Am I missing something? I've been waiting forever for Verizon to finally have the iphone, and come to find out it won't take advantage of the 4G capability? Nor can you use the phone and data applications simultaneously? Not to mention it is only CDMA capable? So put off I think I'll switch to ATT like I should have a long time ago.
Apple stated they were not ready to make the changes required to add the 4G radio at this time,.
So Verizon expects people to get an iPhone that runs on their 3G network, is almost a year old, can't do data and voice at the same time, and expects them to want to keep this thing for two years when there will be a new iPhone this summer? Am I missing the excitement?
apparently so... I was missing the excitment on any version of Iphone lol at one point I wanted one but they were too expensive then after hearing rumor after rumor (over the past 4 yrs) that it was coming to Verizon I was hoping they'd get it so the "rumors" would stop it got old quick.... now i could care less if i got one or not especially after reading they don't do flash thanks but i'll pass lol
Does anyone know the technical details of the iPhone 4 that will be used by Verizon? I thought all iPhone 4's were 4G not 3G like the iPhone 3.
Also, with the phone be using the CDMA version of the SIM card that is currently used in other countries like China?
That is called the R-UIM card for CDMA, it functions in a similar was as the SIM card does for GSM.

No iPhone 4 is 4G, whether it is on AT&T or Verizon. They are ALL 3G phones only.
This problem was caused early on in Apples ads for their upcoming iPhone. They advertised it as iPhone 4G. What this meant was the 4th Gereration iPhone, not that is was 4G network capable. They later dropped the "G" and advertised it as the iPhone 4 in an attempt to alleviate some confusion.I have to chuckle.... people have been wanting Verizon to get the iPhone for a long time, and now that it's here (well Feb. 11th) there's something they don't like about it. I'm reminded of the saying:"You can please some of the people all the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all the time."Best of luck to everyone.... whatever they decide to do,
I have never heard such whining (did I spell that right), I am totallly exited about the iphone and I have owned a lot of phones, I am a cell phone fanatic and I have never found one that is perfect, I always want more. But I am so excited about the Verizon Iphone. Apple does not move fast in producing new versions of the iphone and Verizon will not change that when Apple feels they can produce a quality 4G iphone, it will happen.
Before all the freaking out, how much is the phone if you have to buy it without upgrades? Isn't $299 the full price?
Also, my question is this -- say you get the new iPhone, sign a new 2 year contract. In the summer, Apple introduces the new iPhone. Can you buy a new one and use it on the existing plan (understanding that you must pay a non-upgrade price for the actual phone)?
This is why I wonder about so many freaking out over the 2-year contract. To me all that means is you're staying with Verizon. You get free or highly subsidized phones when you sign a new plan, but if you want a $300 phone, you can still buy a $300 phone, yes?
Thanks!
No the retail price is 599 for th 16GB and 699 for the 32GB
At this time, we only have the pricing for the iPhone in conjunction with a 2-year service agreement. Those prices are:
16GB - $199.99
32GB – $299.99
As soon as we have the full retail pricing , we will share it with you. We appreciate your patience with us as we work to launch this great device.
According to a recent update of the iPhone FAQ sheet:
"$199.99 for the 16GB model, and $299.99 for the 32GB model, with a new 2 year agreement. iPhone 4 will also be available for purchase at full retail price - $649.99 for the 16GB model, and $749.99 for the 32GB model."
Answer to the person wanting to switch to AT&T: Ha ha. Sure! If you want to lose the ability to make phone calls... Stick to Android, a superior system. Don't fall for Apple empire. Oh, and by the way, AT&T doesn't have 4G. What are you talking about?
What I'm dreading rigth now, is all those iPhone pretenders flooding into the Verizon's network and clogging it. I'm also dreading Verizon's customer service going down the drain now that they'll become the true leaders and will have all the business in the world.
What worries me is the fact that Verizon has yet to publish the data plan pricing for the iPhone. I have a feeling that we may be in for a big surprise. iPad data plans go as highas $80!
Why is the full retail price from Verizon higher than from Apple?
Okay 2 questions:
1. I have heard that the 4G LTE network will be available spring/summer 2011. If I get the iPhone now, would I be able to switch it to the 4G network somehow, or would I have to purchase it again thus saying there will be a new 4G version made?
2. Apple comes out with a new iPhone every summer. Say they come out with the iPhone 5, will Verizon receive it?
@teadge......who knows? maybe it's because it has hotspot capability? maybe it's just because they can charge more because the have a superior network? maybe apple is charginf vzn more than it charges at&t????
@courtney.....no. the ip4 will not be capable of using the LTE network. and nobody knows when vzn would get the ip5. they will get a newer iphone eventually, but nobody knows when. some people will wait for an LTE version and may end up waiting for over a year. then again, some people may get the ip4 in a couple months and find out that in July an ip5 that is LTE capable will come out. who knows?
Honestly, I don't think the iPhone 5 will come this year for Verizon because the LTE won't be nationwide this year. . If there is new iPhone coming this summer probably won't be iPhone 5...more like iPhone 4gs like iPhone 3gs. and also whose to say it will come on Verizon? I personally I don't care if there is a newer iPhone in the Summer . I am still going to buy the iPhone 4 when it comes out. I don't care having the lastest and greatest because you spend the rest of you lives trying to play "catch up" and you always be behind in technolgoy. As long as the iPhone 4 it does what needs to do for me. I am okay with that. Software updates. I am good.
eshe2010.....you are correct in that there is no sense in even trying to always have the latest and greatest. unless you are willing to pay retail every so often, then you'll never have the newest device. if people liek the ip4 now then they should go ahead and get it. my device is 8 months old and i still love it and would buy it again today...even at 8 months old. i do think they will want to release an LTE version though. LTE is already available in 40 major markets. sprint put out the 4g EVO and they have MUCH less 4g coverage than verizon. and since all of the upcoming androids will be LTE/4g, i think apple will not want to miss that boat.
The Blue network has been trying to update their networks furiously. I would wait and see how many people leave for Verizon before moving to AT&T. You will probably get a good rate from them since they will eventually start to hurt from this,
We have always had to wait for the best phones to come to Verizon. NOW you finally have the iphone 4 and the iphone 5 will be available in just a few more months. Always behind. Thanks.
mhrandall wrote: We have always had to wait for the best phones to come to Verizon. NOW you finally have the iphone 4 and the iphone 5 will be available in just a few more months. Always behind. Thanks.
You are insinuating VZW held up it getting the iPhone.... Apple had to come to terms with VZW before VZW even had a chance to get Apple to have the devices built. CDMA chips would not be made ordered or made until the two parties agreed. Once Apple agrees to the terms, the iPhone fairy does not come out and produce upwards of 9 million phones for Verizon overnight.
And I doubt VZW will get the iPhone 5 during the summer.
Is anyone besides me getting tired of receiving emails with a subject line "iPhone 4. Verizon. It Begins." only to have the email promote sales of OTHER phones??
have not received any emails; perhaps you forgot to uncheck something?
Never received one
I Think it's truly pathetic that Verizon finally gets the Ipnone4 and decides to force anyone who wants to buy one to sign up for an unlimited data plan for $29.99 a month. Not everybody wants this plan. They should offer a tiered pricing like AT&T for poeple who use less data. I think i'm switching my Four family share plan lines over to AT&T where it's more affordable. It's to bad Verizon turned to GREED when it decided to sell the Ipnone. Several days ago I could have signed up for a $15.00 a month 150gb data package but Verizon canceled that option just in time to start selling the Iphone. As soon as my contract is up I'm gone.I don't like greed.

I
don't think you will find a company without some form of greed. It really is about making money. Most people do want an unlimited plan. Are you saying AT&T isn't a greedy company?
You are right there all greedy. AT&T at least offers a cheaper data plan for poeple that can't afford the unlimited plan. I just think It should be an option. It was several days ago and they change it just before the sale of the Iphone. Not impressed.
I think that $15/mo was for 150 MB (not GB). If so, the $29.99/mo is a real deal. If you really USE the iPhone, 150MB will go pretty fast!
davidr32 wrote: I think that $15/mo was for 150 MB (not GB). If so, the $29.99/mo is a real deal. If you really USE the iPhone, 150MB will go pretty fast!
You are right, it is MB, not GB. That would be A LOT of data for $15!.
What about a one-year contract option? Will I be able to pre-order, or even get, the iPhone on a one-year contract?
stimm32 wrote: What about a one-year contract option? Will I be able to pre-order, or even get, the iPhone on a one-year contract?
Nope, two year or full retail. This one actually is answered in the FAQ
does anyone know if you can get the new iphone on a line that is NOT available for upgrade, if you have another line in your plan that is ready for an upgrade? I know they do this in the store...
??
If you go to your my verizon account and click upgrade now on the line you want your iPhone on (even if it is not elgible) and you have at least one line that is eligible, the next window will give you the option to transfer the eligible upgrade to whatever you line you want it on. Hope this makes sense.
They have that feature turned off I think. I just tried it and when you try to pick Iphone it drops the upgrade and puts you back at purchasing it for full price.
I too am having this issue. One of my lines is eligible but not the one I want to upgrade. It will let me move the upgrade to my phone but it won't let me choose the IPhone 4. Heard anything on how to fix this?
SHIP date Feb 10th? whats the deal with this? what was the use in pre-ordering?...what a rip off
How are we supposed to get this great phone if the order site is down? What kind of ad for Verizon does that seem to be?
I am trying to order it. It says sorry we are having difficulties. Try again!!
Try the apple site, it will let you preorder a verizon iphone.
it was quick and easy
Oh I am so ticked off!!
I have a credit balance and so the ICONIC (Moronically bad code) shows that my account is mistakenly past due and SOOO can't even think about ordering an iPhone!!!
Absolutely no one or nowhere to get a hold of a live person and so I might be done with these guys if I can't get a hold of an iPhone.
says their customer service is open at 6am, is that Eastern or Pacific?
The message from all of this?
You can't trust anything their customer service people tell you.
this is garbage. It will probably be too late by the time customer service opens up
I'm a little upset this early morning! I have tried for the past 1.5 hrs to preorder the iPhone 4 & all i get are error msgs like "YOUR SHIPPING INFORMATION IS INCORRECT. PLEASE CORRECT IT".
This was prepopulated by VZW when they accesses my account information and do I have a new iPhone 4 coming? Yea, nope! Why? Because my shipping address is not correct, although I've lived here & have received mail here for the last 9 years.
Got no help, no help, no support, just me awake at 3:38 am venting on a forum having 2 get up 4 work in 2 hrs.
I'm pretty upset right now too. I have 2 lines, 1 is eligible and thats my month-to-month i-pad broadband package. I do NOT want to extend that contract. I just want to move its upgrade to my main line but as of yet i see no way of doing that and pre-ordering the iPhone. And now its 4AM and i'm getting really cranky lol.

That is correct, Verizon had been telling people for two weeks now that you will not be able to do the "buddy system" of upgrade transfers. Unfortunately the only way to do it is to use the iPad line and you'd have to change it to an actual phone talk line.
I just spent time with LIVE CHAT at apple.com and they were very helpful. I logged on twice and received consistent information.
It is permissible to order the phone on the eligible line now and when the phone arrives have the service transferred to the line thatactually needed the phone. You probably will lose voice mails, but who cares! The confusion out there has been so frustrating. VZWcould have prevented this chaos with better information. Hope this helps!
but would I then be able to change it back to just the broadband connection vs a phone line? I don't need 2 phone lines lol.
How could Verizon not be prepared for the high volume of people that would be accessing their website!
I've tried to order the iphone 4 for the last 2hrs and it wont let me go through ive called customer service and they are in fact having issues with the high volume of people logging on.
ugh. well now its time to get to work and i havent ordered my phone so now by the time i can i probably wont be able to anymore knowing my luck theyll run out of their reserves and suspend orders.
knock on wood. lol.

Ok, so we have a FamilyShare plan and have two line. Verizon will not give us the upgrade discount on the second phone after telling us we were elidible for the upgrade. BThey are being hard **bleep** about the second line not being eligible because it is not a line that is $39.99 or higher, that it is $9.99. Well, that line is part of a Familiy Share contract that is currently $80! What the....?
This is the type of crap that will cause us to jump carriers. Charge current, and long time customer full price when they are essentially renewing there contract another two years, ridiclous!
So, they will not give us the $199.99 offer on the second phone. Thats a fail!
They will not do anything to retain our business. That's bad business and a complete fail!
[keep it courteous please]

So I don't understand, they said that you were eligible on the second line and then changed their mind, or you checked for the 1st line and found that you were eligible for that line. Then you just assumed that you were eligible on the second line? Or you did check on the second line, found that your weren't eligible and are just crying about it?
Yes, you are correct that this is the type of crap that will cause people to jump to other carriers. It is also the type of crap that causes people to jump to Verizon, because the same thing will happen when you go to another carrier.
The problem with your argument is that you are not essentially renewing your contract. Renewing your contract takes into account that you actually fulfill your current contract. You don't want to do that, do you. What you want is for Verizon to ignore the terms of your current contract in able to pacify your crying.
Verizon will do something to retain your business. When you say that they would not give you the $199.99 offer on the second phone, does that mean that they did give you the $199.99 offer on the first phone? THAT is something to retain your business. If you wait until the second line is eligible to upgrade, then they will once again offer the same incentive to retain your business.
The fact is that Verizon IS doing something to retain your business, it just may be that it is not enough in you opinion. In that case, you can very well leave for another carrier. But if you leave before your contract is up, which is at least 4 months away since you have 1 line that is not eligible for upgrade, you will also be leaving while paying an ETF for your troubles. And if you do stay until your contract is up, well, then you are waiting even longer for your precious iPhone that you seem to need NOW, NOW, NOW or I am going to leave.
Ok REALLLLLY frustrated.
Have tried getting this thing since 8 am every half hour (but probably more). Have called to help desk twice, patiently asking if there are issues with the website and for any help to see if it was me having an issue. Every time I was told nope the website was just down and there were no issues. So what does that mean? The website is down from 8am to 5:30pm? I don't believe this, and if this is true why not say something on the webpage? EXTREMELY frustrating about to just call it a wrap and get something else.
Well, good news bad news. When I signed up for the preorder a few weeks ago, it said that I was eligible for an upgrade to the iPhone. My current Eris date is 7/17/11. With the 6 month early upgrade offer, it said I was good to go on February 3.
I login at 3am to purchase the iPhone and it only offers me the full price upgrade - no offer of a 2 year contract. I pondered this for awhile, but decided to do it. I'll save the upgrade for when a newer iPhone comes out (i'm sure within the next 20 months). I'll also be out of contract, which is a bonus.
I did order my phone through the Apple site because it was a little less expensive.
Anyone else not able to get the 2 year pricing after being told they would be able to get it?
Well said!
I have no idea why all you people are bitching, having problems, trying to get things you are not eligible for, etc. The information put out by Verizon weeks ago on this was very clear, and even the Apple site gave you the eligibility informatin for your line (or lines). And, when it comes to transferring, who cares.....just order the phone on the line that is eligible, and then when you get it, do a *228 (or go to the store, or do it via My Verizon) and put the ESN on whatever number you want the iPhone on - it is not that difficult people!
I was on at 2am (as I live in CST) - actually about 1:50 am - and had absolutely NO PROBLEMS with the Verizon site. I ordered my phone (no acccessories, as that (1) would jsut slow the order up and (2) potentially delay shipping if all accessories weren't immediately available as they want to ship everything together.....I just did the accessories as a secondary order) and actually finished the order, and received the confirmation EMail of the order before 2am.
And, tonight, around 10PM I received the Email saying that my phone shipped. So, I will get it Monday or Tuesday (the 7th or 8th). Then, I can go into the Verizon store if I choose (as I have to take care of some logistics with switching numbers, as I ordere the phone off of a line that I have available to me on my mom's account....not even my own account) and have them take care of all my "logistics" before the masses come on hte 10th. As far as I am concerned, the pre-order process was great!
Its begins ! It sure does. The bandwidth throttle that is starting today.

I never really bought into all of that. I have been with Verizon for several years, but I normally do not wear my vest.
I’ve been a loyal and very patient VerizonWireless customer for nearly a decade. My wife left Verizon for ATT’s iPhone last year giving up hope to get the device available on Verizon network. I decided to wait…
Not too long ago I got a call from Verizon offering me the iPhone. Since I use my phone for business I had to find out whether iPhone is compatible with my company’s enterprise network before taking the offer. I was told by Verizon I could call back and take advantage of the opportunity.
But when I called back just a few weeks later I was told I am not eligible for the upgrade for another year and half! So, after sticking around for over two years waiting for Verizon to realize the iPhone is the right tool for its customers, I am rewarded with “NOT ELIGIBLE” status!
Great job Verizon – you’re about to lose your most loyal customer! Now, instead of adding my wife back to the family plan on Verizon, I’m about to join the family of AT&T!
Truly remarkable customer service! Sorry, I’ve wasted so many years doing business with the company that has so little consideration for its customers!
Am I the only one feeling I was cheeted and abused by Verizon?

When was your last upgrade?
If they say that you are not eligible for an upgrade for another year and a half, then that means you only upgraded just 2 months ago. EVERYONE is eligible for an upgrade with discounted pricing after completing 20 months of a 2 yr contract. If you didn't just upgrade ~2 months ago, then the person you spoke with when you called back was mistaken.
If you did just upgrade ~2 months ago than I can only think of a couple of scenarios. You upgraded and were still within the window that you could return your device without penalty. Why they would call you, unless you specifically asked to be called when the iPhone became available is a mystery to me. Did you sign up to be notified when the iPhone became available? Did you mistake this notification as Verizon saying that your current line is eligible for an upgrade, when they just meant to say that the iPhone was available, as per your request? Did you mistake them saying that you can add the iPhone to your account(on another line) for meaning that your current line was eligible for upgrade? All of these are possible reasons for the call.
Because the Verizon iPhone came in a little too late and not cutting edge anymore, in the days of 4g LTE, 4.3 screens,8 meg camera, flash,, and a few others such as simultaneous talk and surf--Although that is possible with wifi.
Now, is Verizion getting the iPhone 5 when it's announced in September?
