What does General have for cellular data? I can't find any details about it. https://matrix.zimage.com/_matrix/media/v3/download/ross154.net/roAKRVmNNgazozzMtlZbtiNa/IMG_3458.PNG for a screen shot/capture from my 12 mini's iOS v17.4.
Thank you for reading and hopefully answering soon.
Still no answers? I still see this problem since my colony uses the cheaper old 4 GB plan.
Ant, can you clarify for us, are you looking to understand the data usage that is showing for "General" within your device? While we are unable to access any specific data usage information for your device, we would recommend accessing Settings>General and then reviewing any possible features that are enabled there that could utilize data.

Yes, I want to know what General is.
General is an option available within Settings of your iPhone device. There are a number of different options that are housed under "General" within your device Settings. To review all of the options that are available within this section of your device, please go to Settings>General from your device to see the additional options that are listed under "General". Please let us know if you have any additional questions after reviewing this information in your device.

Which of these general settings use cellular though? I already disabled its AirDrop and software update. Did I miss anything else in there?
Ant, we want to make sure that you know exactly where that data use is coming from. There's a couple of threads in the Apple forums about this same issue, and the consensus seems to be that "Genera" under data use are system services on your phone. Please try going to Settings > Cellular or Settings > Mobile Data and look under "System Services" for a breakdown of data being used.
Here's a link to a similar thread in the Apple forums: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8470751?sortBy=best

Thanks for getting back to us, unfortunately, we're not able to pinpoint data usage any further than the information we have been able to provide earlier. Aside from apps, how else are you using your phone?

@Ant , I'm not sure if CS can view your outside link. Have seen posts from assorted agents saying they couldn't view images, links, etc. for whatever reason. I could open your link just fine, but am an Android user not all that conversant with the iPhone interface.
Many apps run in the background constantly, so will continue to pull data even if the phone isn't being used or you don't have the app open. The OS is probably also regularly checking for software updates, and if it's a Verizon phone, the carrier software is running stuff in the background too looking for updates, or security checks. Short of upgrading your service plan to something with more data or deleting/disabling even more apps, the only other thing I can think of is to use Wi-Fi as often as possible.

Yeah, I just need to figure out what is using so much for cellular data's General. For now, I have to turn off cellular data when I am not using it, but that's hard when I am not on wifi when I am out.
Thanks for those details, Ant. If not on WiFi, you will be using data when using these services. Are you resetting your data monitoring monthly as well? I understand you are concerned about your usage and you mentioned you are using a grandfathered 4GB plan. Are you using up or exceeding your allowance every month? Have we had the chance to review other plan possibilities?

I reset my cell data stats daily before I sleep since I monitor at least once a day. I haven't gone over my cap yet, but I am trying to avoid that.

Is it possible that the data resetting is making something in the Apple iOS run something with regenerating some files and hence using cellular data? Then it just all goes into the catch-all General tab. Maybe if you turn on airplane mode when the phone isn't being used, it would help. Just speculating here...
I have to turn off cellular data to prevent this, but the problem I need to use it when out without wifi.
Ant, please let us know if you'd like for us to review your account for the best plan.

Thanks. I will do that later on.
