Surf and Talk on iphone 4s

Any idea if I should be able to surf and talk on the iphone 4s at the same time with WiFi turned off? I am getting multiple answers from Verizon.

No you can't... In order to do so you need wifi.

The 4G LTE phones allow for talking and surfing while on the 4G LTE network. Perhaps they thinking about that at the time.

All we can do here is answer your question about talking and surfing simultaneously, which cannot be done and is no big secret.

Whether or not "they" lied to you will have to be decided by you. It would not be the first time a store rep gave out mistaken inormation. All carriers, too.

Yes all 4g can talk and data but thunderbolt can do on 3g as well. Maybe they ment to say only atat iphobe can do that but they fail to mention only atat. Maybe they thought because ata iphone could vzw version could also. For example when the bionic came out. Customer service thought it could have 8 - 10 devices hotspot although not totally important to me but it only can do 5 3g/4g. They took into assumption 4g phones are created equal.

Moral of the story people can assume at times just because there the same brand type or same name there the same. Like the atat bb torch and vzw torch 1 same name but 1 no slide out kb all touch and atat had slude out in 3 different colors. Each company i guess picks there own style they want or technology.

I think that you are mistaken. Thunderbolt cannot do this over Verizon's 3G. You would have to be on wi-fi.

The Thunderbolt can in fact do it over 3G due to the way the radios are set up. The main chip is dedicated to voice and 1x data while the other controls 3G/LTE. The new HTC Rezound may also be capable of it as it uses the same qualcomm modem.

I can't verify this. However, when you look at the Verizon shopping page for Pantech Breakout, one of the key features lists "Simultaneous Voice and Data" just like the Thunderbolt does. None of the other 4G LTE phones list that features as a key feature. It makes me wonder if the Pantech Breakout has a similar radio setup as the Thunderbolt. On the other hand, it could be because the Breakout is mid-level 4G LTE phone and has less features than other phones.
