You can not remove those apps but you can move them to another screen or create a folder for all of the apps you don't want to deal with. Not the solution you want exactly but it's an alternative so to speak
Press down on the app till all the apps start to shake. Then press the x of the one you want to delete.
You can also sync with iTunes
1. Click on your phone on the left
2. Click on apps on the top next to info
3. Uncheck the app
4. Re-sync
5. Delete the app from the iTunes library to permanently remove it so you will not be bothered by update reminders for that app.
