Billing issue

My dad passed away at the end of March. As a result, after 8 years with Verizon, I forgot to pay the bill in time in the middle of all the chaos. When I remembered, I sent the payment in the middle of April, so was about two weeks late. On the same day the payment was credited to the account, the account got suspended! We called them and told them we have paid and the service was restored. To our surprise, we got charged a $50 “restoration fee”! I called last week and explained the situation. We got another email notification today that our account will be suspended now because the restoration fee is overdue!!! Can someone explain to me why a company should even suspend an account after 2-3 weeks of the due date, especially if customers are going through a challenging time?? Why our account got suspended on the day the payment was received?? How in the world you cannot give a one time courtesy credit in rare situations like this?? And now threatening us again with another suspension??

We're truly very sorry for your loss, LRx. We understand that life's challenges can sometimes make it difficult to keep up with payments.
If you need additional time to pay your bill, we offer flexible payment options to help you stay connected. For anyone facing a similar issue now, we recommend reviewing this link for more details around our payment arrangement options: https://www.verizon.com/support/promise-to-pay-faqs/
To clarify, when service is interrupted by Financial Services, service can only be restored when a payment for the full past due amount is received. There is a $20.00/line reconnection fee billed to the account when services are temporarily interrupted by Financial Services (see "My service was shut off because I didn't pay my bill. Will my service be restored after I make a payment arrangement?" under the About tab here): https://www.verizon.com/support/promise-to-pay-faqs/

I'm sorry to hear of your loss.
If your service got shut off for nonpayment, unfortunately, there are charges to reconnect service after the bill is paid. IMO it's not fair to those who are struggling financially or otherwise going through a hard time, but sadly getting charged late fees for overdue bills isn't unique to Verizon.
I'm not a Verizon employee, just another customer trying to help.
