Auto Payment Policy

Verizon's policy to deny a discount for customers who do not have traditional banking is discriminatory. Many senior citizens and disabled people who access their Social Security benefit through the Direct Express program do not use traditional banks. Direct Express does not allow ACH payments. Other lower income people who use prepaid cards because they do not have a bank are also denied the convenience and savings related to automatic payments.

My personal situation is that I do not use my banking information online for payments because what is not "out there" is less likely to be compromised. I understand that I have made a choice, but for many, there is no choice if they do not have a traditional bank.

I understand there is a cost associated with processing electronic payments from debit cards. I could understand if they adjusted the discount to reflect these costs, but to deny access to the convenience and savings of autopayment based upon whether they have a traditional bank is unfair and it's causing me to look elsewhere after years with Verizon.
