1. Iphone 5 coming in june. Do you want to be the guy/gal with the old and slow phone in a few months? No.
2. Hotspot who cares! I can pay $20 or less for this feature on any decent phone!
3. Have an 'old' plan? Sorry, you have to sign up for a new and more expensive plan to get this phone!
At&t looking better and better.

I have an ATT contract and Apple is in control of their image. My $$ is also on Apple not releasing a phone on Verizon network and within 4 months releasing another generation phone. They would have a bunch of angry Verizon iPhone owners. The first upgrade with Att was met with fierce anger by iPhone owners because when Apple released the next generation phone ATT was not going to allow current iPhone owners an early upgrade option. The public outcry fixed that in a jiffy and people that had bought the first gen phones on launch day were magically eligible for the next gen phones on launch day. I don't suspect Verizon would want the backlash of releasing iPhone 5 on their network 4 months after the launch of a newly designed device. Also, Apple would not want to upset their fan base by doing something like that. I figure (just my speculation) you will see June dates for ATT and February dates for Verizon. This way they can stagger the manufacturing and distribution peaks. Just my 2 cents.

I agree 100%. I don't think there will be an iPhone 5 on VZW come June/July. And, if I am wrong, and if there is, I also think that VZW/Apple will have something worked out where existing iPhone 4 owners on VZW will be allowed to upgrade at that time at the 2 year pricing. I could be wrong, but that is just my thought on it.
And, if I am wrong.....that's fine too.....I will either just open a new $9.99 line on my family plan and get the iPhone 5 through that line (as I have available lines open to me), or if the iPhone 5 isn't that much of an upgrade (which I am not anticipating it to be anything major....I think it will be something comparable to the 3G to 3GS upgrade), I will just hold on to it til the iPhone 6 comes. Apple has historically not jumped on "new technology networks" until they are (1) more stable - well AT&T was NEVER STABLE but that's a different story! and (2) more widespread. When the 1st iPhone was released, AT&T already had their 3G network up and running, howeever the iPhone was not a 3G device - Apple waited til year 2 to relase the 3G version when the network was more tested, the chipsets were better with battery life, the network was more deployed, etc. So, I would not expect them to release the iPhone 5 with 4G LTE since Verizon's is just up and running now (all be it pretty big already) and AT&T is only using HSPA+ now, which they are callling 4G (even though it really isn't), with their 4G LTE not rolling out til later in the year.

So after doing more research and seeing more and more evidence of the iPhone 5 NOT being LTE, I went ahead and switched to Tmobile HTC MyTouch 4g which offers me free 4g tethering. In other words, it's the only data plan in existence where I can use the data as I please. I cannot wait for iPad 2 which I am sure will make for a happy marriage with my new android device.

Nice FUD you are spreading around.
T-Mobile does not offer "free" wifi tethering. They DO NOT allow tethering, but are switching to allow it with a tethering plan within the near future.
Also they have a 5GB "soft" cap where they will throttle you down if you go over.
Have fun and Good Luck. I hope you are not one of those people in the T-Mobile boards complaining about this later on.

1. Just because the iPhone 5 is coming this summer does not mean that the iPhone 4 will suck. It probably wont even be in 4G, same 3G as iPhone 4. Expect a huge OS update rather than a major design change.
2. I dont care thats why Im not paying $20...
3. Its called a data plan, all smart phones have to have one. Plus $30 = unlimited (Verizon) kicks $25 = 4GB (ATT)

No he's still wrong so to speak.
Yes it's an extra 2GB, but the plan will cost you $45. Their plans will be.
$15 for 200MB, $25 for 2GB, $45 for 4GB with tethering.

ill take a stab at this:
1. Iphone 5 coming in june. Do you want to be the guy/gal with the old and slow phone in a few months? No.
look at all the problems iphones have when they first come out (they still havent made a new iphone 4 to fix the
antenna problem with att). also look how many areas that have 4g major cities only so as soon as you leave the city no more 4g
2. Hotspot who cares! I can pay $20 or less for this feature on any decent phone!
not going to get
3. Have an 'old' plan? Sorry, you have to sign up for a new and more expensive plan to get this phone
umm according to my new plan its $89.99 a month right now my phone bill is $109 a month with my droid so im going down

Verizon might not get the iPhone 5 until months later though. I have friends who are still using their iPhone 3. Upgrading to the latest thing is not a priority for everyone. I would hardly call the iPhone 4 an old device. I actually see the Verizon version as a new and improved model. I usually use my phones for 2 plus years before I get sick of them or they die.
A good reason to buy now is that unlimited data plan. Who knows how long that is going to be around. I already pay the same price for my Blackberry now so it is not an issue. The iPhone is also better suited for my business.

I have a question about the iPhone's data package allowances.
My Droid Eris for instance has unlimited data for the $30 a month...
I saw AT&T charges $15 for 200mb and $25 for 2 gb a month.'
Well, do apps count towards THAT data or does it just take up the initial 16/32gb the iphone 4 has?
Because my ipod touch can have as many apps as I want until the device gets full, without having to pay for "overages"
That's really bull**** if i have to pay for downloading over 2gb worth of apps/music/vids??????
I was about to cancel Verizon and start an AT&T contract..but uh...

The 16/32 gb have nothing to do with data usage. That is the amount of memory your phone has for storage, apps, songs, etc.

I'm just curious

well yeah, i know that. But what makes Verizon's unlimited so much better than AT&T's $15/month or $25/month compared to $30/month for VZW?
I only ask because...if the cheapest of those packages still lets you surf the web, check email, facebook, and youtube etc. the cheapest sounds the best to me.
I think the only thing i used my data on with VZW, was downloading an 8mb ringtone of V-Cast or some crap.
If all apps, music, vids, etc bought off itunes go directly on the internal memory and don't use the data allowance...AT&T seems the best route.
Unless i'm missing some subtle nuances that data usage takes up

it really depends on what you do. if you start streaming video from like netflix and things like that it will eat up data really quick
