iPhone 12 Pro 5G UW Not Working

Essentially my phone will work fine on LTE or 5G, but as soon I walk into a 5G UW area the Internet just stops. It doesn't say I have no service, in fact I have full bars with the 5G UW symbol, it just stops working. No pages load, no apps using the Internet work. I feel like this is probably an issue with the phone, but I wanted to see if anyone else was having the same problem.

That is certainly not the experience you should be having. Let's see about getting that corrected. Are you using the SIM Card your new device came with?

Yes, original SIM with phone.

I should have also noted it was working when I first got the phone. And only recently have I noticed this failure. I can't remember exactly when it started though, but my assumption is it could be tied to an iPhone update.

Resetting the network settings seems to work, but only briefly. It eventually stops working.

I'm having exactly the same problem.

I had no problem with LTE ... or 5G... ever... had my iPhone 12 Pro since they were released last year.

HOWEVER: I have never seen (that I remember) a verion "5G U/W" connection... but 5G always worked.

NOW HOWEVER: I've started to see 5G UW sometimes.. and whenever I see that I need to switch the cellular mode to LTE and turn off 5G because.. 5G UW just hangs with no network connectivity.

I went to both apple and Verizon yesterday and was told it’s the network. Even though the phone picks up the 5GUW signal it’s too weak to properly function based on your location. They basically explained to me, not in these words, that the network is still in its infancy and unless you’re right underneath the pole that broadcasting it’s unusable. Probably rolled this out a little too early. They should make an option to turn off 5guw but leave 5G on. For now I’ll just continue to use LTE I guess

What’s sad is that you posted this months ago…and I’m still having the issue with 5G UW only not working. I’m running IOS 15 as well.

Your 5Guw is trash. My phone does not connect to the internet when it is on that broadband width. Fix this issue please. My phone is useless with the 5Guw.

This is happening with my iPhone 13 as well. My city just went 5GUW across the entire city and nothing ever loads. I actually turned off the 5G and am using LTE with no issues but I’m annoyed because we pay a lot for our phones and data

I’m having the same issue in the Chicago area. It started on Wednesday just west of the city and occurred again right downtown. 5GUW rendered my internet and all apps useless. I couldn’t order ahead for food, use GPS, or pay for parking. I couldn’t switch to 5G or LTE either, so my expensive smart phone became pretty dumb. I’ve had my phone done 10/2020 and this is the first time I’ve had the problem, so this is isn’t an issue of me changing a setting.

That really has been done on my end and nothing seems to be working I have reset my phone factory reset my phone network resetting I have changed the Sim card to a 5G which is have to be compatible with that and nothing seems to be working

I have an iPhone 12 with iOS 15.2.1 and Verizon Do more unlimited plan $50

I never had nor am I having any problems connecting to 5G UW Verizon data.

The 5GUW access is included in all plans as far as I know.

My wife has iPhone 12 pro max with iOS 15.2.1 and as soon as she comes into 5GUW signal it disconnects data completely.

if my phone works that means it’s not a Verizon issue. Looks like Apple needs to update software for iPhone 12 pro max and up.

I had the same problem that started after the last iPhone update. 5g and LTE work fine but the UW not so much.

Same here, L.A. metro area no service. I was able to access at SoFi stadium when it first opened, but for the past 2 month no service. I've contacted Verizon kept getting message they were working on it and received final resolved message. I'm still having problems.

FYI Verizon, the 5g uw has not been updated for the Salt Lake City area. Still having loss of internet all the time in certain areas.

One day my LTE went to 5GUW and with it the amazing service and fast load times I have come to appreciate from Verizon and what keeps me at Verizon. Now, I might as well get a cheaper plan at AT&T because whatever 5GUW is, it's awful.

Can I turn it off???????

Hi Verizon support, I’m having same issue. Details: iPhone12 Pro, iOS 15.2.1. Original SIM I bought new in the phone. Phone purchased direct from Apple IIRC.

I live in Colorado Springs in an LTE area. Two weeks ago went to Detroit and first noticed the issue: anytime I hit 5G UW area internet drops. (If I try to load a page in Safari it says I am not connected to internet). Was only there two days, so not a big deal, just turned off 5G

today went to a different area of Colorado Springs. As soon as I hit 5G UW, internet stopped

Hello, Deckwalker. We know how important having access to data services can be. Have you tried a Network Settings Reset (Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings)? Do you notice any changes after this has been done?

I’m having the same problems. I’ve called Verizon several times and no one can seem to fix it. I’ve been with Verizon for over eight years and about switch to another carrier because my phone just doesn’t work under the 5G UW

Unfortunately the new phone wont make a difference. I had Apple replace my phone and had the same issue. Then we turned on UW on my 2nd line and it works fine on the same phone. My main line however doesnt.

There is something in the provisioning of the line that is messed up but nobody can seem to fix. They have provisioned my line multiple times and it hasnt solved the issue. All my other lines work fine though.

My first NRB ticket resulted in the techs not listening to the issue and closing it because “There isnt UW service at your home address”. Even though it was clear, my home address isnt the issue, its everywhere I go that does have UW.

My 2nd NRB has been open for a week now and I’ve heard nothing except the texts that say they will update when the issue is resolved.

I was scheduled to switch carriers last week when a Verizon rep called and convinced me to let them recreate a ticket with the proper information. I should have just made the switch.

I have the same problem with my Galaxy S22 Ultra. Every time I go into 5G UW, I have no internet at all.

2 weeks since the latest ticket was opened. Spent almost 2 hours on the phone with tier 2 support yesterday. A supervisor was supposed to call me back within a couple hours and never did. Going on 3 months of this issue.

Spoke to T-Mobile this morning. They’ll be paying off 2 iPhone 13 pros and my bill will be $40 less per month. They are who I switched to Verizon from thinking Verizon would be better. T-Mobile is limited up north, however so is Verizon even though the map shows coverage.

Anyone dealing with this issue should accept this issue will not be fixed.

Yes only when our phones shows 5UW. I’m on the play more unlimited, my other phones are on the play more I believe
