Cannot receive verification code SMS or one time password texts (OTP)

I recently ported my number from AT&T to Verizon.  The port was done in  a store, and I was able to receive standard calls and texts to my number upon port completion.

However, I am not receiving any  OTP / verifications texts from apps like Amazon, Facebook etc. I reset my network settings and my phone, and this still doesn't work. None of the OTP messages, regardless of the company sending them, are coming through.

This is a major issue and very frustrating as I now cannot access services that require text verification / OTP for login. This includes work apps that I need to use ASAP.

Can someone please assist?

Thanks.

Yogos21 We are sorry to read about the issue with getting verification texts. Are you having issues with any other service such as calls or data? ~Peter

Calls and data work fine. The main issue is that texts sent  via short codes (usually 2FA verification texts) are not coming through (e.g. Amazon, Venmo, Starbucks, banking apps etc.) and as a result I can’t access these services that sent verification via short code SMS. This is a major problem for me

Short codes from some companies started to come through, but the majority are still not working. For example, Amazon. I called Amazon and they confirmed that they are sending me short codes to the right number. This is a Verizon carrier issue that started as soon as I ported my number from ATT to Verizon.

Please advise.

Thanks for reaching out about not receiving text, specifically short codes from some businesses.  This is a necessity for access to our personal accounts with our mobile devices these days.  You mentioned porting your number recently.  When did that occur?  We want to make sure the port is 100% complete.  Also are your services with Verizon pre- or postpaid?

I ported my number 4 days ago and I am on a post-paid plan. The port was successful. I contacted my previous carrier (AT&T) they also confirmed the port went through.

I am receiving some, but not all, short code texts. As a result, I am currently locked out of several critical services that require short code verification.

I called Verizon about this a few days ago and wasn’t able to get help. The rep confirmed the post was completed but didn’t know why some short codes aren’t working.

I need to speak with a senior tech  / network engineer about this please who can properly diagnose the issue. Can you message me about this or let me know a direct contact I can call? Your regular customer service line isn’t of much help

This is urgent, so please advise

Thanks.

Here is a YouTube video link just posted 3 weeks ago for fixing this problem on iPhones.  The really useful information seems to start about 3 minutes in, but the initial troubleshooting steps may be helpful for some.

We don't want you to miss out on any important messages. Could you tell us if this is happening with a specific number sending the messages? When did this start?

Do you have some kind of spam blocking app installed?  Maybe you need to adjust the settings on that, as I know Google Messages was doing something with my phone about trying to block some 2FA texts and I don't remember what I clicked on, but I had to tell it that those texts weren't spam.

Another thing you could try is turning off spam protection on your phone.  I've got a Samsung phone, not sure if this is an Android thing or it is only with Samsung phones, but for me, opening up the phone function, then tapping the 3 dots, then Settings.  In there are options to turn off caller ID and spam protection, plus under Block Numbers, are more options to adjust for screening spam.

Couldn't update my earlier message to add this, but out of curiosity, I did a search on YouTube for "fix not getting 2FA texts" and quite a lot of videos come up.  There was one from someone named Trevor who demonstrated assorted things to adjust on iPhones which I thought was pretty useful, and it helped a lot of people based upon the comments.  There are other videos up to fix not being able to get into specific apps, so try looking there.  Hope this helps someone.

Hey there, I feel your frustration, and that's definitely a concerning situation. It's crucial to have reliable access to OTPs for various services. Since you've already taken some steps like resetting network settings and your phone, the issue might be specific to the porting process.

I'd recommend reaching out to both Verizon and your previous carrier (AT&T) to ensure there are no lingering issues related to the port. Sometimes, there might be delays or hiccups in the process that could affect text message delivery.

Additionally, check if there are any specific settings on your Verizon account that might be affecting OTP messages. Customer support for your carrier is usually the best point of contact for these types of issues. They can investigate and, if needed, escalate the matter to their technical team.

I hope you get this sorted out quickly so you can regain access to your essential services. If anyone else has faced a similar issue and found a solution, feel free to share your experiences!
