What Is The Difference Between Green And Blue Message Bubbles?

Should I be getting all message thru imessage? I don't. And. why are some messages green rather than blue? How do I know if I am blocked?

Green means it's not to an Apple device. Blue is apple. Blocked you may or may not get a message back.
