My wife and I have been loyal customers for many years. We rarely go over 3 GB of data per month, so we do not have the Unlimited Data plan. Yesterday at 9:17am Hawaii time, we were at 2.74GB. At 9:18am, we were at 3GB and charged $15. At 9:38am, we were at 9.9 GB and charged $105. How could this happen? When I'm at home, I connect to my home internet. At work I connect to my work internet. After 30 minutes on the phone with customer service (no help - she just kept pushing me to purchase an Unlimited Data plan), I went to the Verizon store and learned that between 9:17 and 9:38am (while I am driving to work) many of my Apps updated automatically, using all of this data while I am not connected to the internet. The employee at the store said there is no way to reverse the charges since the "damage was done and the data had been used." He advised I switch off "Update Apps Automatically" which I didn't know was turned on. So now I am out $105 because my phone decided to update while I wasn't connected to internet. This does not inspire me to get an Unlimited Plan. It provokes me to change my phone service.
