Weak iPhone X reception.

my iPhone X is weaker than my old iPhone 5.  Since switching to the X I often need to go outside to keep phone conversations connected. Even outside it’s distorted and weak. I swapped out the first X for a new one, same issue. when I put my sim card in my old 5 it works like a charm. Anyone else have this problem? What is going on?

I wonder if you should go to a corporate store and try a new SIM card. Then perform a reset network settings.

While there, download OpenSignal. See if they will download OpenSignal on one of their iPhoneX on display.

Compare signal strength of both phones.

It's probable, your iPhone5 was using a different band of frequencies to hit the tower than the new device.

Going to a corporate store makes a lot of sense.

Thanks.

Very strange. I assume you have HD Voice turned on but I would suggest turning it off to see if there is any difference and then back on again.

I went to the Corporate Store. I was getting four bars in the store!

I explained my situation, I was given a new sim, they turned off advanced voice (?) and checked all settings. They assured me all was well.

My my first try at home, fail!

I guess I’ll go back to my 5.

I’m in zip area 12550. I’m not sure if others are having trouble. No one in my family is, all iPhone 6 and 7 users.

I have ordered a Pixle 2. The idea of a work around on a $1K+ phone is not appealing.

I hope that does it for you. If others in your family with iPhone6 and 7s are not having issues, then I wouldn't be surprised if your iPhoneX had an antenna problem or modem problem.

People think these are commodity devices, coming off an assembly line, each one exactly alike. I think these are assembled by people, in different locations, with different lot / revision sub-assemblies. I bet they are not all created equal.

Please let us know if the Pixel 2 works more reliably for you.

Thanks for the well wishes.

Just for the record. I tried two Xs and had the same problem with each.

I switched back to my old 5 while I wait for the Pixel. It’s seems to be working fine.

If the Pixel gives me hard time I’m going to skip upgrading and stick with the 5 which has been a great phone.

If one Googles the iPhone X, others appear to have signal strength problems.

Having same issues — home, work, any airport, anytime traveling. Verizon support is completely useless, they will keep you running in circles forever and do nothing. I’ve given them my zip, locations, etc and they do NOTHING. They are USELESS. Do yourself a favor and switch to AT&T. You are paying too much money to deal with this never ending garbage.

ScottOinNY,

We definitely don't want you to change carriers is a pursuit of signal improvement, as there is so much uncertainty with going to a completely new service. I want to pull out all stops to see that this is addressed. You mentioned several steps you've completed regarding looking into the local area. What has been attempted to try to diagnose any issues that could be coming from the device? Have you attempted replacing the SIM or device?

I am having reception issues with my iPhone X as well. But my issues are with the data side. If I am outside a building in the middle of the city, my internet works great. If I go into a building it is very spotty if not totally unusable and the whole time it will show 2 or 3 bars of service. I wonder if AT&T has the same issues?  I’ve been with Verizon for over 13 years. 😕

We appreciate that you have reached out to us JHowellNY, and we never want to hear that you are having issues with your data. We only want to provide a great wireless experience for you. We treasure your loyalty, and we would never want you to leave our family. We cannot guarantee service indoors, that being said, we want to do everything we can to help. Do you know other Verizon users with this same issue in this area? Does this always happen indoors for you or only certain buildings?

I have asked others that I have been right next to me and have Verizon as a carrier and they aren’t having the same connectivity issues that I am having. It happened again to me today. I was in a local Home Depot.  I had 3 bars of service, but my data connection would not work. I tried to go into Airplane Mode and back out, thinking that might reset the connection, but it didn’t do anything.

I have the same problem. My phone signal and data are terrIble. Sometimes I have 1 or 2 bars other times I have 4 bars but the data does not work. I was in the Jacksonville airport and I couldn't even pull up my boarding pass. Luckily I also have a T-Mobile phone and it pulled up the boarding pass immediately. To be clear, I travel a lot, and this is happening in several states and cities. The only places it works perfectly so far are DC and NY.

I upgraded to the IPhone XS around 6 months or so ago. I noticed my Bluetooth had much less range. I dropped calls where I had not dropped  calls in years. Had to walk outside to talk on the phone.  WiFi range was less. Speed tests were worse on my Verizon service than a 4 or 5 year old iPhone.
I finally knew it was an issue and Verizon swapped my SIM card and changed some settings. No difference.
Verizon sent me a new XS. No difference.
I researched online and it appears a lot of people have had antennae/reception issues with the “X” phones. It also appears it is because of the Intel vs Qualcomm hardware.

Im trying to figure out whether to go back to an IPhone 8 or what to do. I use my phone as a small business owner and almost never use a computer for my paperwork.

Im perplexed at this issue.

THOMASss

We don't want this to be an ongoing problem on that device. Are you having this distorted sound issue on your calls in a specific place or everywhere that you go? Does this happen on certain calls or all calls?

I havent havent had the phone long, so I didnt use it all that much. It is clearly a problem at home. At least half my calls required going outside to be heard. Even outside the calls were not always clear.

The other area I had problems was at work. I work in a single story building. I would have to go to the front door to make a good connection.

I didn’t notice the problem elsewhere but I make the vast majority of calls from home, work or outside.

If I only had the problem at one location I’d try to consider local issues. But it fails at home and work so I’m doing the unthinkable. I’m going Android.
