I have recently upgraded to Iphone 15. I have had Asurion through Verizon but am wondering about Apple Care instead. Does anyone have experience with using the coverage and how do you think they compare, which is better? Thank you!

Having the right coverage for your device is imperative, daldredge. Congrats on the new iPhone 15! My wife just got her new iPhone as well, and we use Verizon's Mobile Protect for our phones. You can learn more about what Verizon Mobile Protect offers here: https://www.verizon.com/solutions-and-services/add-ons/protection-and-security/verizon-mobile-protec... and then compare it to Apple Care+ coverage options here: https://www.apple.com/support/products/iphone/
I hope this helps you make your decision.

The main differences that I can see between the two coverages is that Apple Care+ is only for 2-year period, and Verizon Mobile Protect(VMP) will remain available as long as you choose to keep it. The cost for Apple Care+ breaks down to $13.49/month with their loss and theft coverage, and VMP is $17/month. Apple Care+ has a $29 deductible for a screen repair, and VMP is $0 for a screen repair. Those seem to be the main differences from what I can see comparing the two options.

The AppleCare has two different options. A two year and a monthly until cancel. The two year gives you the option to do monthly after the two years are up (essentially you are paying a discount rate for your first two years up front)

I was able to pay for my AppleCare+ with theft and loss on a per month basis until I cancel it. It’s $14.04 per month and I think it’s a very good deal.

Let me tell you a little story- 3 years ago, I dropped my iPhone 11 into a water puddle. The screen died completely, though it still worked using Siri. Asurion said they’d replace it, but I first had to erase it. I tried to remotely access it to erase it. No go. Called Verizon. They told me to contact Apple. Contacted Apple, and even Apple told me they couldn’t remotely access it. I had no computer. Asurion basically told me tough break. Called Verizon, and they said tough break (pound sand, basically). 5+ years of paying for Verizon insurance. First claim ever……failed to protect my phone. So, I now tell both of them to pound sand, and use AppleCare. Btw, it’s cheaper, and from what I hear, much better at making sure your claim is covered.

You don’t have to actually wipe the phone but you do have to turn off Find My iPhone. Which you can do by logging into your Apple account from a computer. Not simple but definitely possible.

How did they fail to protect your phone if they offered to replace it? It seems like you failed to make sure your phone was backed-up before blacking out that way when you get the new phone you can restore all your data. Insurance covers your PHONE, not the data.

Is the only difference that Verizon’s converge only protects against glass breakage? But apple protects all damage and theft?

There are two levels of AppleCare+. The first plan (AppleCare +) does not include theft and loss coverage, and screen replace has a fee as well as theft and loss fee.
the higher level plan (AppleCare+ Theft and Loss), I believe has no fee for screen and theft and loss.

Total Mobile Protection from Verizon, will offer $0 unlimited cracked screen repairs and also $0 back glass repairs. No deductibles and unlimited number of claims. Apple charges $29 each side so $58 vs $0. That’s a good perk over Apple Care+

I have had insurance through Verizon for at least 15 years now "been with Verizon since they was bell Atlantic"..... Any way, never had a problem. The coverage has changed over the years $10 to $30 screen replacement and I think it was $50 for a list phone when I had to use it years back. Both Verizon/assuron and apple care are both good. Can't go wrong with either. But the Verizon seems cheaper if you want theft, loss and water damage coverage. Moral of the story, make sure you have insurance on the expensive thing you use everyday.
