How to Verify my iphone 4s is already international unlocked?

Well I have a few questions...

I'm from Taiwan and I have a Verizon iphone 4S.

I have to go back twice a year so that I called Verizon customer service to unlock my SIM slot for international SIM card.

They asked me for my information and the MEID something of the phone and I was told the phone is already unlocked...

So I tried to put my SIM card from a Taiwan carrier in, few seconds later, it shows "Activation Required"...So I follow the step and connect it to the WIFI...and it says "SIM is not Valid".

I called them again the guy told me that they already sent the note to apple and apple replied as approved. Says when I travel abroad, put the SIM card in and the phone will start unlocking itself..

I'm really confused about that, one of my friends did unlocked her iphone through the same way a month ago, when she put her foreign SIM card in and it will activate instead of saying "SIM is not Valid".

So how can I make sure that my phone is internationally unlocked...? I really dont want to be told my phone was not unlocked when I travel abroad...

To my understanding you still have to have Verizon service while traveling abroad. I'm not an expert but that's what everyone has been told around here

zhansc, do you currently have Verizon service? As Gina7239 posted, you can only use a Verizon device internationally if you have Verizon service. If you do have Verizon service, you can always check with our Global Services department at

(800)711-8300.

I am a longtime Verizon customer. I called to let Verizon know that I would be in Italy for three months and asked that my iPhone 4s be unlocked and then put on vacation for 90 days. When I got to Italy and bought a TIM sim card, I found out that the phone was not unlocked as the Verizon representative told me they had done. I wasted over $30.00 on a call to Verizon trying to get the phone unlocked. They hung up on me while I was waiting to be transferred to tech support. I do not want to waste any more money calling Verizon. I tried live chat, but that did not work. I have not been able to find any way to contact Verizon by email. There is no toll free number to call for help and for an international phone company, that really is disappointing. If I put my Verizon sim card back in the phone and take it off of vacation, will I be able to have thee phone unlocked? What do I have to do to get my phone unlocked? I can give you my phone number and device number if you could help me. Please let me know.

I already wasted $30.00 calling Verizon without getting the phone unlocked. I won’t make any more calls. If I cannot unlock my phone by email I will consider changing to AT&T with a new phone.
