhere and then apply for the trade in after and get the $200 credit?

It amazes me that people ask this question. Verizon is promising a trade-in value on the purchase of a new iPhone. If you don't make that purchase with Verizon, then why would they offer you a promised trade-in value. The KEY word here is "trade" as in I give you one thing and you give me another. If you make the purchase SOMEWHERE ELSE, the statement becomes I give you one thing and you don't.
When you purchase a car at a dealership, do you find the dealership with the BEST trade-in value and then go purchase the car somewhere else and STILL expect the dealership to honor that trade-in value without making the purchase??? I don't think so.
++ Beerstalker 's question!!
Would also to know the answer to question #2, if we opt to trade in, can we go to the store to swap out devices, thus getting the gift card on site. Instead of 2 weeks later? I don't want to have an outstanding balance on my account for 2-3 weeks.
There hasn't been a straight forward answer for the $200 gift card and what it can be used for. I plan on signing up as a new customer. My wife and I have an iPhone 4s each. They are unlocked. That means they are eligible for the $200 gift card. But when you sign up online, it says that there is an amount you owe now (using 5s as an example) which would be $198 for 2 iPhone 5s. It doesn't look like you can have them bill you this amount.
So with the new iphones, it will be $199 each phone or $400 for two. I'm guessing I will have to pay that right away and at a later date get the gift card for my other phones. Can I just take these phones into a store and be issued a GC right away once I get the new phones and more importantly, WHAT can this gift card be used for? If it is only for accessories and in store Verizon purchases, this doesn't do me any good. Can it be used to apply to my cell phone bill? Will the $200 per phone still be active when I get the new phones or better yet, how long will that offer stand?
The only reason I am considering switching is the $200 deal per phone. So if I cannot use it because it expires too soon or because the gift card cannot be used for a cell bill payment, then I am not interested.
I talked to Verizon customer service a few days ago and asked about this. He said it is a Visa gift card that Verizon sends you and you can use it for anything you would buy with a Visa card.
As it was explained to me, first you buy the new iPhone 6 or 6 Plus from Verizon, at the full Verizon price, and sign up with a new 2-year commitment with Verizon. Then you trade in your old phone. Then in a couple of weeks they send you the gift card. You might be able to do all of this in the store at the same time but I'm not sure.
There are no contracts/commitments when you pay full price for any device.
Contracts, at less than full price lock you into a contract or commitment.
Good Luck
I don't know why they just don't say a "Verizon Visa gift card" or a "Visa gift card". Everyone knows what that means and no one knows what a Verizon gift card is. I suspect you are correct but it would be nice to get confirmation from someone at Verizon.
Not full price, Verizon's "full price" when you buy a phone with a 2-year commitment. I simple meant that you can't apply the $200 gift card to your iPhone 6 at the time you're buying it. You have to buy the iPhone 6 first, and then apply for credit for your existing iPhone.
U have to have an upgrede to do the trade in?
That is called a subsidized price. With Contract.
The edge plan is no contract at full price spread out over 20 payments.
Well it appears that you can only only get the $199 price if you are eligible for an upgrade, and I can understand that. So it looks like my wife and I may be switching to T-Mobile. They will pay our ETFs and give us $300 for each of our phones. I know we will have to pay full price for the iPhone 6 from them but when offset by the $300 credit and the fact that their plans are so much less than we are paying Verizon for the same thing, has got us thinking it may be time time to switch even though we have been with Verizon for 11 years or more. I know T-M does not have the coverage Verizon does in many areas, but they have great coverage here where we are.
I would love to confirm, bmcd73! You will receive a Verizon gift card for trading in your current iPhone. Have a great day. ChaunceyM-VZWFollow us on twitter @VZWSupport
We are here to give you the straight forward answer, bmcd73. You would need to pay for the devices at the time of purchase. Once you trade your device in, you will receive a gift card for your traded in amount in 4-6 weeks. You can use the gift card to pay your bill or purchase any accessories you would like to. Here it is folks - finally vzw listed the details on their FAQs:
iPhone Trade-in Promotion
This should answer all questions!
So it appears that you can use the Verizon Gift Card to pay your bill. However, years ago when a similar offer was run we took advantage and got the card. Unfortunately, we were unable to pay our bill with the gift card as we bundle our wireless with our FIOS and landline. Can a VZ rep confirm if one can pay the Verizon FIOS bundle bill with the $200 Verizon Gift Card? If that's the case, than a trade-in is less than desirable as I'm not going to buy $200 worth of accessories. Thanks.
I have a question. My upgrade is not till march or May of 2015. I do not want to wait this long for an iPhone 6. I saw this great deal where you can trade in your old iPhone (i have the 5) and then get 200 dollars off your purchase, or get a free one if your upgrade is available.
Since my upgrade is not available, would I have to pay the full 649$ for the phone and then -200 with my trade in? Then would be contract start over again for another 2 years?
Thanks so much!
So you can only get one rebate if you have 2 eligible upgradable iphones on your account?
No if you read it, it says per iphone 6 or 6 plus
So I need to order the iphone 6 directly from Verizon Wireless store and then use the promo code that comes with the phone to trade it in at the promotional price? Can I take the promotional code to a local store and do a trade in there?
Can a Verizon Wireless Rep please confirm if this works: buy [2] iPhone 6 and trade in [1] eligible iPhone 4 and [1] eligible iPhone 4s and receive $200 for each phone which totals $400 gift card value. These phones are on the same family contract and both available for upgrade. Please let me know! Trying to figure out if we are going to be able to buy 1 or 2 phones today!
I'm not a verizon rep but I can tell you that yes that will work for both phones. I plan to do that same thing for 3 lines.
pjablonski, Great question. You would not be able to use your Verizon Wireless gift card to make a payment on your bundled service. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. RobinD_VZWFollow us on twitter @VZWSupport
I'm hoping it will work out that way bc these old FOURs have to go!
Let's answer your question, jberube96! We can understand how exciting it is for a new phone. You can purchase the device at full retail price and then trade in your current device and get a Verizon Wireless gift card for your device. You can then use this gift card towards your bill or any accessories you may want.RobinD_VZWFollow us on twitter @VZWSupport
It still hasn't been answered whether or not phones purchased directly from Apple will be eligible for this or not. The FAQ doesn't do anything to answer this either. If I preorder from Apple as opposed to Verizon will I still be able to take part in this program? My fear is that Verizon will not be able to get me the phone on launch day, as this has been a problem for previous iPhone releases.
What can they be used for then besides accessories? waiting until the next phone comes out?
techop, my guess is no, you have to buy it from Verizon.
No you can't. For the reasons explained to you earlier. That wouldn't make sense for verizon. In case you thought different verizon wouldn't do this unless it benefited them.
How do I go about trading in store to receive the $200 credit? Can I submit my trade online them show up at the store instead of mailing it in?
be careful when turning in your phone. I purchased a supposedly "new" Iphone 5c and it has all of the other users information, their messages, their email addresses of people who have texted them, videos they made, links going to their icloud storage, even their app id for buying apps through the app store. Unfortunately it also has my account, so I'm still trying to figure out how to decouple them.
If I read this right, I am currently out of contract since 2013. I can pay full price for the Iphone 6, get a $200 gift card for turning in a Iphone 4, and keep my unlimited data (since purchasing the device at full cost). Just want to make sure before selling my Iphone 4 since I do not want a new 2yr contract and lose unlimited data.
Honestly I do not really see why I would need to buy the Iphone from Verizon.
When I go to the trade in site and enter my Iphone 5 info says I will get:
Appraised Value $160.00
Promotion Value $40.00
Total $200
I could buy the phone from Apple and do my trade in with Verizon and get the $200 card
I have seen it written on here a few times, but read elsewhere that it is NOT possible on PRE-ORDERS.
VZW rep can you help me out here?!
When pre-ordering tonight, can we bill the iPhone 6+ to our account?! That way we can pay for it with our trade in giftcard $???
I have heard mixed answers all around, but read Erin from VZW's post saying you can Bill it to your account!
HELP!!! :smileyhappy: Thank you so much!!!
Quite a few reps on here stated that you can bill to account and since we only have 2 hours and 14 minutes left, only time will tell.
What time will the pre-order for the iPhone 6 be in EST for me when it's 12:01 AM PST?
3:01am EST!
Can I still get the promotional trade in value if I purchase the phone from Apple?
I'm a little confused by the dates involved here. I just pre-ordered an iPhone 6 Plus through my Verizon account -- the expected delivery date is 10/7. Obviously, I can't trade in my current iPhone 4S until the new phone arrives -- but the fine print says the promotion only runs until 9/30. Am I out of luck, or can I simply apply for the promo, and then send in the phone later? I also saw another expiration date of 11/15 to send in the phone. Not sure how/if that relates to the 9/30 date. Somewhere, I think I also saw something that said you only had 5 days to send in the phone ones the mailer was received.
Needless to say, just a little confused!
Any clarifications appreciated.

?? I tried doing it online this morning but your website was having issues, as you probably know. I was concerned about the pre order a availability running out and I was able to preorder it through apple's website. After I submitted this question, I called *611 this morning and someone else said I still could take advantage of the trade in offer. So why the conflicting info? Can you or someone else call me?
Sent from my iPhone
Also, I just called a local verizon store near me and they said I call still take advantage of the trade in, I just have to turn the old iPhone in at the store directly. Who should I trust/believe??

DON'T trade your old iPhone on line with Verizon. There are tons of posts about customers getting screwed out of what they are due for their trade-ins. As with me and my husband's phones, they met ALL the criteria by Verizon to get $100 per phone, however we were quoted $36 per phone! As you will see on the other posts, Verizon uses some made up excuse for not giving customers, who spend a tremndous amount of money with VZ over the course of a year, the entitled amount.
What's deplorable is that VZ says in their recent advertising that the offer is 'UP TO" $100 per trade-in contingent on the phone's condition of course. That's they're way of skirting around deceptive advertising and avoid investigation by the FTC or lawsuits. To save themselves money they are deliberately - as we've all noticed - downgrading the value of our phones and hiding behind their advertising to cover their actions. See VZ has to show a profit of a required dollar amount to their Board of Directors every quarter or annually, whatever. VZ Corporate obviously believe they'll meet their profit requirements by conducting their trade in program this way but what they fail to lose site of is that their numbers will DRAMATICALLY decrease due to angered customers who will be switching carriers!
So I am canceling my order for (2) iPhone 6 plus and switching carriers. The best way to get back at the company is to leave them since they are NOT willing to resolve their business practices and of course...POST ON SOCIAL MEDIA!
I don't know about anyone else but I AM SO SICK AND TIRED of multi-million/billion companies screwing their customers! They wouldn't have their salaries if it weren't for us!
Hi I wanted to know if I was to do the trade-in from the iphone 4 to the iphone 6 that if i do it online when do i send in my iphone 4 do i send it in when i get my iphone 6 or when do i send it in.
I preordered the iPhone 6 but it says it won't be shipped until October 4. I also requested the trade-in information which I received. However, the information says you have to purchase and activate a new iPhone 6 with Verizon wireless during 9/9/14 to 9/30 14 in order to get the trade in value. This is impossible if it won't be shipped until October 4. Very disappointing.
Kbell724 We are on your side and want to help you have a better experience with us. We apologize for any frustration the trade in value has caused and we would never want to lose your business. You mentioned the phones were in good and working condition which helped add to the appraised value. Do you know if "Find my iPhone" was disabled on the devices traded in? Kicjow Great question! When you trade in your device online it takes 4 to 6 weeks to receive your gift card AFTER we receive your iPhone 4. You can activate another phone you might have around or a previous VZW device etc. The trade in offer is set to expire on 9/30/14 so there is still a little time to review your options. I am still trying to understand all this trade in stuff. I ordered my Iphone 6 online and I should get it today (on my local truck out for delivery). I have a Iphone 4 that I want to trade in. Can I just go into my local corporate Verizon store and trade it in? Will I get the gift card at the store? Do I have to mail it in? Please explain
Thanks
Verizon absolutely sucks treating their current customers, and I experienced it first hand when I called them to upgrade my family's iphone5C to iphone6.
I am 1 year into the 2-year contract with Verizon, and they would not do anything to help.
So, I just called T-Mobile, and here is what they are doing for me:
## APPLES-TO-APPLES analysis:
1. Trade in the two iphone5C, and give us $202 each ($404) -- Verizon is offering $0 since I am under 2 year contract
2. This brings down the cost of iphone6 to $447 ($894 total) -- with with Verizon it is $649 ($1298 total), saving of $404
3. T-Mobile is paying us $500 to get out of the Verizon contract ($250 each)
4. Their monthly cost for 2 lines in $80, whereas I pay $120 with Verizon, same data coverage, savings of $40/month.
** Bottom line over 2-years, we will save $960 ($40 X 24 months) + $404 (two phones) = $1364 ($56.83 per month)
** So I am signing up with T-mobile over the weekend.
And when I call Verizon. they have nothing to match this offer, when I am a customer with them for 10+ years.
All they talk about is - "look at our network"
Now that is complete BS.
I did extensive research, and in the San Jose/Silicon Valley/Bay Area, Verizon and T-Mobile are neck-to-neck in several studies.
I think unless Verizon wakes up from their bullshit "look at our network" slogan, especially is big metro areas where it is simply not true, they will loose customers left and right.
I am willing to pay a 10% premium maybe for a better network, but not a 25% to 40% premium - that is a Verizon rip-off
rootmetrics.com
Go to the above website and look at the coverage score between Verizon and other carriers in the "San Jose" area:
ATT: 96.9
Verizon: 96.2
T-Mobile: 95.1
Sprint: 80.4
So Verizon is 1% to 2% better than T-Mobile, but cost $56.83 *MORE* per month over 2 years.
You do the math, and tell my how and why anyone should stick with Verizon!
I called Verizon to order my new iPhone 6 Plus and that went OK but it won't be shipped until end of October (perhaps sooner if the supplies come in). I specifically asked the live rep if I could get the $200 trade in promotion and was told that as long as I apply for the promotion before the end of September and send in the old iPhone 4 before December 1, 2014 I will get the trade in promotion of $200, assuming the old phone is in good working order when Verizon receives it. I also validated this with an online rep. I know the website is a bit confusing because in one place it states exactly what I was told but in another place there is a different spin. Apparently, the trade in policy was liberalized when people complained that their new phones were on back order and there was no way that they could send in their old phones before the end of September. The website hasn't been updated in all the places that reference the trade in promotion and that is causing people unnecessary grief.
The mail in Trade is a total Scam. There are so many complaints its unreal. My guess is that Verizon will re think this program in the future. Its a public relations/ Customer service nightmare.
Just saw your post. I upgraded 2 phones to the iPhone 6 ( a 4S and a 5S) and completed the online rebate form in the store for each one. ($200 for the 4S and $300 for the 5S). Was told I would receive shipping materials in about 5 business days. Waited almost 2 weeks and never received them (and still haven't). Tried to contact some at Device Recycling Program - no luck. Finally had to contact Verizon Wireless Customer Service. Was told they shipping materials were back ordered due to the overwhelming response to the rebate promotion. Agent had me print shipping label from website for each phone. Shipped each phone separately with Submission ID number provided. Have been able to confirm that both phones were received in the "warehouse" on 10/21/14, however, as of today, 11/19/14, when checking rebate status both phones come up as "not received". Was able to speak to someone in Recycling Program - was told they receive 15,000 phones a day - mine have been there almost a month - shouldn't there at least be an update online. I knew it was going to take awhile to get the rebate cards, however, they should at least acknowledge they have been received. Supposedly, any phone received after 12/1/14 will be considered "late" and rebate amount will be re-evaluated. Have been a loyal Verizon Wireless customer for over 15 years - certainly hope this isn't a scam. Want at least some kind of acknowledgement that phones have been received and rebates are being processed and not at a lower amount then specified above. Any help would be appreciated.
