After two weeks, the Verizon trade-in program finally says they received my trade-in iPhone 4S. But under "Adjustment Reason", it says, "Activation lock not deactivated". I've been searching online everywhere and it seems like this has happened regularly to many different people, all saying that they were ripped off. I made sure to disable the Find My iPhone lock and followed all of the guidelines that I was instructed to follow before I sent my trade-in in. The device was even removed from iCloud online. I have been a Verizon Wireless customer for years and I even used to work for the company! So I need to know if I will receive my $200 gift card like I was promised or if I will have to file a claim, call customer service repeatedly, go into Verizon stores and complain and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

You must of lucked out when you called, I have been trying to call that number all day and they keep telling me all reps are busy and hanging up. They aren't even giving you the chance to wait on hold for someone to be available.

I also can't get a hold a rep by calling (877) 247-3846. I did trying to use Verizon Trade in "contact us" form twice but haven't received a reply back in over a week

I think everyone should fight this. Apple confirmed that if the iPhone is wiped and reset, then the Find my iPhone lock will not be active.

Yes, I followed those steps to deactivate Find my iPhone. I also removed it from my iCloud and wiped and reset the phone.

This EXACT same thing has happened to me. My contract was over I could have easily switched to any other company but stayed with Verizon because I had appreciated them to date. However, this makes me sick. I was expecting that money. $36 instead of $200! Absurd. I reset my phone, removed it from the cloud, you name it, everything was done. I hope someone with the means to do so organizes a class auction lawsuit. They aren't even answering calls on the call in line.

I'm going to my Verizon store in a couple hours so I'll report back how it went.

If you still have the IMEI number, go to the Apple Activation Lock iCloud site and plug in the number. If will show that the device is unlocked. I've been waiting 2 weeks to hear something back on the rebate. Wish I had just walked it into the store. I did a factory reset, so if they claim the device is locked the Apple site will show otherwise.

Got my $200 Verizon credit in store.
Took a while, they inspected the phone very closely. In the end they gave me a receipt with a gift card number on with worth $200 credit at Verizon.
Now this is a bit different then what I have been hearing. Some are reporting getting $200 Visa cards that can be used anywhere. I did not care though as I was planning on using mine to pay my bill anyways.

I sent in my iPhone 5 when I bought the iPhone 6. Verizon claimed my old phone it won't power on when they received it. That is odd because it was working just fine up until the moment I deactivated it when I got my new iPhone 6 on the 9/19. They can easily see my bill, and that I was using my IP5 right up to the very moment I deactivated it to activate my new IP6. I did a factory reset, erased all content, and double checked it. I used their mailing sleeve. I followed the instructions to the letter. Now it's their word against mine, but they can still see on my bill that the phone was fully functional up to the minute before I deactivated it. I'm not exactly asking them to take my word for it that the phone was fine; THEY CAN SEE THAT ON THEIR END! Instead of the $200 "appraised value" now they are giving me $36! I NEVER would have sent them my fully functional IP5 (64G) for $36!!! As a long term customer of Verizon who has bought at least FOUR new IPhones from them, I feel extremely taken advantage of. What recourse do I have?
(I did speak to someone who said they are "escalating" this issue. I also emailed the trade in contact. I have yet to hear anything.)

I was told the same line on the “escalation.” It really is sick what they are doing to so many of us! I would have never returned my phone either! All I got was $36! One person said they returned 2 phones in identical conditions and both prepared in the same way. One got $36 and one got $200. It is a complete scam and I have no idea what recourse we have. You are not alone in how you feel. This is essentially theft and abuse.

The same EXACT thing happened to me, and I know for a FACT that I properly deactivated my phone and removed it from ICloud. I was able to get thru and file a dispute on their BS $36 offer. I have been a loyal Verizon customer for over 10 years and this is how they treat us!

I was actually able to get thru on their phone number 877-247-3846 on Sunday (apparently they are open 24/7). They are not any help...they just tell you exactly what the status page tells you. I told the lady that I DID properly deactivate my phone...and she said she would escalate my case, and that they would respond to me via e-mail.

I am experiencing the exact same thing. I traded in my factory-reset, immaculate iPhone 4s, with an expected trade-in value of $200. "Find my phone" was turned off, and the phone was erased. I received a gift card value of $36 with the "activation lock not deactivated" bullsh*t reason. I, too, tried the phone number and got the recording saying that all of the reps were busy and that I'd have to try back later. What a complete scam. I would have never gotten rid of my phone if I knew this was going to happen -- it was worth way more to me not being used, sitting in my drawer than $36. Verizon Wireless Customer Support "support" people, will you please address this? Is there any way I can just get my phone sent back to me? I have been a continued Verizon Wireless customer since 1999, and I'm totally disgusted by this.

I am having the exact same issue with no help or response from anyone. Traded in a perfect condition 4s and was sent $36 for it. This promotion is nothing but a scam to get customers to upgrade and sign new contracts. I am positive the phone activation lock was turned off since I received a email from Apple.

I'm sorry to hear you haven't been able to reach a representative to clarify your concern JoshuaK. The value you received for $36 is due to 'Find My iPhone' not being deactivated prior to sending it to us. This is different than removing an iCloud back up or turning it off, it has to be disabled. If you need to contact our Rebate Center, you can click here http://vz.to/1nQEbwq and select the tab "Contact Us".

I think you have a bigger problem on you hands...if you read through the forum and see how many people are have the same issue. Apple has made this pretty much made it idiot proof to erase your phone and deactivate find my iPhone. PER APPLE SUPPORT: Before giving away or selling your iOS device, be sure to erase your content and settings (in Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings). When you erase your content, Find My iPhone and Activation Lock are also turned off. IDIOT PROOF!!!! Verizon, I don't know if you are using a third party for your trade in program...but they are screwing and alienating your customers! And I am a LONG time customer...been with Verizon since you started...and before that GTE Mobilnet.

Hi Drillerdan,
Correct! The mandatory hard reset done on the device before completing a trade will disable Find My iPhone. The Erase All Content and Settings option must be selected.
• Going to Settings > General > Reset and selecting Erase all Content and Settings completely erases the device and turns off iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, Game Center and other services.
• For a customer using iOS 7 or later who has Find My iPhone turned on, the customer's Apple ID and password is required. After the customer provides the password, the device is erased and is removed from the customer's account. If you are unable to remember the Apple ID password Go to http://iforgot.apple.com from the Safari browser on the iPhone. 3 Follow the prompts to reset the password. 4 Complete the steps to turn off Find My iPhone. If Restrictions (Parental Controls) are enabled while trying to remove Find My iPhone, a pop-up box appears on the Apple device requesting that the Restrictions Code be entered to confirm. Tap Settings > General. 2 Tap Restrictions. 3
Tap Disable Restrictions and enter the 4-digit PIN (passcode). Customers who have lost or forgotten their Restrictions PIN must perform a factory restore using iTunes from their home computer. You can view your device registration on Apple's site to see if the device is still listed under your registered devices here http://bit.ly/1r5XxUW .
Thanks,
